The evolution of the Lincoln Continental (including concept cars). Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Keep in mind that this is NOT based on separate generations. Each photo represents the year they made a significant design alteration, but didn’t necessarily change generations. There were a lot of Lincoln Continental variations, especially in the 70s. So, I included what I could, and what I felt was the most general.

I’m sorry but the bad paint flop on the front door of that green hardtop is hurting my eyes. Dude needs to ask for a refund of he paid money for that repaint.

Had a $500 ‘78 Town Car in London 25yrs ago. Hilariously thirsty and unable to easily navigate narrow streets in my neighbourhood. I sometimes had to stand on the front bumper to scout for any oncoming traffic near bends as no way could another car inch past us with parked cars either side.

An elderly lady in a Japanese shitbox defied logic by entering just such a street as I was clearly able to be seen from 400yds filling up 70% of available street width. We ended up almost nose to nose. I got out of the Lincoln and politely explained why she should back up 20ft to let me pass. And told her that she clearly saw me coming before she entered the point of no return.

I gave her 2 polite warnings. She refused to budge.

I reversed 10ft then soared past her, taking her driver side mirror with me. Eat my land yacht, you silly cow. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Drove it to Scotland once to show some visiting buddies from back home in NZ a damn good time. You know that old gas-guzzler joke about watching the fuel gauge drop? This was literally clearly visible as we floated up the M1. The fuel bill for that trip was insane. You pay to play.

Thank you for that post. Brought back many good memories. I especially like the slab side Lincolns.

It’s like how animals keep ending up evolving into crabs. Cars keep evolving into Toyota Camrys

American car companies are facing real challenges to be attractive to consumers.

  7. My Uncle Bob bought a brand new white 1957 Continental. I will never forget it. He was an LA fire chief and could afford it. It was beautiful and badass.

  8. I just bought a 78 Lincoln Continental Mark V Diamond jubilee edition in diamond blue. Bought it last week. I just bought some new wheels and tires for it too for this sunday. A couple of days after buying it I had someone offer me 15k for it

Lincoln completely rebrands itself every 5-10 years. It’s just amazing.

I can’t understand the love for the first Continental. The styling looks like it was done by 3 people not on speaking terms. There’s no connection between the ends, fenders that faded into the doors would help. And underneath it’s buggy springs and a flat head. In an age where the cheapest Chevrolet had IFS and OHV.

#2 may be the prettiest car I’ve seen for a while.
