Because it’s made by Chinese state-owned Changan Auto.

I’m not up on Chinese safety laws, but does a car built for that market meet US and EU safety requirements? Crumple zones? Airbags? Backup cameras? Collision avoidance?

If not, it seems silly to whine about “why can’t we have cheap EVs like China?” I mean, you can, you just have to buy one of those 3-wheeled vehicles that is classed as a motorcycle so it doesn’t have to have the safety stuff. But people don’t actually want those.

  3. Arata looks like Acura ZDX and Nissan Ariya had a baby

  4. Not just Mazda but also other companies: it’s fine to release EVs in China as it’s the hottest market for them right now, but dammit release them in other territories too! The lack of releases is making “but EVs don’t sell here” into a self-fulfilling prophecy

Mazda/Toyota/Honda – “We can squeeze ICE profits from US customers with some advertising and EV FUD.”

Ah… so this is a Chinese car… I wondered how Mazda could pull off an EV…
