Because, frankly, they’re crap. Not much faster than their normal counterparts, usually equipped with pathetic low compression cylinder heads, cheap materials, and all sorts of other quirks. However, I do like them, a lot.
BaconNPotatoes
Because of the greatness that came before them.
Not much is cooler than a malaise era car that’s been rebuilt/modified so it’s actually fast.
celtbygod
It was a very interesting time and car guys really worked at breathing life into those factory marshmallows. The ads were sad, it was as if the manufacturers knew they were selling crappy performance.
resto4406
because they made sub 150hp. i do like the super coupes and the kit cars though
Excellent-Will3165
It is not that the platform was bad, just the lack performance from the factory.. And maybe the lack engineering on the part of the factory.. The EPA didn’t just drop the shoe on them…
complexpug
Because my cat has more bhp & could put pull any of them 😅
Some look cool but don’t make up for the lack of go
flatblackNred
That 80 Malibu is very popular with drag racing but you have to do a lot to them. They look super cool. The Mopar cars just weren’t very attractive then. Just my opinion 🤷

Because there was no muscle in those cars from the factory. The styling wasn’t too bad in some cases, but they were just dogs. I don’t think the word “hate” really applies though. Not for me anyway.

Having grown up in the muscle car era it was quite a disappointment to see how pollution control changes in designs overtook the time after 1970. More disturbing were the marketing spin they tried to lay on us telling about how much better we would be with the new (shitty) tech. We didn’t know how good we had it until we were thrust into this crappy technology cars that were underpowered, had poor gas mileage and had a maze of hoses, wires, pipes and sensors that never seemed to run right And made working on the cars much more difficult. The whole experience went to shit but the prices remained the same or higher. It was the start of my hatred for gm and domestic cars in general.

In order to be a muscle car, you gotta have muscle.
NewHumbug
Reminds me of my Dodge Aspen lol. The rear window louvres made it look fast lol
MusclecarYearbook
Because they ugly!
Plus, nothing you’ve shown resembles a stock Malaise-era muscle car.
discussatron
Because they’re garbage.
ramanw150
Probably because they live in a area where they can’t modify them to be awesome
WASRenjoyer
They’re blue balled muscle cars.
Big block V8s with like 200 hp.
That’s not to say you can’t make them high compression again, but a stock malaise era muscle car is just disappointing performance-wise.
insanecorgiposse
Pigs in lipstick are still pigs.
Severe-Size2615
Idk a friend of mine has a 454 swapped 75 nova. It’s an awesome car
thejadedcitizen
Those of us that lived through the heyday of muscle cars were horrified by what came after.
03zx3
Because they had a decidedly awful lack of muscle.
Plus, the smog pumps and hundreds of miles of vacuum hoses made them a pain in the ass.
However, the Malaise era is when america learned how to make cars corner, since we could no longer rely on straight line performance.
A Cobra II can’t punch its way through a paper sack, but it will run rings around any Mustang before it when it comes to handling. A RAIII Trans Am from 1970 is quite a bit faster than a Turbo TA from 1980, but the Turbo could have the WS6 package which came with big sway bars, stiffer springs, and 4 wheel disc brakes and 15×8 wheels which would easily out corner the earlier one.
Ok-Suggestion-9882
All show no go
Jimger_1983
Corvettes from this era, Camaros, and Firebird/Trans Am’s we’re downright eye candy
Mysterious-Dealer649
If you have to ask you obviously weren’t around to know what kinda trash American car companies were putting out from around 73-87
