I am looking into buying a classic muscle car for weekend trips. My dreamcars always were 1970ish style muscle cars (and 90s ferraris , but those are outside my budget). And my eye was caught on the C3 and Mustangs. Since my knowledge on cars isn’t vast to say the least, I would like your opinion about the matter, which one would you pick and what year/spec should i go for?

The mustang will be MUCH cheaper to own. Not cheap, but cheaper.
Ones metal the other fiberglass… that’s something to consider.
C3 corvettes do not age well (most). The Mustang will and it is timeless. You should also sit in a C3, sight picture and seating ergonomics are not for every body type. Any 65-70 fastback Mustang would be desireable if the condition and price is right.
I believe the C3 is one of the most beautiful car designs ever. I wouldn’t drive one though. I agree the mustang is a better choice.
This is a borderline absurd comment, and I’m preparing myself for the well deserved downvotes, but here’s my opinion:
Corvette people are Corvette people. And they know they are Corvette people. They have Corvette bath towels, Corvette posters in their garage, Corvette shot glasses, “Corvette Parking Only” signs for their driveway.
The fact that you have to ask if you should get a Corvette, or…. means that you are probably not a Corvette person.
Which is fine, the Mustang is an icon for a reason, they are still relatively inexpensive to purchase, Ford manufactured approximately One Billion Mustangs, and the aftermarket scene for Mustangs is second to none.
Hell, maybe you get that Corvette and you end up loving it, fantastic! But, Corvette owners just seem to have a level of passion and dedication that many other classic car brands just don’t generate.
I would get the Mustang.
But, again, that’s just me and I might be wrong.
Personally I would pick the mustang because all the plastic bumpers I’ve seen lately are faded and don’t match the body color. Now if we were talking about chrome bumpers on the vette, no contest there. The corvettes are much more fun.
I have a 69 C3. It’s awesome!! Pretty easy to work on. Zip corvette has every part you need
Mustang
Whatever you can find cheaper that runs perfectly/better.
If you’re going to need luggage room for road trips take that into consideration. Its pretty scarce ina Vette.
Of those two in particular, I would choose the Mustang, even though I generally don’t prefer Ford products over General Motors.
You will know the right one for you when you find it.😊
Vette
I love Corvettes, but those fastback Mustangs are sweet. It’s the perfect road trip car for the pleasant weather months.
If it was between the two you pictured (I know, illustration only) it would be the Mustang. And I’m a Corvette guy. Now had it been an early C3 like 68-72 with a high hp motor or even an ls swap that would be a tougher decision.
Like others say. Go sit in a few to see what fits you. Go to some cruise ins and talk to the owners. But enjoy the hunt. I know we are all anxious to get one and drive, but take your time, do your research.
Mustang all day. It’s worth more.
Pretty sure no C3s came with a targa top, they were all t tops.
They are different cars built for and good at different things.
you need to go drive them and buy
based on that, not Internet advice.
Are you looking for a beautiful highway cruiser? C3 Corvette.
Running light to light? Mustang
Buying something for looks and not actually to drive? Doesn’t matter.
If you’re going to drive it often, I would pick the one that’s been driven often, cars don’t do well when they sit and then start getting driven daily.
Mustang has a back seat! 😉
Mustang, I have nothing against the corvette, I just think the mustang is more proportional in shape and can safely say it is the more comfortable of the 2 pictured
I personally love the ‘stang. It has been my choice of car for 50+ years now.
Always been a Mustang fan, so I’ll always choose a classic Mustang over any other classic car.
Never liked the C3, go for the Mustang.
I don’t think I would physically fit in a C3, as much as I love the look
Chevy c3 Targa all the way
Mustang
Always gonna be the ‘vette for me.
I like both cars and most of their models throughout their history. But I don’t like any vehicle with a targa top, they’re so ugly. I’d go for the Ford.
You can larp as Cyrus from Trailer Park Boys if you get the Corvette
Just to clarify, the C3 Vette has t-tops, not a targa top. Probably not a big deal, but in case you wanted a targa.
Normally, a Chevy guy. However, in this case, Mustang.
Vette, but have a mechanic on call.
Mustang.
Don’t be a dick Cyrus
C3s are gorgeous. That one is terrible.
Stick with the Mustang.
Vette
Always c3.
Best looking car ever made.
That’s too tough a call to make. Keep an eye on what’s available and go for it. If you find something for the right price and condition, get it. Whatever you get though, be ready to do a lot of wrenching. A 50+ year old car even in perfect shape will need attention.
Test drive both (bring a friend who knows classic cars) and see which one you like more.
I love both. I’ve owned a 66, 65 and 69 Mustang as a teenager ad early 20’s. Wife wrecked my 69 Grande Coupe 😩. Bought my first Corvette at 28 (a 1982). Sold it in 91 due to growing family. Bought my current 94 Vette in 2011. Retired last year and currently in a bumper to bumper restoration of my C4. Love the thing and will never sell it. I hope to buy a restored 1969 Mustang Mach 1 (Boss 302 or 428 CJ) in Red/Black to put in garage next to my Vette (Black on Black). Drive the wheels off both (sunny days only 😊).
Shelby GT 500
Get the vette, a leather jacket, and a pistol with the safety always off
Mustang. C3s after ‘73 or so are dogs.
I’m a Corvette guy, but I would get the Mustang. Now if the Corvette were the same year as the Mustang, I would go for the vette. Apples and oranges something something
The mustang.
If the only choice of corvette was the C3 I’d do the Mustang (not a Mustang II lol) instantly.
If you are 60+ and a casual car guy who just wants to fit in, get the vette.
If you are 40+ and a casual car guy who just wants to fit in, fang it in the stang
If you are any age bracket, love all sorts of cars, are passionate about the local car scene, and want a car because it triggers memories and/or happiness. Get what you want, not what reddit tells you.
IMHO the mustang will always be the cooler car, but the mustang and corvette are on the same level in my books. They are everywhere, attract the same people and there are always other cooler cars out there. All of which is subjective to the individual, obviously.
