Fake news. Nobody buys Tesla anymore because Elon bad. We’re all driving around in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 which is the actual best seller.

  2. Already bought one 🙂 I like the whole not having to go to service at all yet almost 10 months in

  3. Specialist-Routine86

No surprise there, exchanged my RAV4 for a Model Y, basically the same price for LE. I’ve seen so many Model Ys in Phoenix/Scottsdale, its crazy.

This is great news for electric cars in the US. It shows that the Model Y is starting to achieve broader popularity beyond the original stronghold of California, where it might as well be the official car of the state.

Assuming this happens, and Model Y humbles all ICE vehicles in the US, what do we think will be the second EV model to sell in greater numbers than all ICE vehicles?

    Please add more supercharges.

An article from DriveTeslaCanada. Didn’t know sites like this exist.

  7. raistlin65

So a Canadian Tesla site tells us this, reporting on what a little known financial blog says.

I wait for better reporting before repeating this.

Vague article with some hopium baked in. Tesla sales are declining. Maybe it happens but I don’t think so

  9. midnightdiabetic

Too bad the founder is questionable and the insurance is astronomical or I’d have one too! Luckily my EV6 is awesome

Haters gonna hate. Gnashing of teeth and copium for the win. 😆

Just from personal experience – Most people I know who were/are in the market for their first EV say they hate Musk and are actively avoiding Tesla… but subsequently test drive and purchased one anyway.

There’s simply no denying that the Model Y and 3 offer the best ‘gateway’ EV experience for the money.

That said – With competitively priced, solid, options coming out every year? I do think they will need to make significant changes to how they do things or they’ll be in big trouble.

They check all the right boxes for those who are transitioning over. Easy buying experience, great software, good charging network, etc. Essentially everything that frustrates buyers looking at traditional automakers.

But the satisfaction in those areas fade quickly when you realize the boxes left unchecked, the ones traditional automakers do right, are more important in the long run when it comes to ownership.

When you need to get ahold of a human at Tesla but cant or when you try to schedule service only to find out it’s going to be 7+ weeks before it can be looked at? You quickly forget about how great the app is or how clean the car’s UI is.

  12. Remember when people thought Tesla couldn’ve even build a car? haha

  13. skellener

Sure wish they would produce a small hatchback.

  14. teepee107

I can’t imagine buying a car that doesn’t have the processing power of a Tesla and the associated supercomputers connected to the cars. No other car of any variety is remotely close lol

People probably like the car the moment they use the touchscreen and it isn’t laggy as fuck

As of July, the F150 was at 340,000 sold in the US while the Y was at 200,000 behind the Rav4 and the Silverado. I seriously doubt in 2 months it doubled its sales in the US in order to pass the F150.

Hell, going off Tesla’s own earnings report they have only sold 800,000 model 3/y (because tesla has to fudge numbers wherever it can) globally. Even if 100% of that was model Y’s, they claim 250,000 model y’s were sold in China and 160,000 in Europe, meaning there is zero chance it is outselling the F150

Not to knock on the accomplishment, but the flip side is that this was accomplished with a continuous stream of incentives, both from Tesla and the Government.

At one point, the My was a lot more expensive than my GV70, now, it’s a bit cheaper. Would I have traded up for a MY? Hard no. Would I now trade down to a MY with current incentives, I could be convinced. Now, if I was comparing a CRV or RAV4 with the MY (with all the incentives available to make it about the same price), I would definitely go with a MY at that point.

  17. HeftyIncident7003

Does this make the model y the Escort of EVs?

  18. ElCostosHombre

All those articles about Tesla losing sales and falling off just for them to create the best selling vehicle in the US… goes to show that being chronically online doesn’t change anything about the real world

  19. mdebreyne

I question the reliability of the data. According to this 2024Q2 report (https://www.motor1.com/features/716773/best-selling-cars-2024/), YTD in July, F-150 had sold 3X more volume – I’m skeptical MY has managed to make that up let alone surpass it

Yeah because it’s an electric Nissan Altima

  21. M0therN4ture

Elons erratic behavior really damaged the image I’ve had of Tesla. However, I believe that the model Y may indeed be a great car, if, manufactured with care and dedication.

  22. Speculawyer

It’s a very good car and it is worthy of it.

But given Musk’s heel turn into becoming a Groyper weirdo, I am surprised that it is selling that well.

But I guess the referral discount, the lowered prices, the low interest rate financing, the ability to transfer FSD for some, etc is getting people on board

  23. I thought EVs were dying and Tesla sales were plummeting. This place is so funny

  24. ooofest

I found it very uncomfortable (interior and suspension) and my neck hurt from constantly looking for driving status on a display to my right – instead of straight ahead or slightly downwards. Steering felt dead and the car reverberated in the low 40MPH range, which I read is not uncommon. There were more issues, like the lack of reasonable, physical controls to keep my eyes off the display for common needs, but there’s also the fact that I don’t want to support a neo-Nazi sympathizer if I can avoid it going forward.

I’m glad to see more EVs on the road, but Teslas are a badge of Musk in my view.

  25. dontbeslo

No idea why people still choose to pay Model Y money for an outdated, tired, and utterly mind-numbing RAV4. So glad to see the MY take market share
