This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, plug-in hybrid compact SUV. The new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has more power, a larger battery and improved range compared to the outgoing model. It has a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle gas engine with a twin motor PHEV system. The twin-motor AWD powertrain consists of a gasoline engine and front electric motor driving the front wheels and a standalone rear-mounted motor driving the rear axle.It has a combined 248 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. It has a 20-kWh battery, gets 61 km/38 miles of EV range and allows for up to 687 km/420 miles of combined electric-gas range on a single charge and a tank of fuel. There are plenty of drive modes to choose from, Normal, Eco or Power and four traction options, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow and Mud. There are four powertrain settings, Normal which is hybrid mode, EV, pure electric driving, Save, keep your range for later and Charge, use the gas engine to charge the battery. There is also a one pedal drive button, you will still have to brake, the vehicle doesn’t come to a complete stop. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV gets a combined 3.6Le/100 km, 64 MPGe. With the battery depleted, a combined 9L/100 km, 26 MPG. That’s 9.2L/100 km, 25 MPG city and 8.7L/100 km, 27 MPG highway. The Mitsuibishi Outlander comes with a 3.3 kWh onboard charger. With a Level 1 charger, it will charge from 0-100% in 16 hours, Level 2, 0-100% in 6 ½ hours and with a DC Fast Charger, 38 minutes to charge up to 80%. The new Outlander PHEV is the only non-luxury plug-in hybrid to offer fast charging. In Canada, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV starts at $46,538 CAD, LE $51,238 CAD, SEL $54,048 CAD, GT $56,348 CAD and our GT Premium test model is $57,048 CAD.
