FIRST LOOK: Honda e:Ny1 – has Honda left it TOO LATE? | Electrifying

Honda has revealed its second all-electric car for Europe – called the e:Ny1, and it is due to go on sale later this year. It’s the vehicle that will properly start the process of Honda having 30 battery-powered cars on the market globally by 2030. Although the Honda e was the brand’s first foray into all-electric motoring, the e:Ny1 is aimed at a broader audience.

Underneath, the e:Ny1 comes with a 68.8kWh battery with 256-miles of WLTP range. It’s front-wheel drive, and the drive unit, electric motor and gearbox are all bundled up in one shrink-wrapped package. It’s as compact as it can be and typically neat Honda thinking.

The drivetrain generates 201bhp and 228lb ft of torque, which, strangely, is the same as almost every other mid-sized electric SUV. Honda doesn’t quote the charging figures, but says the e:NY1 can get from 10-80% in 45 minutes on a public charger. Which, given the size of the battery, sounds like somewhere between 80-90kW DC.

Join Tom as he takes a close look around the new Honda e:Ny1. Is this the electric car you’ve been waiting for? Has Honda left it too late? Let us know in the comments below – we love to hear your views.
