Honda has announced the sixth generation of its best-selling SUV, the CR-V. It will go on sale in Europe later this year and will set new standards in design, practicality and everyday usability.
The new CR-V boasts a more muscular look with a steeper and wider grille. Honda has opted to use less chrome than its predecessor, although small chrome strips connect to the LED headlights on the sides of the grille.
Small air curtains can be seen on the sides to guide airflow around the wheels and improve aerodynamics. At the rear, the connecting bar between the taillights has been removed, giving them a more modern touch while maintaining the taillights’ distinctive shape.
In addition, the new CR-V is ten centimeters longer and four centimeters longer on the wheelbase. This increase in dimensions results in more interior space and an 18% increase in load space.
The cockpit welcomes driver and passengers with a combination of soft-touch surfaces and an array of storage compartments. The center stack features a 9-inch infotainment screen with additional climate control buttons and knobs. Technically, the CR-V features Honda’s Human Machine Interface (HMI) infotainment system and a host of new driver assistance features. It includes a 360-degree camera system that improves safety and comfort while riding.
The CR-V is available as a full hybrid or a model with plug-in hybrid drive for the first time in the European market. Both models feature a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle direct injection petrol engine that has been redesigned to improve efficiency, refinement and dynamic performance across the entire range.
Power is delivered via an E-CVT transmission, and Honda claims a top speed of 193 km/h. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available as an option.
The new Honda CR-V will hit the European market in the second half of 2023. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the base price is expected to exceed €40,000.
