KTM’s scooter plan may soon become a reality but in an electric form. A prototype of the KTM electric scooter was recently spotted on a test somewhere in Europe. From the pictures, it is clear that this electric scooter is in its early stage of development as some of the parts have been made using a 3D printer. Even though the prototype was decently camouflaged, many design traits can be easily seen. The overall styling isn’t as aggressive and sharp as the concept scooter that was showcased a few years ago. But there is plenty of KTM design language on it. Like some of the e-scooters in India, the battery pack on this KTM is also positioned below the floorboard. This helps in lowering the centre of gravity, resulting in better handling. The swingarm is all aluminium which is a typical KTM approach. There’s also one aluminium plate attached to the swingarm, which could have been used to cool the electric motor, but it isn’t visible in these pictures. Other bits that can be seen on this electric scooter are the flat single seat, disc brakes at both ends, alloy wheels, a large windscreen, and LED lights. A large digital instrument cluster is also visible. In terms of performance, this KTM is rumoured to be powered by an 8kW motor which could have been co-developed with Bajaj. The Bajaj Chetak is rumoured to use the same platform but with a smaller motor. Over the last few years, both companies have been working on a common EV platform to help the brands develop their products and benefit from economies of scale. We expect KTM to showcase the production-ready model later this year at the EICMA and an early 2025 launch. This KTM e-scooter will likely be made by Bajaj at their Chakan plant and exported worldwide.
