As per a study from IIT Kanpur, Electric vehicles are said to be more polluting than conventional(petrol/diesel) vehicles. This is because India as a country still generates 75% of its electricity by burning coal in thermal power plants.

The total GHG (greenhouse gases) emission is said to be a lot more than conventional engines, which only accounts for tailpipe emissions. Though NOX15 and PM 2.5 particles are another issue. This study also says Hybrid cars are best for the current situation. Watch the video to know more.
