“Like an artist has his studio, the ice cream man has his truck,” says Siff. “That is his studio, where he shares his trade. And there’s an enjoyment and happiness that comes with work: The more I paint, the more I feel like the ice-cream man, back at home in New York on 140th St. I feel like Gus, who everybody on our block would run after this guy and feel so happy when he would come to town.”
