Cars

Probably a great drive, but…Visually, this is one of the biggest head scratchers in recent memory for me.

  1. personally i like the old m2 way more but i know lot of people that really like the looks of the new one

  2. Meh, it’s not bad in the same way the Civic R isn’t bad, its got that “boy racer” look. The problem is, it’s way out of the price range of the age group that would like something like that. Thier focus group was probably all under 30.

honestly I like the blue one much more. I hate that massive grill on the white one.

(i’ll probably smoke both with my old beater after a couple of laps anyway, since bmw never managed to put proper brakes on their cars, ever)

  4. I mean, compared to the other M-cars of this generation, I think it sits squarely at the top. But that maybe says more about them and how awful the bunny teeth / lipstick-on-a-pig look of the M3/4 or iX M60 are, than the quality of the M2’s design

This was going to be my next car, right up until they showed what it looked like. It’s somehow even worse with the tacky aero addons. I would love an S58 but BMW doesn’t put it in any cars that I actually want to buy.

The side profile looks great for me, don’t like the colour though. The rest of the car is meh, at least it doesn’t have the awful grills.

    Car is way too heavy.

M3 and m4 kind of look good meanwhile, i got used to it. But the M2? It just looks like the lego technic set based on the old gen M2, it had such a clean esthetic.

  8. I think this new M2 is certainly the best looking current M car. The boxyness of it really gives off 80s vibes to me. Love it!

  9. Who’d have thought it looks better with stuff glued on to it, first M2 that I actually like

I like the new one. This one has a bit too much carbon-aeroitis going on, but I like the new ones. I find a lot of the time that people just like to hate what’s new. Compared to the other shit BMW is pushing out these days, this thing looks really good (Looking at you, XM).

  11. It looks like they are going after the guys who used to have body kits on their civics and somehow can now afford a BMW.

I actually really like the squared up look of the m2, but I am certainly not a fan of its weight.

To me, it’s busy looking. Almost to the level of ostentatious. Certainly would appeal to a younger buyer than say how the E30 were adorned. I’m sure it will sell well to its intended market. Like an STI, not subtle, but isn’t supposed to be.

I still like them both…. They are both fantastic autos.

  15. proscriptus

I completely agree, it looks like a render mashing up three different cars

It seems I’m in the minority when I never disliked the look of the new M2. It’s actually the only one of the new gen of M cars I don’t dislike.
