Nissan Juke Hybrid Review

Nissan Juke Hybrid Review

Hey there everybody Welcome to AO bears and this is the new Nissan Juke Hybrid now I don’t need to tell you that the first generation Juke was a massive hit for the Japanese brand and when the latest generation came out it improved in all areas in fact it was only really the power train that people saw a weakness in this latest generation Juke

So Nissan looked at creating a hybrid version because of course in this world of electrification everyone is coming out with some sort of electrified vehicle so we now have this the Nissan Juke hybrid and with this car we have increased power increased economy and we also have some tweaks in regards to the

Drive so I’ve had this latest generation Nissan Juke hybrid for a week and I’m going to see how much better that is than the standard un hybrid version and in a very competitive segment M should you considered the Juke now to the regular viewers of the channel you’re already aware that I have

Reviewed the non-hybrid version of the dukee and if you want to watch that review then you can click up in the top right hand corner or click on the link at the end of this video but I did say in that video that I really did love the

Design of the latest generation it was much more sophisticated and grown up I was just never a big fan of the first generation and always felt it was a bit too cutesy for my taste however what do I know because it was a massive sales hit now for this hybrid version there

Are a couple of exterior tweaks to differentiate between the non-hybrid and hybrid versions so apart from the obvious hybrid badging we have got this new honeycomb Grill on the front and it kind of looks like it’s filled in but it isn’t there are gaps in there to allow

Cooling we’ve also got these new alloy designs and they definitely have an aerodynamic look to them which again gives away the fact that the Juke hybrid is designed to be very aerodynamic as as it kind of goes through the air so that’s actually a really cool feature

And as you go higher up during the trim level range the designs do change as well and it does become a very goodlook crossover but let me know what you think of the new Nissan Juke hybrids design in the comments section below do you think Nissan have done enough to differentiate

It between the non-hybrid and hybrid versions but definitely let me know but I actually think that the new Nissan Juke is a really good looking car and yeah I think the hybrid does stand out as well even this n connector base model where I do have 17-in alloy wheels as

Standard so even though they don’t quite fill the Arches they do look very attractive and on that note I think it’s enough of looking at the outside of the Juke hybrid let’s see what Nissan have done with the interior sat in the front of the Juke hybrid just like the

Non-hybrid version you are presented with a very comfortable nicely designed and actually in terms of interior quality a much better better interior than its predecessor it is a nice pleasant place to be now of course because this is a crossover or little crossover SUV we have got slightly

Raised driving position so getting in and out of the Juke is actually really easy so if you do suffer from any kind of mobility issues I would recommend having a little look at the Juke but I will mention that the seats themselves are manual adjustment only and you don’t

Get lumbar support so if that’s something that’s important to you then I would advise to look elsewhere but as I said there is a good amount of adjustment in the seat itself we haven’t got that lumbar support and then we’ve got the steering wheel which has both

Rake and reach adjustment so you can get the ideal driving position and then just like the non-hybrid version interior quality is a massive leap up from its predecessor we have got some leatherette here on the dash and we have got a little bit of hard plastic on top of the

Dials and also on the doors but we have got some leatherette here on the door panel and also here on the center console and the armrest when it comes to the hard scratchy Plastics on the interior some of them do feel pretty robust and as you go lower down you get

This kind of metal effect trim and then it does get actually pretty sturdy down below so they should stand the test of time now the seats here as well are actually of a decent size and quality they do pretty much hold a big bear like

Me in place but I have noticed that uh when I’m kind of driving around I do find the side of the seat is rubbing against the armrest so if that’s going to be something that might annoy you I’d recommend looking at something with slightly bigger seats and a bigger

Interior so that’s just something to note there Kirby spaces in the Juke hybrid are exactly the same as the non-hybrid Juke so we have got some decent door size Pockets where you can get a medium to large siiz bottle of drink in there but they’re not lined

With any fabric so loose items will rattle around a bit now ahead of the gear lever we have got a little tray area which is rubber lined so you can put your phone in there and it should shouldn’t roll anywhere however I’ve got an iPhone 14 pro and it just about fits

Flush in there so if you have got a larger mobile device yeah it might possibly fling out as you go around the corner in an excited manner so that’s just something to be aware of and with that we have got a USB augs in and a 12vt socket then behind the gear lever

We have got a couple of cup holders and they are of a decent size and depth and your bottle of drink or your cup of coffee is not going to go anywhere so I do like that that but it’s not actually proper rubber lined it’s more of a hard

Plastic lining and then behind there we have got the center armrest which is okay I’m just going to say not too bad it’s got a little bit of extra storage space there but Rivals have got larger capacity space under the armrest and then finally as you heard the creaking

There we have got the glove box which when you get it open it looks like a massive aperture but there are a couple of little tray areas where you can put your book pack and perhaps put some important information in there so that is quite handy but again it’s not lined

With any fabric so loose items will rattle around a bit so that’s pretty much it when it comes to the interior uh cubby spaces they are pretty good but it’s exactly the same as the non-hybrid Juke now when it comes to physical buttons here in the Juke hybrids cabin

They are pretty much the same as what you get in the non-hybrid version apart from two additional buttons so firstly we have got the 8 in infotainment screen we got some Shortcut buttons and underneath and a couple of rotary knobs we still have single zone climate control and again everything’s

Controlled via physical buttons and rotary knobs we have got a physical start stop button there for the engine a traditional gearbox lever there as well which I do like your drive mode select just behind it and then we have got your electric handbrake and auto hold button

And then just behind there we have got one of the new buttons which says e pedal so that basically is for your regen braking very much like what you got in the niss s Leaf EV now I will mention a couple of the other physical buttons so one of them is the hazard

Lights which is located between two of the three vents here and then we have a dedicated EV button which is located on between the other two of the three vents on the dashboard and those are the two new buttons uh additions to the Juke hybrid now on the steering wheel on the

Left hand side we have got your media and Driver data controls and then on the right hand side I’ve got my cruise controls and communication controls now because I’ve got the N connector I don’t have Nissan’s Pro pilot system so there are a few blank spaces here on the

Right hand side of the steering wheel and then underneath the right hand vent we got a button for your lane keep assist and your instrument cluster brightness and then underneath that we have got a couple of blank spaces as well so it lets you know that if you go

Above the end connector trim you will get more standard kit when it comes to safety and driving AIDS and they would be kind of situated underneath the right air vent or on the right hand side of the steering wheel so that’s just something to be aware of and I do go

Through the trim levels later on in the review so yeah when it comes to physical buttons there are plenty of them here in the Juke hybrid and we just got two additional ones which are dedicated to this car and they will help you out when you’re driving however I will be honest

That EV button you’re probably very rarely going to press it it’s very much like the EV button you get in a Toyota hybrid I think if any is just going to gather dust over the months and years you have your Juke hybrid but that’s just my personal opinion let me know in

The comment section below if you intend to use that EV button often now when it comes to the infotainment system we have got the same 8in display which is a touchscreen that we got on the nonhybrid Juke and it is now starting to show its age the

Graphics are not the sharpest it’s not the quickest system to use when you’re on the move but you do get Apple carplay and Android Auto also I don’t like the fact that the screen just sits in the center and I would really like it to be

Turned towards me just to make it a bit easier to use when on the move so that’s a little bit disappointing and I’m really looking forward to seeing what the latest version of this uh system is for the facelifted or next Generation Juke because Rivals out there have got

Better infotainment systems then in front of the steering wheel we have got a couple of analog dials now instead of a rev counter we have got a charge Eco and power gauge and then underneath that there is actually like a little fuel gauge but that’s for the battery level

And then on the right hand side is your speedometer and your fuel tank level and then there’s a little 7-in TFT display in the center which provides you with all your information now compared to the nonhybrid version of the Juke the main change is that there is a display on

There which shows you the hybrid system in full use and yeah it’s actually quite clear and easy to use when on the move just using the buttons on the left left hand side of the steering wheel so all in all it’s very much like the normal

Interior of the non-hybrid Juke we got a couple of extra buttons in here but it very much is business as usual for the Juke hybrid and on that note I think it’s time we left the front of the duuke hybrid and see what it’s like in the

Rear set in the back of the dukee hybrid it is again very much the same as what you got from the non-hybrid dukee it is pretty spacious back here but it is lacking in a couple of areas so firstly that driver’s seat is set to my driving

Position I’m 5′ 7 tall and 5′ 7 wide and as you can see I’ve got an okay amount of knee room and head room is getting close to the limit so I think if you are 6t and taller you’re going to feel quite hemmed in and claustrophobic back here

Now I don’t think you could get three adults in the back of the dukee maybe small adults but definitely not people of my size but you could easily get three kids back here now speaking of kids when it comes to isofix we got supports on the outer seats and what I

Like is that there’s a nice little plastic cover that you can just lift up and it exposes the isopix bars so a fix in the child seat is really easy then cubby spaces is actually quite disappointing back here yes we got some decent sized door pockets and you can get a medium to

Large size bottle of drink in there but again not lined with any fabric then we got no airplane style pockets on the backs of the front seats and we got no pull out armrest with additional cup holders in fact the only additional bit of storage space we have is a little

Cubby here where you could perhaps put your mobile phone whilst it’s charging by the single USB socket and then we got the windows themselves which are quite small and narrow and they are tinted on this car but they don’t open all the way down but it is just enough to be able to

Rest your arm on the window Edge however it does feel a bit high and that’s the other thing as well is that there’s a little bit of a downgrade in quality back here yes we got a little bit of leatherette here on the door but it does feel very cheap plasticky

Back here which is a bit disappointing also I’d love to see the option of a sunroof because again with the dark headlining it can feel a bit dark and gloomy back here but if you’re doing a short journey in the Juke hybrid you should be absolutely fine unless you’re

Over six foot tall but on that note I think it’s time that we leave the back seats of the dukee and we see what it’s like in the boot opening the boot of the Juke hybrid presents you with 350 L of space which in this segment actually isn’t that good

Anymore and it is actually a drop of 72 L from the nonhybrid version of the Juke that’s because underneath the second boot floor we have got the battery and electric motor under there so we do lose out but when you get the boot open you

Do find you got a nice Square wide load area and there’s virtually no load lip so loading any heavy items in is actually really nice and easy and also out of the Duke’s boot now just like before we have got a variable boot floor where you can lower it down but I will

Say you probably want to keep it in that position especially if you want to put the rear seats down because you have an almost completely flat load Bay and also it means you can put the parcel shelf underneath the boot floor and then that’s pretty much it

When it comes to the Juke hybrids boot we have a couple of little tethering type shopping hooks here but there’s no 12vt socket so yeah it’s a little bit disappointing that we’ve lost some of the boot capacity with it going as a hybrid but it’s still a very usable

Space and you can easily get a suitcase and maybe a short carry-on in there as well plus a few weekend bags but it should be absolutely fine as well for your weekend shopping but that’s it when it comes to the Practical side of the Nissan Juke hybrid I think it’s now time

We take it for a drive but before I do I want to tell you about one of the features I really do love about the new Juke and it’s called keyless and go and essentially I can close the boot and walk away don’t have to press anything

And the car will lock itself like so so once you start driving the dukee hybrid first impressions are pretty positive it’s a nice comfortable and easy car to drive the first thing you will find is that extra power is welcome to the Juke range it definitely feels much more nippier than

The nonhybrid version and then apart from that you can feel some little tweaks to the suspension and the handling as you Chuck it about the corners but Nissan won’t necessarily tell us what exactly has been done but everything else then really feels very much like a Juke so we

Have got that raised driving position so I got a really good view of the road ah head the a pillars are not too thick and I’ve not found myself looking around them at any Junctions the wing mirrors are of a decent size and shape however

They do give off a little bit of wind noise and I don’t have blind spot monitoring on this particular Juke hybrid and then if I look over my shoulder I do find I got quite a thick sea pillar there so I have got a bit of a blind spot and then rear visibility

Exactly the same so it’s not necessarily a full-on letter box view but it is a bit narrower especially when compared to some of its Rivals so yeah when you start driving the Juke hybrid you can tell there are some improvements there against the non-hybrid version and you can also feel

Where it feels very much like a Juke and that’s not necessarily a bad thing now there are three trim levels to choose from in the Juke hybrid range there’s the entry level end connector which is what I’ve got here the Techna and the top of the range Techna plus now

My recommendation is very easy go straight in the middle and get yourself the Techna cuz when it comes to standard equipment you’ll get everything that you’ll want to need especially when it comes to safety and Driver AIDS because you’ll get Nissan’s propilot system which is absolutely brilliant and I do

Think it’s arguably one of the best systems out there so you get things like your radar guided cruise control and a raft of Safety Systems as standard you also get things like a heat pack you get heated front seats and a heated front screen that was definitely very welcome

This week unfortunately I don’t get it on the end connector you also get things like the Boza sound system so you get the speakers in the headrest they’re very cool as well and you get things like interior mood lighting but yeah that would be my recommendation go for

The Techna now if you go for the top of the range Techna plus that’s more of a kind of a personalization trim that’s just kind of paying a bit extra so you get things like a two-tone paint job and little extra bits for the interior for

You so stick with the tekna the only thing I would say is with the tekna you do get 19in alloy wheels with this end connector you get 17s so just make sure you take a test drive to make sure you’re happy with the ride comfort of

The Techna and if possible have a drive the end connector and just see how you feel about that one as well because these 17-in alloy wheels they do look very nice and granted yes they don’t fill up the Arches but they might just be not necessarily a deal breaker but something important to

You when it comes to ride Comfort but I stand by what I said though go and look at the Techna as my uh trim level of choice now there’s only one engine available in the Juke hybrid range it is a 1.6 L petrol engine and when partnered

Up with the 1.2 kour battery in electric motor actually produces 141 brake horsepower now that power goes through a six-speed automatic transmission down through the front wheels there’s no all-wheel drive version of the Juke hybrid available and when it comes to nuta 60 time well it should take the

Juke hybrid about 10.1 seconds which is quicker than the non-hybrid version but it’s still over 10 seconds to hit 60 and there are quicker cars out there in this segment also the transmission or the gearbox is actually very unique so as I said it’s a six-speed automatic

Transmission but it’s kind of split into two sections two of the gears are EV dedicated and the other four are petrol engine dedicated and as a gearbox it actually works really well when it’s transitioning between EV and petrol engine for the most part you can’t feel

It there are a couple of occasions where it does get a little bit hesitant and you can feel like a slight jerkiness as you’re kind of accelerating but for the most part as I said you can’t feel it it is actually a very smooth gearbox and

One thing is for certain when you pull away in the Juke hybrid it’ll always be in an EV gear the first gear is always EV now I thought I could catch out that gearbox this uh this week because we had a day when it was minus three outside

And yes when I started the Juke C I could hear the engine revving but when I accelerated and pulled away from a standstill it was in EV mode the engine didn’t change revs or anything the engine was just warming up so I really did like that feature with the Juke

Hybrid now of course because it’s a hybrid we need to talk about efficiency and it is more efficient and more frugal than its nonhybrid brother so in terms of a combined cycle Nissan say I should get around 56.5 MP gallon and for the most part I

Do believe them but it does depend on how you drive the Juke hybrid now on days where I haven’t been driving like Miss Daisy’s grandmother I’ve been getting in the late 40s and then on a couple of days where I have been driving like Miss Daisy’s grandmother and just

Driving in a very relaxed manner from work to home I have gotten over 56 MP G and on one occasion just trying to kind of play with the hybrid settings and the EV settings I did get over 60 so that was something I was pretty impressed with but realistically you’re going to

Be looking around the 50 m per gallon mark and it is pretty easy to achieve that so that’s one thing I do like about the Juke hybrid the other thing I will mention is when it came to me and got delivered it had a full fuel tank and it

Was telling me over 500 mil of range which again is actually pretty impressive but that did quickly drop so I would probably say about 400 to 450 M of range on a full tank in the Juke so yeah when it comes to the engine and the transmission it is more frugal than its

Nonhybrid version It’s non- hybrid counterpart but in a world where or in a segment which is coming out with a lot of these hybrid cars they’re all very much close to each other when it comes to the economy and when it comes to Performance there are cars out there which do have hybrid

Motors and everything but perhaps just have a little bit more power to play with so that’s just something to be aware of now as I mentioned earlier there are two buttons added to the Duke hybrids cabin that are basically bespoke to the Juke hybrid one of them is an e pedal

Button and the other is a dedicated EV button now the E pedal is going to be quite familiar to you if you’ve driven a Nissan Leaf and basically it’s a regen button now you don’t get the full one pedal driving experience that you would do in the leaf because this isn’t an EV

It’s a hybrid but when you’ve got it turned on it does give a good amount of braking to the regen system I do actually like it it’s yeah it’s got a decent strength to it and it does mean you can charge the battery up pretty quickly simply by using the brakes and

Then secondly we’ve got the EV button which is situated on the dash in between the vents and that basically means you can drive in full EV mode up to speeds of 34 mph what you will find is if you do Drive in full EV mode is that the

Battery does empty quite quickly and you’ll get to around a quarter of I’d say a tank of battery or a quarter of the battery batter’s fullness before it kind of stops and says the battery is too low so that’s just something to be aware of but when

It goes back to be in a hybrid it actually takes about 15 to 20 seconds to charge it back up to halfway so then you can just press the EV button and do the whole system again so that’s something I actually kind of liked about it and it

Does boost your miles per gallon hence I was able to get over 60 MPG on one of the days coming home from work so the buttons themselves are pretty useful but I got this weird feeling you’re not going to be using the EV button that often but you will use the E pedal

Button on quite a regular basis so what’s the ride and refinement like in the Juke hybrid well as I mentioned earlier Nissan have said they’ve done a couple of little tweaks to the ride and handling of the Juke hybrid now that might be just to kind of deal with the

Additional weight of having the battery and electri motor in the hybrid version which I can understand and it does feel a little bit more Tau in the suspension and it’s not necessarily a bad thing I know the Juke is renowned for having quite firm suspension so at low speed

You can feel all the bumps and Imperfections kind of come up into the cabin one of the nice things about the end connector trim that I’ve got here is you do get 17in alloy wheels so you got a bit more tire side wall so it can deal with those bumps and Imperfections a

Little bit more than say the Techno or techno plus where you get 19s as standard but for day-to-day driving you can have no issues really with the ride it just deals with the bumps and Imperfections pretty well there are more comfortable cars out there in this segment don’t forget the Juke has always

Had this kind of Lifestyle car feel about it where you don’t necessarily buy it for the practicality and the space and everything you buy it for the looks and the quirkiness and that kind of Tor sporti esque suspension is there to help now when it comes to the refinement

It’s okay to pretty good so I’m driving along here around 30 m an hour the main intrusion is a little bit of Tire raar because this is a rough road surface I’m driving on but as I speed up I do get the engine noise coming into the

Cabin and I start to get a bit of wind noise coming off the wing mirrors so if you are driving along on the motorway and you haven’t got any music playing that’s going to be a bit of an intrusion into the cabin and again another reason why I recommend the

Techna because you do get that bosea sound system which will definitely drown out those exterior noises so when it comes to the refinement just like the ride side of things it’s yeah okay to good but again in this class of cars which is a very competitive class of car

There are more refined cars out there so what’s the handling like in the Juke hybrid well firstly I do like the steering wheel and the feel of it in my hands it actually feels nice to hold on to secondly the actual steering feel with the front wheels I do like as

Well there is a bit of a connection there which I do like and there’s a bit of weight to the steering also so it does mean that you feel connected to the car it doesn’t feel over assisted and doesn’t feel detached or like you’re driving in a video game however that

Doesn’t necessarily mean you get a truly sporty crossover I’ve already mentioned regarding the ride and the refinement that it doesn’t feel too sporty and if I put it into sport mode now and let’s see give us a little bit of a push around the corners well they got the engine drone

Which is not a pleasant sound coming into the cabin give it a bit of a push you just watching that rev counter kind of go up and down up and down it’s not making for a very sporty experience now I do like the handling though and in sport mode it does feel pretty

Composed and a tiny bit of lean in the corners but very composed now if you have it in normal or Eco it does feel ever so slightly softer but it’s not a massive difference ultimately the Juke hybrid is just not a sporty little crossover this is designed to be at home in

Towns and in rural areas or should I say residential areas where it can drive around at say 30 mph in EV mode and drive in a nice relaxing manner but so what have been some of the highlights and some of the low points I’ve experienced living with the Juke hybrid

This week well in terms of little niggles they’ve been few and far between now the one that does stand out for me is the E pedal I have to constantly hit that button every time I get into the Juke hybrid and I would like it to just

Stay on permanently also when it comes to the electric handbrake you have to disengage it when you put it into gear and about to set off but it will automatically turn on or set on when you put it into park so I would like it to kind of automatically disengage when it

Goes into drive and I set off now something I do like in regards to the kind of Lane keeper assist because that’s something which is a massive niggle on a lot of cars out there and I’m not the only one to experience it but what I like on the Juke hybrid is

That you do get the L departure warning that’s constantly on so if I do stray literally like now over the white lines even though there are no white lines in front of me it will just give you a little bit of a vibration and a buzz in

The steering wheel but I can actually turn on the proper Lan keep assist if I wanted to but I’ve chosen to keep that turned off that’s something I really do like so you have got a lane departure warning system there for you but the lane keep assist which is the more

Intrusive system you can choose to turn that off so I really do like that so what are my thoughts on the Nissan Juke hybrid well making the Juke a hybrid version is definitely the way forward for this car because it definitely needed it in terms of that

Extra power boost but also the extra efficiency especially we are in a very competitive segment where everyone else is looking to come out with some sort of hybridization on their vehicles whether it be mild full or plug-in now plug-in hybrid is something that Nissan has said they’re not really looking to do because

They don’t feel many people who have a plug-in hybrid actually fully use it to its potential so they will be sticking with these kind of full hybrids in the meantime but on the Nissan Juke it feels like a good step up I do like some of the quirks and Ingenuity that they

Thought of that gearbox where it’s split into EV and Ice I think works really well and as that technology develops it’ll become more seamless it’ll become smoother and if anything as well it’ll become quicker when they want to produce perhaps a sporty hybrid vehicle but as a

First attempt here on the Juke it is a very valant effort from the Japanese brand the only thing is it still has the dukee strengths but it still also now has some additional weaknesses so that increase in price is one of them the kind of step down in practicality

Because of where to locate the electric motor and the batteries is also going to have an effect the thing with the Juke is it’s a very quirky choice and as a result tends to be a very popular one especially looking at the first generation given it the hybridization

Does mean it hasn’t added string to its bow and will definitely appeal to those looking for a hybrid car and especially those who’ve been really wanting a Juke but they just didn’t want that 1 lit petrol engine they wanted more performance and more economy the thing

Is though as a car the Duke’s pretty well rounded the problem is in this highly competitive segment if you’re after something with a bit more space bit more practicality a bit more frugality looks a bit more conventional there are other cars out there from stellantis from Volkswagen group from Hyundai group anywhere you

Look there are rivals in this segment so if you are looking at the dukee hybrid as your next car as your next little crossover all I would say is don’t be afraid to look at the other cars as well because there is a huge amount of competition out there but as a

Car itself the Juke hybrid the extra power and frugality is a welcome addition and it still retains that quirkiness that made it so popular in the first place so everyone I hope you’ve enjoyed my review of the Nissan Juke hybrid as always don’t forget to like don’t forget to subscribe and hit
