Style Porsche x Marc Fornes: Episode 1 – The Soul

[Applause] Yeah my name is Mark foress I’m an architect and this is what I make I’m principal of the very many so I drive a 993 carera 2 there’s a lot in common between um car designer and architect I provide experience I provide an environment the car designer is the

Same I’m so excited to work with poer and like-minded people such as Michael Mower to build my version of a two-car garage driving an in you’re wondering who is Michael mow I just loved and love cars that I love the idea of creating a product that I can use

Myself over these 75 years there has been developed not just the brand but some people just call it the soul of the brand people want to feel this kind of soulle of the brand in the product the success of the Porsche brand is as well based on that we have a kind of

Evolutionary process uh when it comes to our design language that we cultivated based on certain principles because what we want to create is a very very strong brand identity let’s talk a little bit about our keywords on this car and start with purpose you could very easily see here

On the front all this air intake design of the air intake and here of the outlet is purely performance to increase the cooling system of the car our second word Focus very much expressed by let’s say the design of this headlamp that the car looks very focused the light band on

The rear has this very focused expression at night you can easily see that this is a Porsche that is passing you tension is another keyword if you look at our uh surface treatment where we have this convex concave uh surfaces this combination of surface treatment combined with edges creates this tension

I have always this picture of throwing the stone very far into the future that’s what we call forecast and then do a kind of backcasting and then think about what of this very Progressive and futuristic ideas would be possible even in 10 or 5 years I think there is really

A connection to me between the brand Porche and the type of work we do if all the designer at Porsche would have to actually create architecture artwork where would they go the debut of the electric Manan we want that moment to be unique and we want your environment to reflect That

Did you know that architecture and car design have a lot in common? We spoke to architect Marc Fornes and Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche, about three integral design principles: tension, focus and purpose.
