Verge TS Ultra: The Future of Electric Motorcycling | CES 2024
Hi Rob shell Hub with Monro live we’re here at CES 2024 we’re with Marco of verg motorcycles Marco nice to meet you nice to meeting you yeah tell me a little bit about your product sure so uh this is the latest uh version of uh Verge TS motorbike it’s The Verge TS
Ultra version if we start from the kind of basics of that are true to all of our motor mot Cycles uh the very distinct feature is the is the rear tire or the wheel and uh what we’ve done here is that uh this here is a rim motor uh it’s
Patented by us nobody else can build such and it is a very um uh kind of distinct look but it’s a function first so the reason why we uh build this kind of motor is that traditionally with electric motorcycles uh you the existing players have basically use 100y old architecture
And electrified it by putting the motor where electric motor where the combustion engine used to be and then replacing the tank with the battery and so forth and so forth the problem is that uh battery packs are very heavy so you don’t want them high because that creates high Center gravity you want
Them as low as possible so in order to be able to place the battery as low as possible to the bottom of the vehicle and uh and make the battery pack as big as possible uh we wanted to replace the motor somewhere else and we picked this design uh because the traditional pin
Motor couldn’t produce enough power for this pick of a motorcycle but this reverse uh design allows us to uh not just uh to match what’s out there but this is actually the most powerful motor in an electric motorcycle up to 201 horsepower and um so by moving the motor
Out of the out of the main body we’ve been able to remove all the moving Parts including power transmission there’s no belts or gears or anything like that and actually there’s no other moving Parts than the two tires and uh and the and the brake discs and the suspension and
Um and there’s also no liquid cooling of any kind so it’s really as close to zero maintenance as you could possibly get and uh with this new model that we just released uh today is uh that this not only has the features that I just shared
But it also has the ability to see so what we mean is that we placed six cameras on the on the motorcycle on the on the different angles to provide 360 uh vision for the motorcycle as well as it has two high resolution Radars front
And back and out of this data we have created uh machine learning models and Machine Vision models to allow the motorcycle to recognize uh obstacles and other cars you know if you’re changing lanes and there’s another car passing by uh at a dangerous angle we will let the
Uh Rider know you going to have some sort of indicator lights on there like you do in the vehicles yes yes we do and and so the indicator lights are showing on out this is also new we have uh what we call statter Dash it’s our new display that while you’re writing you
Can you can easily still control the basic settings and also if you if you turn the line chain signal on you can see the right side of the of the vehicle with the with the rear mirror and uh you can also trigger that manually by clicking this uh button in
In the back and uh you can also turn on a mode that continuously shows the rear rear mirror and uh but it’s just the beginning I mean our bikes are over the air updatable uh not just the uh the application and software layer but also the underneath the motor control and
Vehicle control units and all of these we’ve actually that’s one of the areas where we pioneered um uh in motorcycles because if you buy your phone you can expect it to be updated and get better over the operating system updates and so forth but typically if you buy a
Motorcycle it’s the best on the day when you buy it we wanted to reverse that and uh this is now first of our uh many updates to come uh since we released our star uh platform in November which is our kind of digital and uh intelligence platform so so are these available for
Purchase to right hand the street yes yes absolutely uh since uh I think yesterday night uh these are now available for uh purchase in the US uh we are still at the last renes of the home location so you can do preliminary reservation uh but we will have them uh
Available uh likely in May or June this year and uh but uh but yeah you can place the reservation anyway the the TS Ultra uh queue is now up to I think end of Q3 and uh that’s when you’ll get your bike if you order today very nice tell
Me a little bit about the battery structure in is it is internally manufactured by yourself or you that yeah so we are completely vertically integrated so we built all the core components ourselves the motor is designed and manufactured by us the battery pack is designed and manufactured by us even the main PCB
Board that runs all the all the smarts is designed and and uh by by by us and so yeah the the battery pack it’s basically a special structure it starts from the very bottom of the vehicle goes up to around here we still have more space to put more battery if we wanted
To but already it takes you in the in the city ride to up to 233 Mi wow so uh and in hard Highway drive around 134 miles okay and and uh and so it’s already substantial and so we find the kind of best balance of weight and and
Uh and distance uh with the current structure nice and the the upgrades at at the other vehicle that you have over here the California that’s the first version is that one already production ready yeah absolutely so so both of these so the the the motorcycle up there
Is uh vers TS Pro and this is the vers TS Ultra uh we we already had Ultra in the market but now we just upgraded with all the star Vision system and the ability to see as well as the new dash display so both of these are available
