2024 Lexus TX 500h FSP Review – The Family-Sized Cavalry has ARRIVED!

2024 Lexus TX 500h FSP Review – The Family-Sized Cavalry has ARRIVED!

It’s my birthday and Lexis has sent me the TX 500h for review and I feel like it’s the perfect birthday present for my family now it’s just for review I don’t I don’t get to keep this maybe one day I’ll get one back when I started this

Channel many of you knew that I was a Lexus sales consultant for a few years and when I was selling Lexus we did not have a proper three row family hauler we had the GX which has no cargo space after that third row and it’s very cramped on the inside which there’s a

New one coming out that’s bigger and better there’s the LX which was just too expensive for most families and still was compromised with cargo space um and then we had the RX 350 l or the 450hl and that was just kind of a joke of a three row I’m not going to talk

About that vehicle because it gets me fired up I wanted this vehicle when I was selling Lexus I was losing sales to families uh they would go get an MDX they’ go get a qx6 they go get a Audi Q7 Etc or an Escalade and now Lexus has the

Perfect solution for large families with a caveat we’ll talk about that later in the video and I was asking for this vehicle so many years back and I finally get this present here on my birthday to review for you guys is it everything that I wish for pretty

Much under the hood of this particular TX is the 2 and 1/2 L Turbo Hybrid single motor hybrid it’s the first that I’m aware of from Toyota and Lexus with this power train to have a single motor hybrid up front Honda uses a very similar hybrid technology so you have

This turbocharged 4 cylinder which produces around 275 horsepower itself made it to about an 80 horsepower electric motor up here and that’s connected to a six-speed automatic transmission now this has an additional electric motor in the back around 100 horsepower to give you a combined 366

Horsepower and 406 lb feet of torque I’m seeing over 25 M for G definitely stay to the end where I can show you my full fuel economy and driving impression so closing this that engine sound goes completely away when you slam it notice the FL well and the engine just turned

Off right the hybrid the engine will turn on and off notice the flush of the Lexus logo so many previous lexuses all that Lexus logo was smashed in the front like Rudolph the Red-Nose Rader now it’s much more premium looking speaking of Premium I really like this Grill I think

It does look better than the grand Highlander after spending more time with this but your mileage may vary also those fog lights down below and this black portion here is added for the fport model as well as the more aggressive piece at the bottom of the bumper I think the standard premium and

Luxury models not the fport models look maybe slightly better than this fport model but I still like how this one looks as well now with these daytime running lights they’re kind of flipped upside down the Lexus Elmo Motif typically they’ll be rotated what 180° and it’s more that Nike Swoosh most of

The time they switch it up here and it’s just a single LED beam no option for the Lexus staple the triple beam LED headlight so that is a bit of a a head scratcher for me why they didn’t Implement that here now this fport also has those cool roof racks up top you

Could put well where I live put paddle boards up there or I don’t know canoes or something all right check out these F Sport Wheels these things are massive 22in Wheels the largest wheels that I think I’ve ever seen on a Lexus before and this Lexus design on these wheels is

Gorgeous it’s super sporty it’s got lots of depth to it you got two different wheel designs in one with the gray overlaying the black the two-tone is amazing also this f- sport performance model has oversized brakes up front you have I believe six piston calipers up there which is quite impressive with

Huge rotors now from the side this looks a lot like it’s Toyota brother the grand Highlander and yes you kind of have that decal on the d-pillar there for that floating roof line it’s going to have bigger Wheels than a grand Highlander you know this export performance gives

You blacked out uh mirrors sort performance is also accented by this black f- sport logo instead of a white background logo for standard fport appearance models uh the daylight openings here the window surrounds are all dark Chrome which look really nice here um and then the a pillar sorry the

B pillar is also glossy black as well coming around to the back we got the wraparound rear tail light is becoming more and more synonymous with Lex’s Vehicles the NX the RX the ux the is all have a light bar that goes across but the new GX has a light bar that goes

Across the back it looks really really premium at night no longer do we have a Lexus logo on the back Lexus has moved to typing their name on the back which I actually really like I didn’t like it at first now you there’s plenty of room here for Alexus logo and this is

Probably where the Toyota logo goes on the grand Highlander uh TX 500h the direct 4 that’s their name for their all-wheel drive hybrid system or fully electric all-wheel drive system let’s say on the RZ kind of a little rear diffuser back there and since this is the first usable family hauler with

Cargo capacity let’s check this out I like this sport mat here now underneath we have this nice pole tab that’s leather with some stitching on it but just to fix a flat kit and maybe a tono cover back there I have electric folding seats here and then I also have this

Amazing 1500 wat power adapter so that’s an awesome for kids you can run an extension cord they can run all their tablets or screens run a laptop on that easy Etc uh the Lexus first aid kit which is velcro it’s really really stuck on there and that was bothering me so

I’m going to put it maybe let’s put it like that so it’s a little bit more aligned and look you even have a little Lexus logo zipper Lexus uh embossed little case there as well of course you can fold down the seats let’s go and do

That so you guys have an idea of that cargo capacity hopefully those headrests fold down there they go I remember that being like folding these down on the grand Highlander was a big pain in the butt not here in the Lexus TX with the motorized yes it takes forever a day and

A half of them to fold down um but they are I’m just going to I’m just going to cut to the back now do we have a uh kick sensor here we do excellent there it goes these are not real handles they’re more like a plastic bar you pull on and

Notice we have Smart access doors you can lock them and open them uh from any any uh door handle which is great so there’s a little uh button in there that actually unlatches the door then you just pull on that handle that handle does not move we have sun shades back

Here which is excellent for the rear passengers you know this looks super plain non-luxury but you feel it and it feels butter like luxury so I just wish it had a little bit more contrast here you got that little Marky Mark levenson logo here which sounds unreal sounds

Better than the Burmeister stereo that I had on the nearly $200,000 GLS last week so yes anyways digital latch here the kids are still trying to figure out these door handles but I haven’t really taught them very well okay the kids have been having a great time back here so

Much space for them to get in and out of course I can remove this piece as well uh if I want to also remove the cup holders heated and ventilated outboard seats here on this F Sport performance luxury model outboard USBS another power outlet 1500 watts here matte pockets on

Each side these fport seats feel pretty pretty quality I’ll talk more about them here in a little bit on the driving Impressions nice stitching I mean these seats are just massive they look just like the grand Highlanders just with different suede materials here on the

Fport but in a three row you know Lexus and Toyota really say that this vehicle has a good seat everywhere you sit unfortunately there’s no third row or sorry third seat back here so this is massive Vehicles only a six seater and the only way you can get a seventh seat

Is on the non-hybrids which I wouldn’t be buying a non-hybrid here in a performance and luxury model that four cylinder is not going to cut it for me so I would either have to go to a different vehicle or just not take one of my kids which is not going to happen

But that’s just me uh back to these back seats they are huge I have headro back here I have good leg room and of course this seat can move forward I have a grab handle uh so press that button there um this will slide forward kids can get in

And out they don’t have to go through the captain’s chair area but I have a grab handle with the integrated USBC Port oh this is my reclining seat back it’s pretty nice and look I have leather materials back here as well with a bunch of cup holders a tablet holder and all

That good stuff so uh easy access to the top tethers as well can I pull this back now there we go of course we have a beautiful panel roof I mean this vehicle just came fres off the pet press I’m finding stickers still in here for me to

Tear off so you see that sticker up there I had a sticker up there underneath um the vents that I took off this week but that the panel roof in here is awesome I like having ceiling mounted vents over every passenger to help cool a little bit better instead of

Having them mounted on the armrest or something so it’s great to have them over every passenger here uh not in the front seat you have all those vents up there but for the passengers in the back it’s over your head and I’m still too

Tall for a back seat to get in and out through the kids way but for kids it’s going to be amazing so let’s get into the front seat because that’s where I spend all my time again very plain looking we have a little bit more depth here with this

Piece that comes out a little bit with the mark levenson built in um stitching here on the armrest autof folding side mirrors all that good stuff I do have an f- sport uh puddle lamp that comes down which is pretty nice now this is um a

Detail that Lexus did not pick up here notice it has the white background for the S sport that should be a black background here for the S sport performance model so if someone messed up in the part ordering or the part design as well as the mat that should be

A black F Sport logo uh but only freaks like me would notice that all right let’s get into the seats they are a little bit tight for me I’ll talk about that uh on the driving Impressions fport logo here it looks like they’re taken out of an RX they look super super

Similar U memory seats of course lots of black bezel around fully digital 12-in screen here it’s one of the first Lexus models to have a fully digital a large mid behind the steer wheel that is customizable um and then I don’t know if you can see you can customize your uh

Head-up display here with the buttons and also using the big touchcreen this is a 14-inch touchcreen Android auto has been spotty for me yes it can do wireless and wired neither have been working consistent but I don’t know if it’s due to the latest Android 14 update

That could have screwed that all up climate control knobs have a nice click and heft to them same thing with the volume knobs very smooth very luxurious feeling climate controls always up you also have this Sub menu here if you want to get into sport mode um you can turn

On or off the power adjustment uh or the power output for the back seats and the cargo area uh you can turn off the head-up display get into different driving modes turn on different driving assists all that good stuff turn off proactive driving assists as soon as you

Can because it really diminishes the driving experience it tries to break for you and turn for you it does all sorts of weird things uh that really will mess up your driving experience so I turn that off right away vents down here that I feel like even though they’re down low

They do a really good job of moving air towards me and they are very quiet vents also have a vent over there and the passenger up there on the dash materials are very nice again just not enough contrast for me I’d want I might actually have to go for the red seats

Just so I have a little bit more contrast of color and depth here all right speaking of depth you have a storage space on here with the 12vt that is felt lined uh a pop out tray for your wireless charger that you can just t your phone away because in theory your

Android auto Wireless and Apple carplay wireless will just be working and then you have the storage down here and your phone’s tucked away so uh you also have removable cup holders which are pretty neat like we have in the back so if you wanted to open this up for something

Else magazines I don’t know you can really small shifter I’m getting used to it it looks nice it feels nice I just you know I like big mey traditional shifters but it’s a Toyota hybrid so it’s kind of par for course auto brake hold works awesome in here um but it

Does not remember uh if you had it on your previous startup so you have to turn this on every single time you get in the car if you like having auto brake hold on so that’s kind of annoying you have this off-road mode which I’ll never use traction control off I’ll never use

That automatic parking brake which comes on uh every time I put it into park so armrest here pop this open really deep storage all felt lined and there is a light in there at night to I see more tape there’s a light in there at night to illuminate your belonging so man what

Do you say we get on the road here with its digital rearview mirror and talk about my driving Impressions while I take the kids to pottery class rolling onto the gas pedal down all the way there’s 60 very smooth and potent delivery of the power there you know the

First initial mile per hour IID say maybe up to 10 feels mainly electric which is very very satisfying and smooth with that e axle on the back providing around 100 horsepower of juice uh and then of course you have that ex axle well it’s not really ex exle but the

Motor generator setup up front uh connected to the four cylinder that also provides a very smooth uh delivery the brakes here perfect time right red light the brakes here might have the most satisfying initial bite and punch to them out of any Lexus of ever driven before you know this fport has bigger

Brakes and discs and calipers up front and the second you press on that gas or the the brake pedal you get a nice bite and dig into those rotors which feels really really good here so many times and it hasn’t been until recently in Toyota and Lexus hybrids that they

Haven’t you know the brake pedals just never felt very good wishy-washy very mushy now you have a nice bite here in a Toyota Alexus hybrid that I wasn’t really expecting but it definitely suits this F Sport performance model back into the gas awesome acceleration here for such a

Large three row crossover um you know I had the CAC Escalade a few weeks back and this is a competitor yes it’s not body on frame but uh in terms of luxury size and smoothness this is really close and this is going to cost a lot less

Compared to that Escalade as well but that Escalade yes at the V8 I was getting like I don’t know 18 m per gallon on that something like that and here I’m getting 26 and2 and I’m getting the same acceleration as that V8 and that Escalade so just an amazing

Engineering feat here by Toyota and Lexus uh with this hybrid Max powertrain I’ve driven it on the grand Highlander I’ve driven it on the RX 500h fsp as well as the crown and I wouldn’t say it is like a true performance powertrain I feel like it’s a true successor to the

V8s of old and the discontinu V8s um you have very smooth and quiet operation you almost never know when the four cylinder is actually running unless you have your foot buried it’s pretty much in the background all the time and the electric supplementation and power delivery

Really makes this super smooth like a V8 would be so I think this powertrain is fantastic it’s kind of the spiritual successor to the V8 for the monor times just with a lot better fuel economy and maybe with a little bit better torque and initial uh Surge and power so it’s

Very very satisfying and this would be a Powertrain that I would be getting in this vehicle or the plug-in hybrid plug-in hybrid gives you a little bit more smoothness it doesn’t have a six-speed Auto just has a CVT but you get 33 Mi of electric range you have the

Smoothness of a V6 when you do need to dig into that internal combustion power and that plug-in hybrid V6 is suited for royalty the century SUV that I detailed for you guys when it at the Japan Mobility show that’s the only other vehicle that that plug-in hybrid V6 is

In and that costs about $200,000 and you can get it in the TX for I think around 80,000 which I think is a great deal and it competes very well with the Volvo uh XC90 plugin hybrid it’s not quite as fast but I guarantee you it’s just as smooth and

You probably have a little bit more electric ump when you’re driving on EV only so I really am happy with the electrified powertrains here and the TX now I haven’t driven just the uh gasoline model without the hybrid the 2.4 turbo but I’ve driven in countless other Toyota models and Lexus models and

I don’t like it um it’s really it just doesn’t sound very good it yes the all-wheel drive on it really really impressive and the eight speed is pretty good too I just you know the fuel economy is so bad on it and I can get better fuel economy and better

Performance here on the 500h and that’s the route I would be going unless you’re off-roading this of course that you know mechanical linkage is going to be better for off-roading but who’s taking their TX or grand Highlander Offroad I’m handling here now I’m not going to be

Able to push it too much with the kids in the back I’m taking them to Pottery right now their pottery class we missed it last week due to the birth of our son um and today is my birthday so very excited to have this as my birthday

Present this year but yeah back to handling when you switch it into sport mode which I’ve put one of the buttons here on the steering wheel as uh my customizable sport mode like Easy Button since there’s no Drive select button over here it’s too modern and clean for

That so it’s in in here I’ve customized it to this head-up display linked steering wheel but but um yeah the sport mode does stiffen up things here the steering gets stiffer um the suspension gets stiffer with the Adaptive dampers you do really feel that rear wheel steering in certain situations you don’t

Always feel it but I feel like the harder you push this vehicle the more you feel that rear wheel steering assist and rotating this boat of a vehicle so the handling is pretty good and it feels much more stable and more rigid compared to the Grand Highlander that I threw

Around the turns in Hawaii um it still feels a bit lumbering through turns uh I wouldn’t say it uh it is a performance vehicle in the corners but it does feel very luxurious very smooth um albe it a bit cumbersome and I’m just keeping up with traffic

Right now you barely feel the shifts because you have that electrification uh kind of smoothing out the shifts from the rear motor in the front motor so it’s just an absolute like perfect Powertrain for everyday luxury I’m getting back to the powertrain because there’s so much to

Say about it um last week I was in a Maybach GLS 600 which cost 180 Grand and that had a twin turbo V8 mild hybrid and that was extremely buttery smooth of course it was had a lot more power was more satisfying when you got into it but

When you’re just tooling around uh keeping up with traffic this is more smooth than that twin turbo V8 and the reason is is that the the electric motors here really help supplement that little four cylinder and smooth things out really nicely and it turns on and

Off so smoothly you never know when the engine’s really on or off here where that mayback with the GLS V8 when you came to a stop sometimes it would turn off that V8 or turn it on and it did definitely shake the experience and was not very luxurious in that regard

Luckily you could turn off that stop engine feature here you don’t want to turn it off and you can’t anyways well I guess you can if you put it into sport mode it keeps the engine on all the time but right now there’s no vibrations going on uh because the engine’s off and

It’s just very smooth very seren very quiet and I guess that can lead into the next thing the grand Highlander is already really quiet which this is based off of that has active noise cancelling on all the trim levels this just has the addition of acoustic glass I don’t know

If it’s on all the doors the door panels are also thicker here compared to uh that Toyota counterpart there’s more structural adhesive uh there’s more sound ding materials there’s more spot welds so overall it feels more luxurious more Vault likee compared to the Grand Highlander um but the grand Highlander

Is still pretty quiet so um it soaks up the bumps in the in the road perfectly very very smooth I don’t get any vibrations to the pedal or the floor as much as the floor I was getting a lot more vibrations through the floor on the grand Highlander like I said they don’t

Have as much rigidity and uh vibration and sound ending materials as this has unfortunately I am getting I get a decent amount of vibrations through the steering wheel at times and that is not up to Lexus quality in my opinion but really that’s the only thing in here

That’s really not up to Lexus quality the build quality from my eye anyway seems to be really really good um the materials yes what I want wood in here absolutely since it’s NE performance what I want carbon fiber yes I guess I could put my own carbon fiber wrap on

Certain parts if I really wanted to so it’s just you know it’s it’s very H it’s it’s bare minimum from Lexus and they’ll probably do it from a cost standpoint to keep things very simple in here but at least there’s soft touch materials where I want them all over the doors all over

The dash and it’s not like just a chintzy soft touch no it’s it feels like leather just about everywhere even this piece right here is soft touch then you have suede below here on this F Sport you have suede in the seats speaking of the seat you know the bolsters for my

Mid section is this a little tight and I can’t adjust it I don’t believe um the bottom cushion also doesn’t have thigh extension which for a vehicle this price point you would wish you’d have the Volvo XC90 has that for example so the seat just feels a little bit small for

Me which is silly because I’m in a huge family hauler and this s sport performance seat just feels pretty small I bet it would feel a little bit more accommodating and larger uh on the standard seat on the 350 as well as the more luxury focused uh what was it the

550h plus model plugin hybrid so you probably wouldn’t have those same issues there on those models but here on this I just wish I’m wanting for a little bit more seat Comfort um with these smaller f- sport seats so to sum it up the TX is absolutely fantastic as a three row

Family hauler with plenty of cargo space plenty of luxury plenty of power do I wish I had a little bit nicer uh interior design and materials here in the there of course but this is also really really nice it’s very comfortable do I wish I had a bench seat on the

Hybrid so I can have my whole family I can’t even take my whole family in here of course I would love to have a seven seater here on the hybrid unfortunately you either have to get a grand Highland if you want a hybrid version of this

With seven seats or you have to get the 350 which that’s not going to fly for me it’s not good enough of a power train for Lexus in my opinion so if you don’t need seven seats and you want lots of space for your family of six or less or

You want additional cargo space for your family of six or less you have it here finally as a luxury Toyota made Lexus this thing um ticks pretty much all my boxes except for the ones I just mentioned they hit it out of the park the powert trains the electrified power

Trins are fantastic and I can’t wait to drive the plug-in hybrid version of this so yes Lexus has answered uh my wishes and prayers as a once Lexus consultant sales consultant and when I was losing sales to more competitive three row crossovers in the market when Lexus

Didn’t have it they had big body on frame um off-road focused vehicles that they stuffed a third row into now they have they’ve hit the market here perfectly with the TX with a variety of powertrains but let me know what you guys think of the TX down below I pretty

Much am smiling ear to ear when I drive this quiet refined smooth and huge that’s what I want in a three row people mover in a luxury package thank you Lexis for sending this to me thank you guys for watching if you enjoyed today’s video hit the like button

Subscribe um and yeah I’m just laughing my way to um pottery class still here getting 27 miles per gallon in a behemoth while that suburban’s making 16 something like that so thank you guys I’ll catch you in the next one have a great day peace
