It’s Real. The Dust Moto Alpha. // Test Ride

We’re out here today with the dust Moto crew checking out their newest alpha Build first off Josh Hill is going to ride it for the first time ever at Paris Raceway And then I’m going to spin some Laps on it out here at this test [Applause] Track the model one is dust Moto’s first electric dirt bike and this is the first generation or alpha build of the model one what’s unique about dust is that they’re being very public about their process developing this motorcycle most brands would not be showing you this version of their bike but we’ll dive

Into that a little bit later in the video for now let’s ride this thing map one that’s just like super mellow mode okay hit it again map two is like economy map three is where you’re going to want to be map three we’ll start at one and just you know Seas into it

Everything’s good um so far I mean I can tell the Chain’s clacking around a lot yeah we let’s just let’s try let’s just leave it for a little bit um ibe put a couple more minutes on it and then yeah get stretch in it um I only went to map to

Minut so I’ll go try three now if that’s good cool [Applause] Let’s just yeah let’s go look it over and just maybe tighten the chain tighten the spokes and make sure everything’s nothing wants to you know yep come come undone then we can maybe mess with it on the you know the real track cuz this thing is like it’s a real motorcycle

Turns good it’s pretty balanced like I have hit like we could probably use a little bit more stiffness in the shock but we don’t need to worry about that today cool sick dude sick we’re pumped man congrats man it looks cool too Yeah yeah Fresh freshly built bike just put together right they gave me the honors to be the first one to ride it on on dirt and uh took it slow to begin with but man it’s uh it’s pretty good like it feels like a dirt bike you know it

Doesn’t feel like a toy it feels like a dirt bike it feels solid it turn turns and handles like a Nimble dirt bike so I’m pretty pumped on that and this is just the first initial test to make sure it it rolls so it’s pretty rad with Josh’s ride done and dusted now

It’s my turn to hop on the alpha we do a lot of reviews on this channel but this is a prototype so for that simple reason we’re not reviewing this bike right now this is a feedback session with dust and an opportunity to try the Alpha version

So we’re going to keep our comments limited right now and save the review for the real production bike that’s awesome hell yeah this thing is so fun there’s plenty of little like suspension fine-tuning lever position type stuff but comfortable enough to run it totally yeah it’s awesome sweet yeah it’s like I

Felt like immediately comfortable on it yeah I looked it yeah so I you’re at 110 and then I actually sped up your rebound okay to compensate cool sounds good let’s see it was four clicks from middle okay I didn’t con so um yeah should be fine I’d

Say if it still feels just keep speeding up the rebound okay it doesn’t feel at all I was just like I I could feel it like at my speed entering these soft Corners I I just wanted like the fork to to get into the stroke just a little bit more you know

Okay totally the rear spring soft yeah it feels like it and that’s kind of like like the front the fork felt a little stiffer than the rear to me yeah all right I’m usually pretty nitpicky right away and it’s there’s nothing that’s jumping out at me that I’m like oh this feels

Super weird it feels very like standard dirt bike to me which is which is good yeah we have kind of 20 mm at bars we could go forward probably 10 mm rearward on pegs if or forward and after if we needed it so that’s good we’re kind of at a good

Starting Middle Point yep cool for a track like this you know obviously on the open track yesterday they’re looking for more gear how do you feel about gearing for something like this this felt fine want a little more gear or you actually like how it digs I didn’t feel

Like I needed more top end anywhere right here and it has plenty of acceleration coming up this right here yeah that’s when I noticed I wish it had more top end right right there right here kind of up the hill yep I didn’t feel it anywhere over here but this is

Very tight you know there’s not really an opportunity to like really open it up this was smooth enough and long enough that I was like oh man I wish this thing had more top speed like 5% grade or something yeah you just want to keep pulling nice dirt good grip y makes

Sense yep absolutely here’s a little background about this phase and the overall approach from the dust Moto CEO himself Colin Godby yeah so we’re out here testing the alpha prototype it’s part of a multi-step development program that we’re running it’s important that start early and get the bike on the dirt as

Soon as possible we’re running design build test and learn Cycles as soon as possible we want to test our hypothesis about the kind of bike that we’re building so it’s essentially a proof of concept stage now we want to check the ergonomics the hard points the rough power to weight ratio you know

Suspension KX those sorts of things so we can take that back to the design phase and we can make improvements along the way we’re taking this open model where we really share what’s happening because we think it’s unique opportunity to talk to our customers let them know

How a bike might get developed and even provide input see what they like and and tell us what we shouldn’t do and what we should do you know we’re stoked to have Riders like Tucker it’s it’s Amazing these current Alpha specs will most definitely change as the bike develops but we’re sure you’re interested to know exactly how the alpha build is currently set up it’s got a custom 72 volt nominal 39 amp hour battery that is juicing a silx con SL controller running 200 nominal and 350

Peak phase amps to a Qs 165 V3 motor which is resulting in 25 Kow of peak power and roughly 15 KW of nominal power the bike has a WP 43 mil Fork made it to KTM Free Ride exe triple clamps in the rear it’s got an ol in shock side sized

For a Yamaha YZ85 it’s got a 21-in front and a 19-in rear wheel all of this is bolted to a custom steel frame with an aluminum subframe and swing arm and the bike is covered in custom machined ABS Plastics so that’s the first look at the

Dust Moto model 1 Alpha Build we’ll have a lot more to document on this project as it progresses so stay tuned for that and thanks for watching in

The Model 1 is Dust Moto’s first electric dirt bike and this is the first generation, or alpha build, of the Model 1.

Whats unique about Dust, is that they are being very public about their process developing this motorcycle.

These current Alpha specs will most definitely change as this bike develops, but we’re sure you’re interested to know exactly how the Alpha build is currently set up:

It’s got a custom 72 volt nominal, 39 amp hour battery that is juicing a Silixcon SL controller running 200 nominal and 350 peak phase amps to a QS 165 v3 motor – which is resulting in 25 kW of peak power and roughly 15 kW of nominal power.

The bike has a WP 43mm fork mated to KTM Freeride EXC triple clamps and an Ohlins Shock for a Yamaha YZ 85.

It’s got a 21” front and 19” rear wheel.

All of this is bolted to a custom steel frame with an aluminum sub frame and swing arm, and the bike is covered in custom machined ABS plastics.
