Should you buy a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle?

Welcome to Mobility Insider I’m your host marttin hesb today I want to talk to you about plugin hybrids and explain the pros and the cons so you have an idea whether a plugin hybrid might be the solution for you on the positive side with a plin hybrid you get the best

Of Two Worlds you have an electric car so you can drive off in the morning without making any engine noise you can drive through towns at night and secondly you also have the much better range in a pluckin hybrid because if you go on a long trip you can actually just

Stop and fuel the car with petrol and you move on to a destination where hopefully you can charge your plin hybrid so with a plin hybrid gone is the range xiety if you often have long trips more than 1,000 kilometers or so or you drive through the night a blocking

Hybrid will give you the best of Two Worlds you can drive electrically and of course you can drive using the petrol engine and you still have that oldfashioned feel of driving a car with a combustion engine which many people still like a further benefit is that you have two powertrains you have an

Electric motor and you have the petrol engine in this case and combined they will give you additional power because they will be boosting and helping each other propelling the vehicle so you have a better more sporty car a faster car there may be tax incentives in your

Country that will make the car cheaper to buy actually than a normal petrol engine car and that may be another reason to buy it on the flip side however you have a higher purchasing price you have a higher weight and because of that you have a higher fuel

Consumption as well in addition to that having a plugin hybrid will give you higher maintenance cost because you have to service both the electric Elric powertrain and the ice powertrain so you will still have to change fluids you still have to take the car to service and because of the higher weight you

Also have more wear and tear on your brakes and tires it will always be more expensive to run and maintain than a normal petrol engine vehicle or a battery electric vehicle thank you for watching Mobility Insider if you like the video please give me a like if you

Could a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle be right for you?

Many customers would agree that the future of mobility is electric. But not everyone is ready to go for a fully electric vehicle (BEV) just yet, maybe because of lack of charging options in their area or because they prefer the characteristics and benefits of a combustion engine for longer trips.

Plug-in Hybrids give you the best of two worlds and they remove the range anxiety often connected with a BEV because you can always just fill the tank with petrol.

And the combination of the electric motor and the combustion engine gives you higher power and better acceleration, too.

But a Plug-in Hybrid will be more expensive to run, as wear and tear on tyres and brakes, as well as service/maintenance cost are typically much higher for a Plug-in Hybrid than for a BEV (see indexes below).

Typical service/maintenance cost indexes are:
100 for a BEV
142 for an ICE car and
156 for a Plug-in Hybrid
Depending on make/model – this example is based on 80,000 km over three years for a Peugeot 308, indexes correct as of Jan 30th, 2024.

But for many customers the benefit of the Plug-in Hybrid outweighs the higher cost. So, could a Plug-in Hybrid be right for you?
