Electric Cars

GOVMENT sets the record straight on EV FACTS.

GOVMENT sets the record straight on EV FACTS.

Hello and welcome to video number two today uh I’ve just done the fact that the Lords are call not the Lord himself that he’s not bothered about electric cars the Lords are concerned about misinformation in electric cars and so the government uh in their Infinite Wisdom have put out this from the office

Of the office for zero emission Vehicles right I love that we have an office for zero Mission Vehicles we don’t have an office for red vehicles or yellow vehicles or BMW or Ferraris but we have an office for zero emission vehicles um guidance I’m going to wh through this

Quite fast the links are in the description as well so this is essentially the government saying here are the facts don’t read the misinformation don’t watch YouTube videos don’t talk to people that actually own electric cars just read the facts from the government we are right

And the only place you need to go for information is the government sounds a bit 1984 doesn’t it right so electric vehicles cost charging and infrastructure the transition to EVS is a crucial step towards achieving the UK’s Net Zero Target I’m not going to go into that now watch my other video if

You want to see me rant about net zero this guidance provides information on EVs and EV charging infrastructure so subheading buying an electric vehicle while a new EV costs more to buy UPF front they’re admitting it today most drivers in the UK will buy their cars in the used Market industry intelligence suggests

That some EVS on the used Market are now similar price to their petrol and Diesel equivalents the number of used EV purchases have grown by over 50% when comparing the first quarter of 2022 to 2023 increasing the pool of used vehicles available so they’re saying

That you don’t have to buy a new EV you could buy one secondhand and you may get a bargain because they’re just as cheap as petrol or diesel the price gap for new cars has continued to decrease over the past few years according to Industry data the purchase price for a premium EV

Relative to the equivalent internal combustion engine has dropped from 50% to 40% so they’re saying that in the old days to buy the same car as an electric one you had to pay 50% more and now that’s come down to only 40% strong buying advice here from the government with battery cost reducing

And continued Innovation some external forecasted that some EVS could be around the same price to purchase as petrol or diesel cars by the end of the 2020s um don’t know on that one are they I’m not seeing any major developments in the market uh if anything we’re going backwards many workplaces provide salary

Sacrifice schemes which can reduce the cost of purchasing an EV to support this company car tax is favorable for EVS at only 2% the government has confirmed that company car tax for EVS will increase 1% each year from 2025 to a total of 5% in in 2028 by contrast the

Most polluting cars will pay 37% company car tax in 2028 EVS are also exempt from vehicle excise duty Road tax until 2025 and will continue to receive favorable first year rates after this so the government is saying the main reason people buy electric cars is because they

Only pay 2% company car tax instead of 37% company car tax which is my why my best mate has got a Volvo XC90 hybrid that does 28 m to the gallon because it’s cheaper for him to run a car that does 28 mil to the gallon and

Therefore pollutes a lot more and uses a lot more petrol than his previous car which is which was a scoda superb diesel that did 60 m to the gallon this is maths ladies and gentlemen I am trying to get my way through the misinformation and give you only the facts from the

Government it’s better for the environment and cheaper for your pocket to drive a car that uses twice the amount of fuel welcome to 2024 in many cases an EV is cheaper to run than a petrol or diesel car with lower maintenance and repair costs a recently published independent research

Suggests an average saving of £700 a year I’ll note that they haven’t linked that in there because they know that I will tear it to shreds um I’m not going to talk about replacing batteries because that’s horrendously expensive and eating tires cuz those are expensive as well it’s predicted that someone

Buying a new EV next year will recoup the additional upfront cost within 5 years due to the lower running costs right but they paid 40% more even by your own admission uh owning an electric vehicle new subheading industry research shows that the vast majority of EV drivers are

Happy with their experience 85% so 15% hate the damn things and would recommend an EV to family or friends 83% so 2% of people who are really happy with their EVS would wouldn’t actually recommend one to family or friends zap map’s annual survey of EV drivers also

Indicates less than 3% would want to switch back to petrol or diesel vehicle I don’t believe that from talking to people right battery range 99% of car Journeys in England are under 100 miles most could be made by an EV without needing to recharge okay there’s a lot

Of stuff that they’re ignoring with that statement according to the Society of MOT manufacturers and Traders the average electric range for new EVS launched in 2023 was nearly 300 mil claimed range claimed that’s important for my next video that’s coming up later today compare with 210 miles in 20120

Some on the market have quoted have a quoted range of over 300 miles which is enough to travel from exited to leads there are now more than 30 models available with 200 mile plus range with battery costs falling around 80% over the past 10 years and further decreases expected the government damn government

You know the film um is it it’s not blood dime is it it’s Lord of War or is it Blood Diamond them government troops then government troop the government government the government government expects to see increasing numbers of EVS with higher ranges not withstanding that

A lot of those will be made in China recent data from the Automobile Association indicated only 2.3% of e callouts of the EV callouts received to the end of October 2023 were due to batteries having limited or no charge so they’re basically saying that don’t worry about the range there’s loads of

Cs available with loads of range and the AA say they don’t go to many people who have lost run out of range then they go into charging costs and say that the EV will benefit from significant savings on the cost of fuel uh it might do if you can charge at home

And if you can charge at your office but if you’re a real person who lives in a house that is say rented um it ain’t going to work for you charging at home and away most EV drivers char charge at home overnight the department for transports survey of electric or plug-in hybrid

Vehicle drivers found that almost all of them had access to home charging yeah but like I mentioned my mate with his hybrid Volvo he never plugs it in at home so on these government statistics he’s gone down as oh this is great we got one more person

In a hybrid one more person plugging in at home there’s so many company cars hybrid company cars being returned to the leasing company after 3 years is and the charging cable is still wrapped in the original plastic that it left the factory with it’s never been taken out of his

Packet uh in 2022 the government introduced regulations requiring the installation of Charing charging infrastructure uh so now they have to have charges at new homes and non-residential buildings and buildings undergoing major Renovations that’s going to bring in another 145,000 charge points so then it basically goes on and says don’t worry

There’s loads of charging points uh again you know batting back the misinformation of all the people that have been saying that there aren’t enough charging points like Lee the mmas who actually owns an electric car charging time the majority of EV charging is done on low power charge

Points or near home overnight while you sleep or are at work if you’re charging your car at work someone’s paying for that and that means there’s a knock on effect for the cost of the services that that company is offering is there uh which does not add any time onto your

Day thank you government for confirming that whilst I’m sleeping I’m not adding any time on my day well it does actually doesn’t it because it doesn’t stop time time doesn’t stop when you’re sleeping it’s just that you’re sleeping the inevitable March of time is something that cannot be stopped government or not

And speaking of the inevitable March of time I’d rather fill up my car for 4 minutes than 45 minutes uh but we’re getting on to that now when you need to charge on the go there’s an increasing amount of rapid and Ultra rapid charge points available uh charging is already

Available at 97% of Motorway service stations and the time it takes to charge a car will depend on the size of the car it doesn’t talk about money there does it it doesn’t talk about money at all because some of these charging places are ridiculously expensive um EV

Life cycle emissions this will be an interesting one over its lifetime a typical EV emits around 2/3 less greenhouse gas emissions than an equivalent petrol car even accounting for battery production and Disposal over time these emissions will reduced due to the government’s clearly stated ambition to decarbonize the power sector by 2035

By 2050 it’s estimated that an EV will produce 80% less emissions than an equivalent petrol vehicle um there are so many different studies on where the break even point is for the harm that is done to the environment by EVS versus IC and I’m not convinced either which way I still think

It’s better for the environment to keep your old car on the road because the most environmentally friendly car is one that doesn’t have to get built in the first place uh replacing and recycling EV batteries there’s 26 million EVS on the roads there’s no evidence to suggest that their lifespans are any different

From Petrol or diesel vehicles bollocks that is absolute bollocks do you know how I know go on auto trader and see how many old EVS you can find because you can find Nissan Leafs on there that only got 30 m battery range or 50 m battery

Range so they just do not last as long uh new regulations mandate the EV battery warranties of 8 years or so then the government is stepping in the government government are stepping in to make sure that new EV batteries have warranties of 8 years or 100,000 M but

Petrol and diesel cars have got more than that uh haven’t they I I don’t know I I wouldn’t buy a new car regardless of who was making it they’re all rubbish this is far longer than standard new petrol diesel cars with warranties of around 3 years that’s rubbish K have

Been offering a 7-year warranty for as long as I can remember I even copied their seven-year warranty sticker when I came up with the Jeff boys cars warranty sticker which I’ll put here government’s committed A500 to the Faraday battery challenge to support the research so basically taxpayer money is

Being spent on this Folly for the rich uh yada yada supply of EV batteries EV safety EVS are significantly quieter than petrol and diesel vehicles reducing noise pollution and providing an improved environment for drivers nobody mentioned EMF however the government is committed to ensuring future transport is safe uh multiple safety systems are

Designed into EVS to protect passengers such as the fact that you might have an electronic button to open your door and if it does go up and smoke you won’t be able to open it it has happened in many places um I’ve even been sent I didn’t

Do a video on it because it was just such a horrible story but I was sent a story from someone whose friend is a firefighter who had a pretty Haro experience with an EV that had gone off the road and caught fire and they couldn’t get the driver out cuz the

Doors wouldn’t open but the government says they’re safe then you get one more dead body instead of Aeroplane way forward grenade launchers using a trailer or Caravan with an EV I’m not even going to bother reading that section because you just watch the Youtube videos on it it’s just logic

Isn’t it if you attach more weight to the back of a car that car is going to consume more electricity demand estimate suggest that electrifying the vehicle Fleet could result in Road Transport making 15 to 20% they they don’t want to replace every single car with an electric car it’s blatantly obvious that

That is not the plan they just want to get you out of your vehicle uh the weight of EVS while EVS tend to be heavier than equivalent petrol or diesel vehicles on average Passenger cars have been increasing in weight for many years so basically they’re saying everyone’s

Getting fat so it’s okay but it’s not we want lighter cars we want simpler cars we want cars that are easier to maintain that last longer that’s why me and you and many other people prefer older vehicles hgvs are the key consideration in the design engineering of infrastructure rather than cars or Vans

Which are lights yeah electric hdvs are going to be be a disaster an environmental disaster an absolute environmental Dead End Electric hgvs if you’re a HTV driver tell me in the comments do you want an electric one hydrogen versus battery the government is technology neutral apart from uh being incredibly racist against internal

Combustion engines fuel cells produced the government welcomes sustained investment so basically it says um that hydrogen could work synthetic fuel based on carbon dioxide is of Interest in transport while synthetic fuel production for transport has been limited to date is now being actively encouraged with government policy so it

Goes on all of that all of those pages sorry for the long video we’ve got all of those pages that say electric vehicles are fantastic and here is the truth and then it concludes by saying actually alternate fuels and hydrogen could also be an option so why would

Anyone go invest all of their money in an electrical car that might become defunct in the coming years all the old people are turning up now to go for a walk uh none of them are driving electric cars actually what have we got we’ve got a fiesta a SE something beginning with a

Another Fiesta a scod Yeti and another Fiesta so old people’s just like fiestas why on Earth would Ford ax the fiesta it makes no sense so there we have it that is the government govern clamping down on misinformation around EVS so for my afternoon video I’m going to be

Documenting the work done by the Norwegian magazine that took multi a multi ude of electric cars to test their actual range against the claimed range because that is not misinformation it is simply facts quite why the government feels the need to get involved I have no idea I simply cannot be persuaded that

It is not part of some nefarious agenda just to stop us from going places let me know your thoughts in the comments thank you very much for watching and if I just talk for a little bit longer I can make this video Bang on 15 minutes but that’s

You can ignore that bit Jeff because you’ve already said that you’re going to do some editing so maybe it won’t be bang on 15 minutes but maybe it will maybe we will never know instead of Aeroplane Way Forward grenade launchers

The GOVMENT have spoken! This is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about EVs. Well, it’s one truth… And thou shalt speak no ill of the new document. Let’s dive into this one then…
