Charging at Home – 3 Facts you need to know

Don’t worry, this is not another one of those “How to charge my Mercedes-Benz”-videos. No, we are going to have a closer look at charging your electric vehicle at home, plus we are going to look very closely at future charging possibilities. Because those will open up a whole new dimension.

Tell me, do you already charge your electric vehicle at home? Let me know, drop me a line in the comments. Here is my favourite part about charging my vehicle at home. Once I am connected with the Mercedes me app, I can schedule my vehicle to charge until a certain time of day.

I always head out at around 9 and I can see it is time to go. So, let’s step out. There are even more cool features once you connect the Mercedes me app to the wallbox. You can see how much energy has already been charged into the battery,

And you can start or stop the charging process at any time with the app. It also shows you the charging costs so far, all in one single app without any need for another. Pretty cool. Here we are, voilà, our wallbox. There is one little detail I really like:

You can see the charging progress directly on the wallbox. Also, our wallbox is well connected. You can receive over-the-air updates, so you are always up to date with the latest wallbox features and functionalities. Here is something really handy with the app: If you live in a home with more than one family,

Then you can lock and unlock your wallbox in the app. Also with an RFID card, you prevent unauthorized charging. OK everyone, for this next fact, it is time for us to get inside. Here is one of the most exciting facts about charging in the future. Today, when we think charging,

We think about charging our electric vehicles only. That will change in the future, thanks to smart bi-directional charging. Your vehicle battery will be used to store energy that can then be used for your home or to flow back into the grid. For example, in the event of a power outage,

You can use your vehicle battery to power your home for up to one entire week, depending on the size of your vehicle battery and the state of charge. On the other hand, when there is an excess of energy, then you can use that extra energy

And allow it to flow back into the vehicle battery. It can also flow back into the grid in case of another scarcity. That is why it is called bi-directional. To me, that is the most impressive fact of all. That will make the entire charging cycle

So much more sustainable in the future to come. Let me know what you think. Share a note in the comments. Those were my highlights about home charging. Do not forget to like this video and subscribe on YouTube. Thanks and see you soon!
