The Ford Kuga Hybrid is a practical and spacious plug-in hybrid SUV that offers low running costs and decent driving dynamics. Under the bonnet is a 2.5-liter petrol engine paired with an electric motor and 14.4kWh battery pack, producing a combined 225hp. This allows for a 0-62mph time of 9.2 seconds and a top speed of 125mph.

On electric power alone, the Kuga Hybrid can travel up to 39 miles which is useful for short urban commutes. The official fuel economy is an impressive 201.8mpg with CO2 emissions of just 32g/km. However, these figures are only achievable if you plug the Kuga in frequently and do the majority of journeys on electric drive. For longer trips, economy will be closer to 40mpg.

Inside, the Kuga Hybrid provides a flexible and practical cabin. There’s plenty of room in the back seats and sliding rear bench allows you to prioritize legroom or boot space as needed. The boot capacity is 475 liters which is smaller than the non-hybrid Kuga but still sufficient for most needs. Cabin quality is generally good but some plastics look and feel a little cheap.

The Kuga Hybrid uses an older version of Ford’s SYNC infotainment system which includes a 8-inch touchscreen, sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s not as advanced as the latest SYNC 4 but it’s still easy to use. Standard safety equipment includes auto emergency braking, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control.

On the road, the Kuga Hybrid handles tidily for a mid-size SUV. The suspension delivers a comfortable ride and soaks up bumps effectively. Less positive is the brake pedal which can feel grabby due to the regenerative braking system. Despite its extra weight, the Kuga Hybrid remains decently agile through corners.

Overall, the Ford Kuga Hybrid combines low running costs with practicality and driving enjoyment. Just be prepared to plug it in regularly to maximize efficiency. Keen pricing also makes it more affordable than rivals like the Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid.
