Propella 9S Pro V2 Review: The Ultimate Affordable & Lightweight Commuter Bike

Propella 9S Pro V2 Review: The Ultimate Affordable & Lightweight Commuter Bike

This is the propella 9s Pro V2 in this comprehensive review I’m going to tell you everything you need to know if you’re considering this electric bike first we’ll dive into the components then we’ll get into some first-person riding footage and finally some third person riding footage we give

You the pros and cons of this electric bike but first let’s take a closer Look There are four things that make this bike unique first off it is lightweight it weighs just 43 1 12 lb though that excludes the fenders as well as the kickstand so we’ll add an extra pound secondly it’s propell is First Step through electric bike with an 18-in

Stand over height I want to show off the nice accessibility this Frame is ideal for Riders 5 fo3 up to 5 foot1 the we’ll put on the screen propel’s geometry chart so you can make the best decision for yourself because this does come in a

High step if you prefer but even as a 6 tall rider 32in inseam I can get full leg extension and of course if you’ve watched the channel for any length of time you know I’m going to recommend the step through third it has a torque sensor and finally it’s affordable also

Add I think it looks cool let talk price this electric bike is priced at $13.99 though as I record this it’s on sale for $12.99 which is a great deal for a torque sensor electric bike up-to-date pricing down in the description and if you use our link before you purchase

It’s a free and easy way to help support the channel so thanks for your support I want to dive right into the electrical components including the motor the controller the display and the torque sensor because they’re all made by a company called mice they have an R&D

Center over in Europe and on most electric bikes you’ll see kind of peac meal Parts maybe they’ll have a buang motor but then the display will be different these things all work together to create a great riding experience and the choice of these mice components also made it easy for propella because it’s

SGS certified to both ul2271 and UL 2849 so if you’re New Yorker you won’t have to worry and this is mice’s Hub Drive 350 W nominal 500 WS Peak power moving to the other components love to see hydraulic disc brakes these are Logan branded they are paired with smaller 160 mm rotors though

This is a lighter weight electric bike so I’m not as concerned that it’s not 180 plus this is a Class one electric bike so the top speed is 20 mph no throttle these are CST Brooklyn Pro 27 1/2 by 2 in wide Street tread of course the front wheel is attached with a

Through axle which I was happy to see instead of a quick release it’s more safe more precise and offers increased strength so besides undoing the lever you actually have to unscrew this if you’re not familiar with what a through axle is I think we’ll start seeing that more on electric bikes we’ve got

Propella signature blue wheels they also match those with locking grips in the cockpit and a blue seat as well more of a traditional bike style seat you get included plastic fender in the front as well as the rear in the front is a 40 Lux star union integrated headlight no rear light

Included though there’s basic cable management though the cables are integrated through the frame we’ve got the Logan hydraulic disc brake levers with motor cut offs and I’m really happy to see the adjustable stem so if you don’t want quite as an aggressive ride you can raise those up as I did the

Handlebars just have a slight swoop to them I had to move to some shade to better show you the mice display smaller on the left side power button on the top we’ve got battery capacity in the top leftand Corner 98% runtime miles hour large front and center pedal assist

Levels are changed underneath here pedal assist level one 2 3 4 and Max hitting the side button will change the information displayed at the top over to average speed Max Speed trip range total m mil and back to runtime now what’s really cool about the range estimate it

Doesn’t just take into account the pedal cyst level though it does do that but it also takes into consideration your current speed as well as how much torque you’re putting down to give you a more accurate range number thought that was pretty cool there’s also a push mode

Engaged by holding the pedal assist down button helps you when you’re walking your electric bike and on the right we get to test out shimano’s new Q’s ship shifter similar to the Altus trigger shifters Shimano wanted to simplify the lineup they also made some changes to the drivet train to

Make it better for electric bikes so I think that’s more for Mid Drive electric bikes but we do have nine speeds up here so this bike is lighter weight than most electric bikes how do they achieve that a smaller battery and yes a more efficient rear hub motor propeller did

Away with their more bottle cage style batteries and this one is nicely integrated I have the in it turn it to the right her to click there is a latch we’ll pull it down moving the front wheel can help you more easily remove the battery this is a

36v 9.6 a battery and again UL certified there’s an indicator on the end to give you an idea of battery capacity and it can be charged both off the bike right here put the battery back in simply insert the bottom with the notch here first and click into place don’t forget to

Remove the keys and the port on the right side has a rubber cover here bottle cage bosses on the SE tube be sure to check out shop. escape.com for the best water bottle cage on the market I’m not a huge fan of these Neco metal pedals looks like this might hurt the

Shin a little bit now that controller is going to be mounted right here very easy for maintenance Burley kickstand located out of the way of the pedals though Logan hydraulic disc brake in the rear there’s the mice 350 W nominal 500 W Peak Motor and a look at the Shimano Q’s

Rear derailer I expect we’ll start to see this on many more electric bikes in the near future and this is a Shimano cassette says link Glide right here which is supposed to be more durable again for electric bikes 11 to 36 teeth and again nine speeds and there is a

Single-sided 42 to front chain ring propella includes a clear protector here to keep your chain stay looking nice and the tires also have reflective sidewalls for increased visibility at night the seat post attaches using a Allen instead of a quick release slightly more security so that’s all the components

But more importantly how does the mice motor perform how’s the torque sensor feel let’s get into some firstperson riding footage all right let’s get into some firstperson riding footage first the nice step through frame super easy to hop on now this is a Class one electric bike which means a top speed of

20 mph while pedaling there is no throttle on this bike I have the speedometer app by cool NYX on my phone we’ll compare that to the display now given this is a lighter weight electric bike I did want to turn pedal assyst off so you can get a sense of what might be

Possible say you run out of battery or you just want to ride it around like a non-electric bike and nice leisurely Cadence just cruising fifth gear 9 mph of course course I can work a little bit harder and go a little bit faster 12 M hour feel a little bit in the legs

There but still this bike is lighter than most and has narrower tires so it rolls pretty nicely 13 M hour all right let’s go through the pedis levels so the important thing to note is this is a torque sensor which means the more power I put in to the pedals it’s going to

Amplify the power from the motor so what I’m going to do is I’m going to go through the various pedal assy levels I’ll do a nice leisurely Cadence and then I’ll put in more effort so you can get a sense of what you can expect if you are looking to purchase this bike

And I shift all the way down into first gear here and pedal assist level one and here we go now on pedal assist level one leisurely Cadence you can just barely feel the motor it’s also a very quiet motor should add that do need to shift up here second gear

Third again just spinning the legs nice and easily that most people would be able to do now I will say the Shimano Q shifter feels very similar to their other more entry level trigger shifters no problems with it and the display on a bright day if

The Sun is hitting the display it’s a little bit more difficult to see but fortunately the speed is pretty large so not terrible and of course that’s the same with any LCD screen on a electric bike pedal s level one let’s give it a little bit more here getting up to 10 11

Mph shift up to fourth gear so it doesn’t take much to get this bike going already very easily in the 12 mph Mark let’s go ahead and go into pedal level 2 now given it is a 350 watt motor you’re not going to feel like a huge difference between these pedal CIS

Levels of course there is a difference but it’s really hard to distinguish pedal Cy level 2 fourth gear able to cruise at 10 11 mph very easily still in fourth gear and of course if I give it a little bit more power 15 I’m going to shift up to fifth

Gear lots of people enjoying this path here 15 M an [Applause] hour we’ll go over this bridge here and let’s go into pedal assist level three nice leisurely Cadence 12 13 miles hour and of course the motor power is very responsive I can as soon as I take that

First pedal stroke I can feel the the bike giving me more power and able to get 18 M hour according to the display so very easy and I bet if I went in the six gear here and gave it some more power yeah 20 mph uh and still in pedal

Level three let’s slow down going into pedal this level four maybe shift back down to fifth gear here at least for a nice leisurely Cadence so and again it’s holding us at the 14 mph maybe a little bit faster than pedis level 3 but not significantly and of course this path is pretty

Flat and we all know if I put in the six and gives me some more resistance and the bike instantly I’m so far from getting a workout so pretty impressed with this motor of course you will want to take into consideration if you live in a significantly hilly area it’s

Probably still possible that this bike would do it you just shift all the way down use those gears put in Max mode of course you also want to be mindful of battery capacity all right now I want to do a test in Max mode so instead of five They have

Max so we’ll do that now and on this bike while it’s nice that it has NP speeds I don’t know if I’m even going to need to get close to using it at least for my preferred way of pedaling going to stay in six gear for

Now display is reading 14 mph GPS is catching up just a little bit and I’m just curious how much just a little bit more power we’ve got the wind coming at us now too I’m going to need to shift up here seventh gear and and yeah there’s 20

Mph so depending on your Fitness level it’d be pretty easy to hit the top speed just takes a little bit more extra power their to the torque sensors are really designed the bikes that they put torque sensors on are really designed for you to get a little bit of workout if you want

It and you just feel far more in control let’s do a test from a stop see how fast we can get to 20 M hour here all right first gear I’ll shift up really quickly and there’s 20 we’ll do a break test on these Logan hydraulic disc brakes though it is a

Lighter weight bike so I don’t expect any any problems all right here we go right at that sign I’m going to slam on the brakes being careful not to lock up the brakes so I had no problem with stopping power they feel pretty good too I did see a path up

Here little bit grally hello this guy was on it with thinner tires so I guess this is a packed sand Trail and while these tires are definitely smooth this bike can still handle it want to be mindful of any loose sand of course cuz it’s easy to

Lose traction on really any bike even something with Nai tires this area of Florida is just phenomenal for biking we’ve been enjoying it quite a bit but let’s get into some third person riding footage I’ll give you my concluding thoughts on the propella 9s Pro V2 we really need companies like propella who

Focus on lightweight or let’s call it relatively lightweight ebikes batteries and motors are heavy after all it’s probably the most overlooked Factor on those new to ebikes lighter is good for accessibility but you know what’s even better a step through and Propel us first this is probably the thing that

Ties all the other things that makes this ebike compelling together and a high step is available if you prefer so this ebike is undoubtedly easier to handle it’s got a low step through and gentle power delivery that’s great for those who want to cruise on flat ground

That’s helped by the torque sensor of course and for those who maybe already tackle Hills on non-electric bikes the gearing again nspeds and the 500 W Peak Motor is going to give you that extra oomph to get up hills and arrive at your destination faster and less sweaty if

You want to the price especially when on sale is a great deal considering what you’re getting here Link in the description for update pricing and to support our efforts at no cost to you thanks for your support the electronics powered by mice also felt a bit more refined than expected at this price

Everything from the torque sensor to the appealing but admittedly small display hydraulic disc brakes provide adequate stopping power and the adjustable stem allows for a more relaxed riding position if you want it you could certainly add on sweat back handlebars for an even more upright riding position

I kind of wish that was standard but I realized that’s probably not propella core customer at least historically though hey propella if you’re offering a step through it’s something to consider just saying the Shimano Q’s shifter and derailer were nice to test out for the first time a refreshing change from the

Typical Shimano turning components we see and it functions perfect for recreational Riders let’s talk considerations and we’ll call them considerations because they aren’t necessarily bad things just depends on personal preference first no suspension which keeps the weight down next it’s a smaller 350 W nominal 500 W Peak Motor

So don’t expect crazy power this two cuts down on weight as does the smaller battery at 36v 9.6 amp hours and if I had my pick I would have preferred the battery to be topl load instead of bottom but it is SGS certified to ul2271

And and UL 2849 in part due to the mice electrical components choice there’s no throttle this is a Class one ebike so you should be prepared to Pedal this ebike you get an integrated front light but unfortunately no rear light assembly is pretty standard for direct to Consumer ebikes you’ll need to attach

The front wheel handlebars front fender though do keep in mind you’ll have to attach the seat to the seat post as well which is a small additional step I’ll add that propella is also us-based which is comforting and they’ve been around since 2016 which seems like forever ago

Compared to many ebike brands in the space their mission of bringing great design at an affordable price holds true with the brand new 9s Pro V2 if we’ve helped you make the decision to buy an ebike we appreciate it if you use our links down in the description before you

Make your purchase I think this ebike opens up propella to a whole new audience thanks to the step through but what do you think let me know down in the comments section below and we’ll see you in the next One
