Do You Feel Forced to Switch To Electric Vehicles? Tell Us – Manufacturers Are Backing Off Timeline
Welcome to the end of the hood show everybody this is our uh little blog that we do off the air sometimes and after the last week’s video we had about the update on the Ram trucks and the latest recall on there we found that all
Of you have a um some great opinions and some great answers and we value your opinions and the feedback we get from what you’re working on and what you actually see out there that’s how we learn besides what we learn in our own auto repair shop that we’ve been
Operating for over 30 years and hear from our half a million listeners or so on the end of the hood show my question this week is what’s your opinion on electric cars things are changing out there in the market as you know the government has been trying to shove electric cars down
Our throats that’s come right from the uh your opinions that’s that’s the way that you all have stated it out there and it seems that way they keep enforcing or not enforcing but implementing new um new policies that say we have to have so many electric cars by a certain
Time um you know emissions have to change all that stuff so we’ve seen a ton of companies out there throw electric cars in the market and whether you like it or not Tesla is the major name they’ve been out there a long time before there were any
People out there forcing them to do it they didn’t make money for a long time and people made fun of them and complained and said hey they’re never going to make it but the truth of the matter is when you look at what they’re making now how many cars they’ve made
How they’re doing it what their stock price looks like they’re making it when a lot of other people aren’t so you can throw us your opinion in the comments Below on that one because I’m sure everybody has a good and bad about Tesla but they were The
Originators now we have got all these OEM manufacturers out there you could pretty much name any car company and because of the new policy changes about electric cars they’re Throwing Cars out left and right at you to to buy electric buy our electric and and when you see those I mean look at
The stuff they the Ford Lightning they nicknamed it the range liar because the dash wouldn’t it wasn’t giving the true information about how much range you had as soon as you started loading that thing up all of a sudden you were empty and trying to find a place to plug it in
Now is it a nice truck yeah it’s great truck could it have better range it sure could could all the electric cars have a better range Yeah in our opinion we we think they definitely could uh you know there’s a few out there that do really well some specialty companies but
There’s others that that don’t do well at all I me what’s your opinion on on electrics if you own them we want to hear from people that own them and people that don’t own them I want to know what your perception is if you don’t have an electric car what do you
Think range is on one um would you ever consider buying one would you never buy one because of what you’ve heard do you know someone who actually has one that’s driving it every day or almost every day that has told you the truth about how it
Works and if you are a owner of electric cars tell us what you think I know we have a lot of people that have worried about the cost of repairs on batteries and justly so we have a a good uh friend of the show Paul over in Iowa who
Repairs Tesla batteries for a fraction of the cost of what it would cost if you take one of these into the dealers where you’re looking at you know over $10,000 to get a battery replaced in one of these which is nuts so logistically not everybody has a place they can get
Something repaired it’s going to cost a lot of money to repair some of these things on these cars but the big headline recently has been General Motors and to be fair it’s all of them but General Motors has said you know we’re going to go back to some
Plug-in hybrids you remember not too long ago just a few years ago where they said Mary Barra said our future is all electric we’re going to all electric cars it’s coming they set a timeline for it and they went away from they were the originator of the plug-in hybrid before
Toyota you remember the Chevy Volt with a V not the bolt which anyways the uh the Chevy Volt plugin it was a pretty decent car and you can still pick them up used and they run they they still run well they’re they’re a decent car we have had almost zero problems with the
Hybrid systems on those we put some radiators in them and a couple Transmissions but not a lot of stuff has gone wrong with those but now GM is saying well we’re going to introduce some models and come back and put some plug-in hybrids in there in between to
Fill the Gap what’s your opinion on plug-in hybrids what’s your opinion on hybrid cars I know in our own shop we see have literally seen thousands of hybrid cars come through our shop and we almost never do a hybrid repair on one it’s always brakes shocks tires struts we’ve done some
Transmissions radiators things like that but it is rare we’ve got our producer dug with a um a to Prius sorry about that uh and we’ve got Chris Carter our other host he has had two Prius his second one now is 300,000 miles on it the first one made it over 300 before
The transmission went out had zero problem with the hybrid system on those so overall our opinion of them is pretty low for repairs on the hybrid systems plus you can fill them with gas but we want to know we want to know all your opinions throw everything at us about
Electric cars and plug-in hybrids that you can think of and let us know because we’re we’re very interested what the public has to say because in our opinion The public’s not ready for all electric cars the infrastructure is not there we want to know what you think about all the mining
That has to be done to get batteries lithium and and everything else all the precious metals that have to be mined for these are we ready for that are we ready to start you know what’s the pollution level for uh binding and to get electric cars on the road if it’s
Supposed to be that good for the planet really is it by the time you’re done mining everything and building these cars and you create the pollution to build a pollution free vehicle is it pollution free that’s something we want we we want your opinion on it we we know
From our research we’ve been to seminars and we’ve looked at these cars ourselves we’ve had them in our shop we’ve listened to hundreds of you with calls over the years but we want to know what what you’re thinking about um about the electrics and and the hybrids what you think the future is
What we’d like to see and I’ll leave you with this we would like to see more plug in hybrids so you can get the extended range with a wider range of engines diesel powered hybrid diesel hybrid they’ve been doing in trains for years if you did a diesel hybrid in a car you
Could easily get a car with 75 to 90 m per gallon with a diesel hybrid uh how about a flex fuel hybrid never seen it done as far as we know but if you could do a flex fuel car and even run E30 in it uh an E30 flex fuel car
You could still get up there in the in the 60s to 75 maybe even 80 miles per gallon and have a renewable fuel in it so give us your opinion that’s just our our question for the blog this week throwing it out there let us know and if you
Wanted to ask your own car question any question at all right here at our under the hood show Channel at underthe Hood show you can ask us questions we’re live on the radio every week the three of us on here and uh we’ll answer any car question you have and it’s free or
Double your free back take care everybody and we’ll see you on the next episode of under the hood
What are your thoughts on Hybrids VS Electric Cars VS Gas? Manufactures are rethinking the totally electric timeline and filling in with Hybrid Vehicles. People are just not buying them as fast as many hoped they would. What are your thoughts on all electric cars and trucks? Do you want Electric Vehicles? Are we ready for Electric Vehicles? There is the pollution aspect and infrastructure to think about. Keep in mind the lithium Battery Recycling Facility in France that just burned releasing tons of poison gasses. What about being forced to switch to them through less and less gas- and diesel-powered offerings? Is Tesla still the king of Electrics? What are your thoughts on Hybrid Vehicles? They have been around for decades. Do you think that they are just as good and reliable as a gas only vehicle? Do you own a Hybrid or totally electric vehicle? We will share our thoughts on All Electric Cars and Trucks and Hybrid Electric vehicles as well as what we would like to see in the future and now. Leave your comments for discussion and your thoughts below. Thanks for watching Under The Hood! PS. Have you seen the crash test videos of electric vehicles crashed into guard rails? Their low center of gravity coupled with their heavy weight has cause many to rip right through the rails. And, for you with a state that charges a set fee for owning an electric vehicle because you don’t pay fuel tax. Well, there is that too. Lots of things to consider.
