The 2024 Honda Prologue Elite Is A Handsomely Styled EV With Ample Range & Tech
When it comes to hybrid electric vehicles Honda has long been considered a Pioneer in the industry for well over 20 years however if you were looking to buy a fully battery electric vehicle this is where the company has seriously lagged behind industry leader like Tesla for example however for 2024 that is all
About to change because Honda is finally ready to be taken seriously in the electric space with it starts with the introduction of this 2024 Honda prologue this is the Brand’s first ever fully electric battery battery SUV and with up to 29 6 M of range a starting price of
Around $47,000 and an interior that has roughly the same amount of space as the Honda Passport this should be a nice addition into Honda’s new SUV family so today we’re actually out here in Napa California to finally get behind the wheel of the all electric prologue and
The big question i1 answered for those of you who have been wanting to go fully electric but you had to buy something with a Honda badge was the wait for the allnew prologue worth it stay tuned to find out so if you guys watched our first look
Video of this car back in the studio around 5 months ago you’ll remember that I told you that this vehicle shares a platform of course with the General Motors ultium architecture which means if you guys have seen the Chevrolet Blazer EV the Cadillac lyric for example
The prologue and its twin the ZDX the acur version basically are the same vehicle but before we talk about the exterior styling changes let me go ahead and pop the hood because it’s something I couldn’t do in the studio and show you guys once underneath here now just like
On the lric and in the Blazer EV there is no frunk in fact this one here is a very early pre-production model so I’m not entirely sure if there’s supposed to be a cover covering up the front electric motor that you can see uh but while we’re underneath here you can see
I am disappointed that there is no frun it seems like there could be space for one but in terms of packaging it seems like General Motors didn’t want to include one uh for this particular architecture but while we’re underneath here let’s go ahead and talk about the powertrain specs because earlier uh back
In the studio we didn’t have all the final figures Honda will essentially offer this vehicle in two drivetrain configurations they all use a an 85 kwh battery pack so it’s technically the smaller battery pack versus the 102 Kow battery pack that you can get in the ZDX
Or the blazer for example and you can take your pick between either a single front electric motor which offers around 212 horsepower 236 pbet of torque or the elite trim which will be coming standard with the dual motor setup so now we have up to 288 horsepower we have 333 lb-ft
Of torque it’s got dual motor electronic all-wheel drive it all goes out through a one-speed reduction gear transmission uh Honda says that this model here is good for around 271 miles of range now if you guys want more range you can go for the single motor and ex that’ll do
Up to 296 uh the models with the 19-in wheels so you have to basically downgrade from the elite will have around 281 mies of range uh Honda doesn’t claim a 0 to 60 time but it should be around the 6C range this vehicle also will tow a maximum of 1500
Lb it should have a top speed of around 118 mph so again pretty quick for an electric SUV but not going to be as fast as something like a Ford Mustang Mai EGT performance or a Tesla Model y performance Towing is a little bit of a sour point because this vehicle here
Will only tow a maximum of 1,500 lb which is not a lot uh and that’s because of the smaller 85 Kow battery pack as this vehicle sits it weighs in at around 5400 lb so again heavy electric SUV now you guys are probably also wondering where do you charge the car Honda puts
The charge port door over here on the driver side fender and as you can see this model here being a 2024 version has the older j1772 plus CCS combo so you have standard DC fast charging in this vehicle Honda says this model will accept up to 150 Kow of Max DC fast
Charging that’s good if you guys can find a level three to add around 65 M range in about 10 minutes it has an onboard charger of around 11 12 Kow so basically on a level two you can charge this vehicle up in probably around 10 hours to go around 273 mil of range
Which is a pretty good range figure Honda basically says it has the most standard range in the segment at 296 but at 273 for this model here it does have a little bit more range versus something like the Hyundai ionic 5 or kia ev6 for example but the Tesla Model y long range
Is going to have more range versus this car but let’s go ahead and close up the hood and talk about the exterior styling now first of all this color is called Northshore Blue Pearl it’s essentially the Halo launch color for the new um Honda prologue and it’s definitely
Gorgeous when I first saw this color out in the studio it definitely looks even more impressive and just beautiful out on you know this beautiful sunny day here in Northern California the front fascia of this car shares a lot of design cues of course with other latest
Honda products they kind of wanted to keep this simple sophisticated but also very stylish so you can see no Grill on this vehicle here you can see it’s just kind of like a got a blacked closed off bar um all prologs will come standard with full LED headlights you can see it
Includes an LED daytime running light LED low and high beams you also get LED fog lights if you guys go for the touring Trims and up you can see down here there are some functional openings here some fake or some non-functional openings of course you have uh an actual
Camera over here for the front camera system this this car is going to give you a full 360 camera and then you can see on this model here there’s like a little bit of a skidplate a skidplate look uh on the front fascia which definitely gives this car a really nice
Kind of Neo rugged design thing that’s what the Honda at least likes to call the design of this actual vehicle now moving around the side profile you can see uh this is a midsize SUV and it’s kind of going to play you know side by side with the Honda Passport because
This vehicle shares an architecture of course with the ultium platform so if you guys know the size of like the Chevrolet Blazer EV the prologue is going to be around the same at 192 in overall it’s about the same size as the Honda Passport this does have the
Longest wheelbase that Honda has ever put on a production car at 121.8mi aerodynamics now looking at the wheels if you guys go for the lower trims the exer touring you’ll have a smaller 18-in wheel on a 255 series Tire the elite has the biggest production wheels that Honda’s ever put on an SUV
It’s a 21-in wheel of course it’s Honda’s own design uh it’s riding on a 275 uhx 45 r 21in tire so again really big fat meaty tire that gives it uh a really nice stance you can see the wheels themselves I like the design with the six spokes with the two the two-tone
Machine uh and black inner spoke design it’s got a six lug design because remember this is built off of a fully dedicated battery electric architecture and the Blazer EV has just under 8 in of ground clearance so I suspect the prologue will probably have something similar you can see the wheel Arch trim
Here is gloss black painted it looks really nice with the NorthShore Blue Pearl uh I think this is definitely the color to get if you guys want your prologue to stand out the most you can see the mirrors electrically folding they have integrated turn signals along with cameras uh you have black painted
Uh door handles black window trim uh black color for the aerodynamic roof rails which by the way panoramic sunroof is standard if you guys go for uh the touring trims and up the ex does not come with a sunroof but I love the fact that Honda does give you an actual panel
Roof it really uh lets in a lot more light into the cabin and then looking at this area here this is where the prologue kind of reminds me a little bit of like a Range Rover Evoke or Range Rover of aara I think it’s a really attractive looking design I mean
Compared to its platform mates like the Blazer e or the lyric I think the prologue has probably the most conservative design but I also think that this is also going to age the best now looking at the rear you can see it has some new styling elements here uh
Such as the Honda brand kind of spelled out across the back as opposed to the H logo the actual script characters of the Honda brand actually kind of hearkens back to earlier Hondas back uh back in the early 90s with the way the uh the font looks you can see tail lights full
LED you have their new Honda e badge there of course if you guys are wondering this is essentially a new badge that’s going to be on all their battery electric vehicles moving forward the company is working on their own fully dedicated battery electric vehicle that will be ready sometime time in late
2025 is a 2026 model you can see down here you can uh there are some nicely integrated parking sensors its own unique rear rear bumper design obviously this is an EV so no exhaust tips whatsoever you can also black out the badging back here Honda will offer essentially an accessories package where
You can do blacked out badging along with different Wheels a different Grill uh the spoiler back here is pretty uh nons super like functional it’s just kind of there it doesn’t really have a sculpted design I also like the fact that they’ve included a rear window
Wiper a lot of EVS are kind of getting rid of that overall uh functionality now looking at the cargo area you can see uh the prologue definitely has a good amount of space but if you guys are coming from like a passport for example this is where this EV architecture kind
Of shows its weaknesses in terms of packaging now first of all you have a pretty decent amount of space here around 25.7 cubic feet of total storage space no frunk as I said Honda says you do get another like .5 cubic feet of space underneath the floor here so you
Can see that’s pretty deep you can put uh something like the mobile charger for this vehicle and if you want to fold down the second row seat says that it’ll expand the cargo out to around 57 cubic feet of space that cargo figure is slightly less versus what I just showed
You guys in the Blazer EV there’s no third row in this vehicle uh but also keep in mind if you guys are coming from like a CRV or a passport the prog does have less space and that’s because of the battery pack taking up space in the actual
Interior so while the outside of the new Honda prologue basically looks like every other Honda vehicle at least it’s part of the Honda family the interior is definitely going to remind you of a mixture of General Motors and of course Honda right from the moment you open the
Door you guys heard that GM bong I was hoping that Tonda would have changed it but again you would only really notice that if you guys are constantly in and out of different brands of vehicles now before we get inside let me show you guys the door panel here you can see the
Uh upper door panel on this model here has a nice soft touch injection molded plastic you can see the two-tone look of this interior is carried over with the brown on this portion of the door panel there’s some piano black trim the window controls they one touch up down for the
Front windows for the rear they only one touchdown these are GM switch gear along with the GM door handle you have um two person memory seats over here the driver seat here is a 10-way power adjustment it’s an eight-way on the passenger side and these seats are heated and ventilated this brown color
Is only available on the elite trim so if you guys like this color combination you have to go for this top trim now let me go ahead and get inside uh and show you guys the rest of this cabin now as I get in it has a nice easy steping height
Because this vehicle should have just under 8 in of ground clearance as I shut the door the door has a nice solid sounding thk which adds to that impression of quality now here’s an area that I didn’t get to show you guys before the key fob for the car you can
See if you guys have seen some newer Chevy GMC and Bui products this is obviously a GM key with a Honda logo on the back which is a good or a bad thing depending on how you feel about platform sharing you can see it has usual buttons
For lock unlock uh remote start you can open up the trunk and panic this car also has a phone or is a key a key card that you can use on the elite trims Honda also gives you the ability to use a little credit card side key credit
Card sized key to basically access the vehicle that’s only on the elite trim when you start the vehicle up and turn everything on uh you can see Honda has kind of disabled this model here to not shift into uh or shift out of park but
You can see there’s the GM bong if you guys are used to GM products you’re going to feel right at home if you guys are coming from like a Honda Passport or a Honda CRV this is going to feel very very strange to you now I want to point
Out a couple things now that we’re looking at the dash first of all the dash design is Honda’s own design you can see it has the signature horizontal vent that goes along the side of the dash or goes Ong the middle of the dash it’s got some piano black trim it’s got
Some nice leather stitching or leather material here on this portion up here it is a soft touch injection molded plastic which is nice uh and then the steering wheel you can see this is technically a general motor steering wheel again this is kind of shared with the Chevrolet uh
Blazer EV but you can see it has the Honda Logo there and the airbag cover kind of reminds me of a Honda product as well which doesn’t surprise me CU it’s got the Honda Logo in here the logo itself kind of reminds me of the older Hondas from like the pre-2000 era uh
Because it has the black background on the inside side it definitely still is a very Nic looking wheel it’s got you know a thick Rim it’s got contrasting stitching this wheel is also a heated wheel uh you have manual tilt and telescoping adjustments so it gives you
A good amount of adjustability uh you have a little paddle here for the regen uh the max regen braking you have controls here the controls that 11 point or that 11in screen over here which is standard and then you have an 11.3 in touchcreen over here which has Google
Built in remember this is Honda’s first SUV with Google built in and unlike the GM products this vehicle here does have wireless Apple carplay and Android auto so you can see there’s the Google Maps pulled up right now this actually does have navigation route planning if you
Guys put in destination it’ll route you along Chargers along your way and then if you click that you can see there’s my phone connected via the Wireless Apple carplay uh the screen itself good resolution and quality it’s relatively quick and snappy although I did notice there were times where like right now
It’s kind of lagging and now the screen has decided to freeze on us so we’ll come back to that later on hopefully uh it’ll unfreeze itself this model I want to also point out is a very early uh pre-production car now you can see over here the screen in the instrument panel
Uh I like how you know Honda kind of gave it its own design where it’s kind of freestanding there’s no binacle it’s a a little bit different versus what you find in this car’s other platform mate the ZDX where it has kind of a binacle that covers the screen um the gear
Selector is right here you kind of kick down to go into drive pull it up to go to park and then push this button to go to to to go to reverse and then push this button here to go to park uh which is definitely you know relatively easy
To use the turn signal stock and switch gear here again is all General Motors and then when you look over here I love the fact that Honda still includes actual buttons so that’s something that a lot of these other brands are doing away with you have actual knobs here for
Your uh dual zone climate control you have an actual volume knob which is nice and you have traditional buttons here for your heated and your cooled seats the cooled seat function is only if you guys go for the elite trim the other trims will have a heated seat um this is
The only trim to give you the cool seat functionality you have a power outet here you have two USBC charging ports I love this this big kind of area here where you can put the key you can put phones you can put like loose items and
It also includes a non-slip area I also liked how Honda didn’t put um piano black plastic trim here instead we have like a low gloss design you have cup holders here and then wireless phone charging pad com stand here you can see this very much is a GM designed wireless
Charging pad padded center console area here and then if you open this up you can see pretty deep center console storage um there’s no USB charging in here it’s on the dash but again all pretty much very usable storage uh which is pretty nice uh the screen has decided
To come back thankfully so there are a couple of things that you can do you can actually interchange the ambient Lighting in this interior which is definitely uh nice you can see Honda offers it looks like 10 different colors to choose from you can also link into
The drive mode uh going back to the GPS display there you can see it’s all relatively quick and snappy uh and then you can see here the software behind this is clearly clearly Google it’s clearly GM’s design so if you guys are coming from like a pilot or a passport
This is going to look completely different but because it’s got Google built-in you can do things like Okay Google find me the nearest Starbucks okay there’s a Starbucks 2.9 miles away navigate to that one no so as you can see the voice commands work really well and I think a lot of
People are going to just appreciate the overall design and look of this uh system here uh in terms of every other controls there are a couple of controls over here there’s a sport button here that basically puts this vehicle into a sport mode that gives you maximum acceleration surprisingly only the elite
Trim comes with the sport button so if you guys are looking for you know best or quickest acceleration best handling for some reason Honda only puts it on this top trim you also get a heads up display as well that’s included if you guys go for the elite trim again no
Other trim has that feature so there’s a reason why you want to go for this and then if you guys go for the touring Trims and up you’ll also get a 12 speaker premium Bose sound system and Honda says that they worked very closely with bows to ensure that the sound
Quality uh works really nicely with the overall harmonics of this interior uh in terms of the seats let me go ahead and briefly talk about that you can see the seat design is very similar to what I just saw in the new Chevrolet Blazer I like how they’re heated and cool the
Leather itself is real leather but it could be a little bit softer not really much in terms of aggressive bolstering um so these are you know designed to be more Comfort oriented versus holding you in you know in place during aggressive driving uh you have a glove compartment
Here you can see is a bin style it’s damped but not lined with f it’s actually a pretty uh decent size for those of you who need to store your knick-knacks and whatnot above me here you can see um if you guys go for the touring trims up you’ll get this massive
Panormic glass sunroof now the sunroof does have a retractable shade and it also will slide open entirely to vent air that’s a feature you typically don’t find in some competitors so it’s nice to see that Honda uh and General Motors is including kind of this opening and
Closing uh sunroof where you have a retractable shade as well there’s kind of like a cloth material for the headliner but overall the interior does feel pretty high quality GM in general does pretty good quality stuff I like how Honda kind of threw in their own mix
Uh with the interior design and the way you have the dashboard set up to kind of mimic other Honda products but overall if you guys aren’t used to General Motors products you’re probably going to get in here and be a little bit confused but overall I think Honda and GM did a
Pretty good job with the interior design now moving to the back seat of the new prologue because this car has that really long wheelbase around 122 in long it does give the prologue among the best in terms of rear seat space in fact the prologue in general is more of a midsize
SUV but it also competes along the lines of the compact electric SUV segment because of the price of this vehicle now as you can see once I get inside this vehicle you have a pretty good amount of leg room Honda doesn’t have a final leg
Room figure yet but we do know the leg room of the Blazer EV which is around 39 and 12 Ines of leg room you can see I have plenty of room to stretch out there’s good foot space underne here the floor is almost completely flat uh which
Is nice because it’s a dedicated EV architecture you have rear seat air vents here there’s a little bit of a storage cubby here which I suspect that probably could have been for its own kind of zone for the climate controls you have an actual power L here two USBC
Charging ports and then you can see you have two storage Cubbies over here now in terms of the door panel materials you can see sadly this is a hard touch plastic material so it’s not quite as nice as what you get on the front seat
Area I do like how Honda is kind of carried over the um leather the brown leather onto the door panels as well in terms of the Headroom space you can see for somebody my height if I lean back this Pano sunroof obviously takes up space my head is coming very close to
The roof now Rob who’s behind the camera is like over 6 foot his head hits the ceiling when he sits back here so that’s something to keep in mind you also do have the ability to slightly recline this seat which you can kind of just do one little Notch it’s nothing super
Fancy the seat itself is also fixed you can’t slide this forward and back and then if you fold this down you can see there is an armrest that gives you two cup holders uh and the vehicle because it’s so wide you can probably easily fit you know an average size adult to kind
Of sit back here so you can actually sit three people across back here and because of the flat floor it’s certainly very usable the one thing I forgot to mention for those of you who are wondering how does this interior smell does it smell like a General Motors
Interior I have to say it doesn’t for me but it did when I first saw this car in this Studio about 5 months ago so I’m guessing it’s going to depend on which car you purchase off the assembly line but overall the back seat is certainly
Very usable and it does give you among the biggest size in the segment so the day has finally arrived we are behind the wheel of Honda’s first mass-produced all El electric SUV although I say Honda in quotations because obviously you guys know this vehicle is essentially a mechanical twin to the Chevrolet Blazer
EV some of you may have a problem with that some of you may not for me personally I actually really liked the way the Blazer EV drove so I think that Honda is starting off with a great platform and if you’re going to compare it to something like the Toyota bz 4X
Clearly the uh prologue has a lot more range a lot more performance uh better technology even perhaps so uh we’ll start off I guess with a very open mind because this model that we’re driving is the elite version it’s starting off with around 85% state of charge we’re showing
Around 235 Mi of range on this battery pack um so again this car is rated up to 273 and I imagine that uh on a full charge it should be able to get somewhat close to that but the first thing I want to test out is the 0 to 60 now Honda
Doesn’t quote a 0 to 60 time for this car um I think I got 5.8 seconds in the blast Blazer EV so we’ll see what we can get here on this stretch of road where it seems like it’s mostly straight put your foot down here floored it’s in
Sport mode right now which is making a unique sound but uh we just got 5.85 seconds which is pretty much exactly the time that I got in the all-wheel drive Blazer EV which is not a bad time I mean that that performance figure is going to keep
Pace or actually it’s going to be a little bit faster versus the all-wheel drive version of the bz 4X which I believe that car was like right around the same thing around 6 seconds I mean let’s be honest here you can get faster EVS like the Hyundai ionic 5 the Tesla
Model y long range Kia ev6 Mustang Mo E will be slightly faster but you don’t necessarily need it to be a lot faster I’ll be curious to drive the front front-wheel drive version which has 212 horsepower and almost 100 lb feet less torque uh but I think for those of you
Who have never driven an electric vehicle cuz Honda’s never really built an electric vehicle that uh had this much range or this much mass production you’ll be pleasantly surprised because again it has that trademark characteristics that you’re expecting from EVS with which means you have instantaneous acceleration and torque
Every time you put your foot down and this vehicle also has a one pedal drive feature I have it on its high setting right now so it will basically slow the vehicle down to almost a complete stop and then you put your foot down it’s just Instant Power and it feels good uh
This car definitely feels faster than its numbers would suggest I also like the sound that it’s making in sport mode uh it where again it’s kind of creating this spaceship sound effects that sounds pretty nice now you can you cannot turn that uh to a different tone
And whatnot but you can you know turn the the noise to a little bit softer noise when you take it out of sport mode and out of sport mode you can notice it definitely isn’t quite as loud um but I definitely prefer it in sport for some reason however Honda basically only
Gives you a sport button over here to the side uh and you basically turn it on or off I don’t really see any other means in terms of you know Drive modes at least not for my initial first drive but just sitting here on this uh Highway
We’re just North of San Francisco well it’s about 2 hours North of San Francisco in Hillsburg I’ve been to this area this part of California before I really lucked out with the weather usually the weather here is crap uh every time I’ve been here it’s been cold
And rainy and windy not today as you can see we’ve got beautiful sunshine uh and just the perfect testing conditions because it’s like maybe 70° outside right now uh and it’s just absolutely beautiful and let me tell you first thing first things first a lot of electric vehicles they they tend to have
Like a heavy feel to them because of that heavy battery pack that weighs down the car uh the prologue definitely has that same feeling however with the 21in wheels and the way that Honda has tuned the suspension because Honda Engineers were very quick to point out that they
Are the ones who set up the chassis Dynamics for this car the handling the suspension the ride and all that stuff so they wanted this to feel like a Honda and does it feel like a Honda the short answer for me is no it feels like a more refined vehicle because Honda’s never
Done a fully electric vehicle uh with this much power you can also can easily instantaneously pass people if you’d like just by putting your foot down um and this car has a really nice ride quality just like the Chevrolet Blazer EV which has one of the best ride
Qualities that I’ve sampled in this premium electric space despite the fact that this car also doesn’t have like adaptive dampers or air suspension it does that with a conventional steel suspension is very very impressive uh but the car just feels really premium it feels very solid it goes down the road
With very little fuss in terms of um noises in terms of you know shutters in terms of squeaks and rattles the car I’m driving is a very early pre-production car but it just feels really well made and that’s a great starting point because as you guys know General Motors
Put a lot of money and thought into the altm platform so it’s kind of a benefit for Honda to save on development cost at least initially because that while the company is working on their own dedicated EV architecture this definitely is an excellent stop Gap that’s going to help them get something
To the market about a year early so sitting here on the highway um cruising along at about 68 almost 70 mph uh the ride is smooth it’s very quiet in here very little road and wind noise as well which is good these seats the seats are clearly General Motors I don’t love the
Way they look I’m sitting in a one that has more of a black interior uh they don’t have really aggressive bolstering but you know it’s fine the seats feel comfortable they have a heat and cooled function uh you only get the cooled function if you guys go for the elite
Trim and not a single squeak and rattle despite the fact that that one the car that I’m driving is a very early pre-production car now the one thing that I wish that Honda would have you know been able to take from this partnership is uh General motors’ super
Cruise there is no form of super Cruise available on this car but you do have adaptive cruise and automatic emergency braking and Lane keep assist Honda still calls it Honda sensing even though it’s technically not their system but let’s go ahead and pass this other prologue
Here you can see it has very easy passing power so uh anytime you just want to go around somebody just put your foot down vehicle just accelerates really nice nicely with authority uh and it just it feels really good I like how it’s easy to drive you can see out of
The vehicle really nicely as well visibility out of the front and the side is really good um and it just makes for an excellent Highway companion car as well and also I we’ve got one here next to us right now and it’s a good looking vehicle I think Honda did a
Fantastic job with the styling of this car The Styling just really shows off the more conservative lines but I also think it’s a conservative design where it’s going to it’s handsome it’s going to age extremely well and uh people are going to kind of instantly recognize it
That it fits within the Honda family but um I’ll have to wait until I get one back home to do more extensive range testing on it to see what I can get back home in terms of of my 0 to 60 on my usual stretch of road um but you know
Right now in these perfect ideal conditions this is kind of the best part to best place to drive an e is in California but I’ll be curious to see when we get it out in cold weather to see what it’s like out in colder conditions um but overall I’m I’m
Relatively impressed I mean I was also really impressed with the way the Blazer Eevee drove compare this to something like the Hyundai ionic 5 however the INX 5 definitely feels more like a hatchback it feels like a smaller vehicle it almost feels like a step down versus
This car same thing with the Tesla Model y this vehicle you feel the size of this car now it’s not a bad thing it doesn’t feel cumbersome and difficult to drive it just feels more substantial it feels spacious in here um it feels a little bit more
Refined and I think that uh the technology and the way that Honda has kind of set this up with the 11-in display here you can see I’ve got Apple carplay that’s working perfectly although sometimes the occasionally the screen did freeze but again very early pre-production car um but overall I’m
Liking the the vibe in this car I’m just wondering if consumers who are you know been waiting for a Honda electric vehicle if they’re going to be able to get past the fact that this is a platform sharing vehicle with General Motors I mean obviously Honda kind of
Put their own touch on this car but it kind of gets me curious if you guys wait another year year and a half for the upcoming Honda derived e electric architecture should you work should you wait for that or should you just buy one of these now I mean clearly it’s all
Going to come down to probably your P your specific needs and if you need to get a vehicle now or if you want to take advantage of you know certain incentives right now but overall in terms of driving this thing is going to drive pretty much as nice as a lot of other
Electric vehicles but with the other with the caveat that this car does feel like a class above versus some of its Rivals so in the premium long range electric SUV space the segment continues to explode with new entries and really Vehicles like the Tesla Model y the Ford
Mustang Mach e the Hyundai ionic 5 have essentially shown manufacturers that there is a market for this type of vehicle there are consumers that want to buy this type of car because if you guys look at the king of sales the Tesla Model y Tesla did a little under 285,000
Units in the US which made it the best-selling vehicle in the segment all of its other competitors did around 10% of that number so after spending some time with Honda’s entry as you guys know Honda has a very big loyal following of fans and they’ve been waiting for an
Electric SUV I have to say after spending the day driving the prologue for those of you who essentially are looking for a premium midsize SUV something bigger versus your neighbors Tesla Model y the prologue is going to represent a nice option as you guys saw it’s got a bigger overall length around
5 to 6 in longer versus a Tesla Model Y which means it has a little bit more uh backseat space it has a little bit more interior space it doesn’t have quite as much cargo space uh and that kind of shows the packaging of GM’s Altium design but overall in terms of the
Driving characteristics if you guys remember my review on the Blazer EV this is going to drive very similarly 0 to 60 in the 6sec market has one of the best ride qualities in the industry Honda also says that their Engineers have tuned the chassis to deliver that sportiness that Honda you know Honda
Vehicles are known for and I think people who drive Hondas are going to really like the way this vehicle drives especially if you’ve never actually driven an electric vehicle and I know a lot of you are probably out there saying I don’t want to buy this vehicle because
It’s a GM it’s not necessarily a Honda it’s going to be built of course alongside uh other vehicles like the Chevrolet Blazer EV in Tennessee I believe uh and really if you guys can get past that you’ll recognize that GM actually has a really excellent architecture on their hands with the
Altum design because this has one of the best ride qualities it has relatively average charging speeds although some models of the ultium platform do charge a little bit faster this is again maxing out at 150 KW and in terms of the design I think Honda’s design team really
Nailed it in terms of the looks because this car definitely has a more conservative design that I think is going to age extremely well and Honda even tells us that in terms of production they’re expecting to be able to produce um probably after the first model year of sales around 70,000 units
Annually that’s what they’re targeting in terms of production capacity Honda actually also says that they had a early reservation program where they had around 10,000 people basically put down a deposit be an early handraiser for this car so there is a demand for this vehicle and I think for those of you who
Are skeptical about the GM Honda partnership you should know that Honda and GM has been working together for years and this is kind of going to be like a little bit of a stop Gap because while Honda is working on their own dedicated EV architecture I think for
Those of you who can’t wait and you want something that is going to also be competitive with a lot of other competitors out there the new prologue is definitely worth a look now if you guys are interested in purchasing this vehicle you’re going to have to wait
Until about March so you’re going to have to wait another month or so uh because Honda is continuing to try to ramp up production as quickly as they can uh and base pricing for this car is going to start at around $7,400 that is actually a lot lower
Versus this car’s platform mate the Chevrolet Blazer EV and if you guys are also looking at the ZDX the ZDX is going to be around $20,000 more that’s going to be a different review because it’s the Acura counter Port if you guys want to go for all-wheel drive it’ll cost you
Around $3,000 more so around $50,000 for an EX all-wheel drive version with around 281 Mi of range if you guys want the touring trim that’s going to get you the panoramic sunroof the leather seats the fog lights for example the upgraded bow stereo that’s going to cost you
Around 51,200 that’s for a front drive model add again $3,000 for all-wheel drive if you want everything the elite trim comes standard with all-wheel drive and all the bells and whistles like the heated and cooled seats for example that’s going to come in at around $57 900 plus destination this model here
With destination charge is just under $60,000 I know $60 Grand is actually pretty expensive especially if you’re comparing it to like a Volkswagen id4 a Tesla Model y a Hyundai 5 the prologue is a little bit more expensive around $5,000 more expensive but this is a slightly bigger vehicle a more
Substantial looking car and I also really like the design of this cicle so if that’s important to you the prolog should be worth a look I also want to mention that in terms of the tax credit as of this filming Honda says that they are working with the government to allow
This vehicle to qualify for the full $7500 tax credit they’re waiting to hear back about the battery mineral sourcing because this is built and assembled in either Mexico or Tennessee so it gets half the credit but we should know sometime by the time this vehicle goes
On sale if it’s going to qualify for the full tax credit of course you can always get around that by just leasing the car because of the leasing loophole but with all that said hope you guys have enjoyed my full overview on the brand new 2024
Honda prologue I also want to thank Rob from behind the camera cuz he’s always working so hard to help edit and shoot these videos if you’re also looking to see the latest cars I’m testing be sure to follow me on Instagram at Redline reviews like us on Facebook and as
