BMW Highway Assistant How-To: Hands-free Driving and Assisted Overtaking.

Enjoy assisted driving pleasure. The optional BMW Highway Assistant with Active Lane Change supports you on long trips and facilitates steering. driving at speeds up to 135 km/h or 85 mph. Go to “Driving Setings” – “Driver Assistance” – “Driving” – “Assisted Driving” to check if everything is turned on.

Depending on the model and equipment, “Active Lane Change” needs an active Route Guidance. While on the highway, turn on the Driving Assistants. And make sure to be in Assisted Driving Mode. Let´s go! Driving on the highway with your hands on the steering wheel and when all requirements are being met,

A display message offers you Assisted Driving Mode Plus. Now you can take your hands off the steering wheel and relax. Your BMW will assist you to stay in your lane

keeping the set Cruise Control speed and the set distance to traffic in front of you, as long as you watch the road attentively. In Assisted Driving Mode Plus you can even use the Lane Change Assistant without having to hold the steering wheel.

When a vehicle in front of you slows you down and the system detects that traffic allows it, a display hint informs you about a possible lane change. Simply look into the exterior mirror to check traffic as usual to confirm the Active Lane Change suggestion

The car will assist you in the lane change to overtake slower traffic. You can also trigger an assisted lane change simply by setting the indicator to the free adjacent lane. When you can get back onto the slower lane, another hint offers you to change lanes again.

Just look into the opposite exterior mirror and check the traffic on adjacent lane. Assisted Driving Mode Plus will actively assist your lane change.

Watch out! And be prepared to intervene at any time. For example when the steering wheel LEDs light up yellow and the yellow steering wheel symbol is displayed for example when manually exceeding 130 km/h or 85 mph. Immediately grab the steering wheel and take full control of the car.

🔵 Safety First
The system cannot serve as a substitute for the driver’s personal judgment in assessing the traffic situation. Based on the limits of the system, it cannot independently react to all traffic situations. There is a risk of accident. Adjust driving style to traffic conditions. Watch the surrounding traffic situation closely, be ready to take over steering and braking at any time, and actively intervene where appropriate.
