My name is Tanner fa I’m a brand ambassador for Volkswagen and we’re here in Aspen Colorado talking all things golf the golf has an incredibly storied history I mean this being its 50th Anniversary it started globally selling in 1974 we have a very special and unique Mark 2 golf here in Aspen which

Volkswagen used to attempt the Pikes Peak Hill Climb record back in 1987 it did use the 1.8 L engine but used two of them for of 640 horsepower it was an aluminum chassis a Kevlar body and in 2018 that Mark I was restored that we’re going to have that car here on display

And hopefully we’ll get to do some Laps on the ice so it’s been 50 years since the first golf was produced we’re in our eighth generation it’s the most popular name plate in Volkswagen with more than 37 million produced this year the golf is getting a facelift things like new

Head and tail lights a larger infotainment screen and hard buttons on the steering wheel the Golf R however is still the ultimate performance Beast with 35 horsepower all-wheel drive torque vectoring which was one of my favorite Technologies Volkswagen has come out with drift mode which can be a lot of

Fun on the ice and snow and we’re going to get some good use of it out here since the early 50s a unique race has been going on in zmc Austria called the fat Ice Race it went on Hiatus for many many years but pry portion reignited this 5 years ago in Austria

And for the first time ever this event is being held outside of Europe here in Aspen Colorado some of America’s greatest and most historic Porsches and Volkswagen will be out here uh racing including this Mark 8 golfar I had the pleasure of actually competing in this

In celebration of 50 years of Golf, VW Ambassador Tanner Foust put the Mk8 Golf R to the test at the first-ever F.A.T. Ice Race Aspen, securing the fastest lap time – in a stock VW.

Also on the ice was the storied twin-engine Volkswagen Golf racer that ran in Colorado’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 1987, plus a guest appearance by the 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI in striking camo. We couldn’t think of a better way to honor one of our most iconic nameplates than a bit of racing, history, and drifting on ice.
