The 2025 Hyundai Tucson Is A More Captivating Turbo Hybrid Compact Family SUV

The 2025 Hyundai Tucson Is A More Captivating Turbo Hybrid Compact Family SUV

It seems just like yesterday when Hyundai introduced the allnew fourth generation Tucson back in 2022 but I’m here on the show floor of the 2024 New York International Auto Show this right here is the extensively revised 2025 Tucson let’s take a first Look so when Hyundai introduced the allnew fourth generation Tucson this was a big deal for the brand because the Tucson has quickly become Hyundai’s bestselling model and made this new fourth generation model extensively larger and that really helped to improve their sales so as you can see this

Refresh refresh for 2025 is a pretty minor one but it also is relatively effective this particular one that I’m showing you here is the xrt trim which is the most rugged and off-road capable or at least off-road looking version of the Tucson and as you can see from the

Front end it has an updated look now you can see the corporate Hyundai Grill has been enlarged here you can see it still has that little integrated LED design with the daytime running lights it also has an LED daytime running light here it also has LED turn signals on this upper

Portion and you can see the headlights here are divorced from the actual running lights where you have an LED low and high beam it’s technically a reflector Style no LED fog lights in the vehicle but you can see the xrt has its own unique front facia with this kind of

Front end that tries to look a little bit more like an aggressive skid plate in general this vehicle has around 8.3 in of ground clearance and I don’t believe the xrt actually has physical skid plates so keep that in mind this is still kind of a compact uh crossover

Unibody uh SUV but moving around to the side profile of this vehicle I want to show you guys first of all um the actual overall look of this car now um this vehicle got cons considerably larger when they redesigned it back in 2022 it stretches around 182.5 in Long the

Endline is actually around a/ an inch longer thanks to the bumpers its W base is 108.5 in and you can see with the xrt model uh it has a little bit more aggressive uh unpainted wheel Arch moldings you have these uh unique 18-in Wheels which kind of reminds you a

Little bit of like a wrench that’s what Hyundai tells us it has kind of like a two-tone look to it with the matte black and the Machine look and then Hyundai also decided to put some allterrain tires on this vehicle although as you can see this model being a show car

Doesn’t have that it’s riding on a 235x 60 R 18 tire The Limited in the endline trim here will have a 19-inch wheel with a slightly different design remember I said 8.3 in of ground clearance this car also has uh an independent an all independent suspension you can see the

Xrt also includes some black trim here along the actual wheel uh window trim you also have these more aggressive looking roof rails this allows you to put more stuff in the actual roof and then you can also see there’s a standard roof here if you guys are looking for a

Pano roof that’s going to be included on the endline and the uh limited trim levels now moving around the rear of the vehicle you can see the design pretty much is unchanged uh this vehicle when it first came out I really love the way the tail lights had looked with the full

LED uh light blade design it’s got that newer Hyundai logo that’s kind of integrated into the actual glass here a nicely inated spoiler with the rear wiper that is nicely hidden and tucked away underneath that spoiler here the xrt also includes a slightly more aggressive rear uh diffuser area and

Then in terms of the cargo capacity you can see this trim also includes uh an actual power liftgate and one of the Beauties about this vehicle being so much larger this year is the fact that it has more cargo space so you’re looking at around 38.7 cubic feet with

The second row seats up there’s no third row remember Hyundai will happily sell you a palisade or Santa Fe if you want that fold down those seats it expands it out to around 75 cubic feet so again that’s near the top of the segment and that’s really an important selling

Factor for those of you looking in this segment if you look underneath here there’s also a temporary spare tire a little bit of underfloor storage as well now it is a temporary spare but at least it’s a nice thing to have especially considering the fact that this is

Supposed to be the more off-road oriented model now under the hood of the new Tucson things are pretty much carryover except for the two electrified powertrains which I’ll get to in a moment most models however are going to be sold with this engine this is a carryover 2.5 L naturally aspirated

Gasoline direct injection four cylinder with variable valve timing it makes 187 horsepower and 187 pound feet of torque those numbers are pretty average to slightly below average for a base power train in the segment it all goes out through an 8speed automatic transmission and this vehicle is available with

Either front or all-wheel drive Hyundai wasn’t ready to talk about the updated fuel economy of this model yet but honestly it should probably be pretty similar to the pre- refreshed model which easily did in the high 20 MPG Mark uh as this vehicle sits it probably will

Weigh in around 3600 lb but if you guys require more power and efficiency let’s go ahead and move over to one of the hybrid versions now if you guys require more power and efficiency I think most customers are probably going to be happier with this powertrain and it did

Get a little bit of updates for 2025 so this marries a 1.6 L gasoline direct injection turbocharged 4-cylinder so it’s a smaller gas engine but it also has a 47.7 KW electric motor that’s kind of sandwiched in between the engine and the six-speed automatic transmission now the numbers have improved by 5

Horsepower so now it makes 231 horsepower combined and 258 PB Feld of torque that’s a big increase especially in the torque figures and unlike some other hybrids in the class that are connected to a CVT Hyundai pairs this with a six-speed automatic transmission we don’t have the updated fuel economy

Figures just yet but the battery pack is really small it’s 1.49 kws if you guys require more electric only Power and range let’s go ah and head over to the plug-in hybrid version now at the top of the powertrain scale you’re going to find this model here and I’m actually

Really happy to see that Hyundai is continuing the plug-in hybrid version so this again combines a 1.6 L gasoline direct injection turbo 4-cylinder but the electric motor in this model has been enlarged to deliver uh around 77 Kow which means the total combined output for this model is around 266

Horsepower which is again a pretty decent amount it also has around 258 pbet of torque the difference of course being it has a much larger 13.8 Kow battery pack which again is bigger much bigger versus the 1.49 in the regular hybrid it all goes out through a six-speed automatic transmission and

Just like the regular hybrid the these models come standard with the company’s HT trck all-wheel drive if you want front wheeel drive you have to go for the gas version Hyundai wasn’t quite ready to talk about the fuel efficiency or the electric only range but the pre-

Refresh model did around 33 Mi on its full charge so moving on to the interior of the 2025 2con first of all compared to the pre- refresh model let me go ahead and shut the door door has a nice solid sounding thunk this interior got a

Lot of styling updates uh from the uh Hyundai um Kona and for example the Hyundai ionic 6 you can see the two screen uh split screen design has been replaced by one continuous screen so it now has a kind of a continuous panoramic display of a curved glass this actually

Represents two screens it’s a 12.3in display here and then a 12.3in cluster here the pre- refresh model had the digital 12-in display here but the center screen was only 10.25 in so now it’s 2 in larger it also has the latest version of the Hyundai software which is

Called NN or nccs or something like that um it also includes Wireless Apple carplay and Android auto which is a very big thing that’s something that Hyundai was kind of slow to add so it’s nice to see that all models come standard with the wireless Apple carplay and Android

Auto and this model being The Limited trim also comes with all the bells and whistles but before we start talking about that let’s talk about the door panels you can see the door panel material has a soft touch injection molded plastic here with the kind of contrast or the uh fake stitching here

There’s kind of like a nice cloth material here uh it’s nice and padded over here the windows they one touch up down for the front however not for the rear you got a brand new steering wheel this is the same steering wheel that we first saw on the Hyundai ionic 6 where

Again the H logo has been replaced by these four dots remember the four dots means H in Morse code which is kind of nice these dots don’t illuminate however like they do in the uh ionx 6 the steering wheel itself has a manual tilt and telescoping adjustment there are

Paddles on the wheel and then the gear selector has been moved from the console over to the column over here it has that same kind of toggle little dial that they first introduced on the ionx 6 that frees up some space over here which again kind of improves uh storage so you

Can see there’s two USBC charging ports there’s kind of like a screen here to actually adjust the climate control functions you get dual zone automatic climate control uh I love the way this display looks it’s very nicely integrated as well it’s not overwhelming you have a soft touch injection molded

Dash material here with a nice little storage shelf here which is great if you guys want to put some more items over here and then the wireless phone charging pad has been moved over to the center over here so it’s a better position next side next to the cup

Holders I also like how it kind of has like a raised area here if your phone has a case on it for example this will allow it to charge more reliably which is kind of a big problem with some of these wireless phone charging pads you

Can see open this up there’s a pretty deep center console area here which is nice the seats they adjust in uh 10 different ways for the driver uh eight different ways for the passenger you have two person memory here these are also heated and ventilated seats so if

You guys want heated and ventilated seats a heated steering wheel and heated back seats you have to go for the limited trim this Trim in the end line also includes that panoramic sunroof which opens up over the front seat entirely goes into the the back seat area which is definitely a nice touch

But overall the interior still feels roomy and SPAC it it has good sight lines and I think Hyundai did a great job with giving us back some actual hard buttons but also improving the tech and giving us that wireless carplay with the new the latest software but let’s go and

Hop into the back seat area cuz I want to show you guys what the space is like back here now in terms of the back seat space uh the Tucson was already one of the biggest in the class uh you have around 41.3 in of leg room back here

Which is again near the top of the segment you can see these seats they do obviously fold down to expand the cargo capacity and you can also recline the seats as well which is a definitely a nice touch you can see once I get back

Here and show you guys the space this is essentially where I have the seat to drive if I was actually driving this vehicle but let me go ahead and kind of flip this back down so you can see a little bit better you can see there’s

Allows you to kind of get a little bit of a recline these seats they don’t slide forward and back but you typically don’t find that in the segment material quality back here you can see is hard touch plastic um but there are three Lev heated rear seats this is the only trim

To get that the Panter roof kind of comes all the way back here and it also still has a surprisingly decent amount of headro now I’m not the tallest I’m only 5 7 uh but I can get get back here and sit pretty comfortably uh you do

Have some rear seat air vents here you have two USBC charging ports there is a slight hump here that intrudes on the middle passenger you have two storage Cubbies but overall if you guys are looking for a compact SUV with one of the biggest back seats this and sister

Vehicle the Kia Sportage are among the largest in the class so last year in the states Hyundai managed to sell a little under 210,000 tucsons here in the states which actually represents the best sales year ever ever since the Tucson came out in 2005 so clearly the company’s doing

Something right here with the you know Trio of powertrains the big back seat the big trunk so The Styling updates that the company has made along with the technology updates are only going to improve that if you guys are looking to get your hands on this new Tucson which

By the way they should be in dealership sometime later this summer and while the company wasn’t ready to talk about pricing just yet we can kind of speculate here because obviously with this increase in technology and features and capability I’m expecting it to be more expensive currently the Bas Tucson

Starts at around 275 the hybrid’s around 325 the plug-in hybrid this model that I’m showing you here is around 38 Grand so at the top end they can easily Crest over $40,000 the plug-in hybrid can get to nearly $50,000 obviously I expect it to be around that same level but it’s

Kind of still in line with the rest of its competitors in this space for rine reviews here at the 2024 New York International Auto Show I’m sophon Bay

As the best-selling model in the #Hyundai portfolio, the #HyundaiTucson plays a key role in drawing customer in the showrooms and for 2025, the #Tucson family gets more appealing with more power for both the #TucsonHybrid and #TucsonPHEV. The rest of the family gets minor styling tweaks but a big upgrade in tech with all models getting the dual 12.3″ panoramic displays along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It goes on sale this summer.
