We Check Out Rad Power Bikes NEW 2024 Models! New RadWagon 5, RadExpand 5 Plus, and Radsters
Rad is back it’s been a while since they released really anything the rad Runner 3 plus last year last year now we have four bikes behind us two brand new models and two updates I’m Ryan from eike Escape and I’m JT from eike Escape and in this video we’re going to dive in
Deep and kind of show you what’s new on all these models I think I even saw some RFID tags in there somewhere we’ll also maybe bring out some of their older models so we can compare and really see what’s new on the bikes see what rad has upgraded on those two reworked models
And pretty excited for those we’ll bring out an expert to see what she thinks of one model in particular and finally we’ll discuss who these bikes are for and kind of show you a closeup of Rad’s unique spin that they put when they design ebikes but first we need to

Again there we go all four now got the radx vanan 5 plus let’s talk briefly about unboxing these we had Eco packaging on the new raders correct yep and there was still a little bit of plastic on the expand and the rad wagon but overall they are nicely packed into
The boxes and the unboxing experiences like we’ expect from rad power bikes they all have these clips at the bottom so you don’t need to cut up and lift up the bike you can actually just just undo the clips on the side and then just lift
The Box up and that exposes the bike which is nice you have 360° access to the bikes which is really handy and then of course you have all the accessories you have to install the stem you also have to install the fenders and the front light and the one thing that rad
Does too on their packaging is everything is nicely labeled all of their boxes for whether you have pedals headlight or charger are all nicely labeled and boxed and on the subject of charger the red charger is overall I think Ryan and I agree it’s just kind of
Cool and comparison it has not only an orange cable for the rad design but also comes with this really nice bracket so you can simply mount it to a wall slide your charger right in there and also has a spot on the side for the cable to clip
Into when you’re not charging and still two amp Chargers all two amp Chargers yes all right next what’s new on all of these four models maybe the biggest change is now some of the models are class 3 electric bikes which means a top speed of 20 28 mph if you’re pedaling
Throttle still going to kick off at 20 as a Class 2 and you can switch between the different modes it’s been a long time coming for rad to introduce a true class 3 electric bike to go along with that the motors up to 100 NM of torque
On these motors on the new models and finally related to the riding experience it’s rad power bike’s first models with torque sensors which means the more power that you you put into the bike it’s going to amplify your power it’s a more natural riding experience that is a significant change with these four
Models what else do we have on the subject of components and some other differences that rad has finally done they’re also finally switching almost all of their bikes I think over to hydraulic disc brakes the rad wagon the expand and also the two new models now all have hydraulic disc brakes and then
On the side of safety as well as with the brakes they’ve also transitioned all of their batteries over to being not only UL certified but complete ul28 full 49 certification on the entire electronic systems on the bike so that’s a nice not of safety and the batteries now also have self-resetting fuses which
We know is a big complaint on some of the other models that’s going to be on the semi-integrated batteries that was a complaint on the rad Rover 6 Plus and rad City 5 plus and also all of you their batteries are now filled with a safe shield resin which should help in
The nature of a crash or some sort of dropping help protect the cells internally it’s just that extra protection say you do have a fire helps prevent fire spreading from one cell to the other which is common with lithium battery fires and bonus rad also boosted
The battery slightly from 14 to 15 amp hours so about 7% larger rad also introduced some brand new color LCD displays and with the new control panels they also added turn signal integration and a brighter front headlight that now should illuminate up to 200 Lum and
Don’t forget the USB C Port yes and ipx6 rating so you don’t have to worry about if you go through a puddle having any problems with the electronics on your bike and then finally the through axle which makes assembly a little bit more easy and it’s just safer more stiff and
It just really ensures that your front wheel is where it’s supposed to be no chances of it coming unlocked like a quick release there’s also now two size offerings but only on the radster road and the radster trail which is something we haven’t previously seen from rad
Power bikes as well and I know that list may not seem very big to you guys out there just on paper but I promise you when you actually get Hands-On with the model it’s quite a few large changes that do have a big impact on the way the

Past it allows Ryan and I to do this job almost every day now which is pretty nice next let’s get to some of the smaller things that JT and I have been noticing as we are unboxing what we want to start off with is I think what we’re
Both most excited about and that’s going to be the new radster models so let’s put those next to each other now these are the two different sizes we’ll show off how that looks for two different height ranges but first we want to talk about some of the unique things maybe
Let’s start in the cockpit some of the changes we’ve noticed so starting up here on the cockpit on the right hand side is where kind of I think the biggest changes were and that’s that you get an 8-speed Acera drivetrain system which also gets rid of the overhand cyst
Seven-speed index shifter and you get a nice underhand shifter as well as this throttle is a different half twist grip throttle that we’ve seen on really any other model out there and you also get these really nice locking half grips grips moving had been a complaint on
Some of their other models so that’s a nice Improvement and these two tags these are the RFID tags so let’s turn this display on and see it for the first time power button is on the top nice rad power B logo nice color display there Ander passcode or it has
An RFID touch here there we go unlocks it that’s super cool going to hold the menu bar look at all of these settings this is where you can change the class class 3 25 or 28 that’s really cool and of course if you want a deep
Dive on any of these models we’re going to have full reviews and there’s that asera derailer step up from the Altus derailer that’s most often found uh what else do we have oh front suspension yeah the front suspension Fork on these so they have gone away from any rst brand
And they’ve gone to Sr Sun tour and you also get this really nice black stanion kind of helps The Styling queue and then one thing that we have to call out about the radster really both the models but mostly the trail that’s going to be this super Unique Look you get these really
Nice tan sidewall tires you get this really cool colored frame and then on back to the subject of tires you also get not really a fat tire but you get a wider tire than what we would see on like a road bike and you get these really nice 3inch wide kind of mountain
Bike inspired treaded tires and those unique colors also made it to the radster road I’m a big fan of this really bright blue and rad clearly takes safety very seriously we have these uh new markings on the down tube here ages 16 or older always wear a helmet and be
Sure to check your pre-ride checklist at r-g go.com safety next not surprising rad went with just step through frames but it’s of a unique frame this is the main difference here on the regular versus the large you can see on the large it comes up a little bit higher so
JT why don’t you step over the trail so yeah not too difficult to get on and off of and JT you are five 5′ 7 with a 29 in inseam here and I can get just about up onto that seat yeah pretty comfortable I really do kind of like
These like somewhat BMX style handlebars a lot of room but put you in more of an upright riding position as well now I am 6 ft tall so the large is likely going to fit me better but let’s see where that minimum insertion point is right about there nice step through
Frame I could make this work but I think I’d feel a little bit better on the size large just feels like a more cramped cockpit and of course I would like to have just slightly more leg extension with my knee all right this is more my
Size so a little bit higher of a step through you can get a little bit more if you tilt the bike over but still very comfortable to stand over you’re not going to come in contact with it and there we go this feels so much better
And as JT was saying I can move these handlebars a little bit further out if I want to and it is a very nice upright riding position they kind of have a little swoop to them I haven’t seen that on more BMX style bars and be honest I
Could probably fit on that bike if I put the seat all the way down but the large frame is definitely not meant for me I’m definitely going to fit better on the regular size frame of the Red Trail again both these bikes are offered in both of those frame sizes nice job rad
Power bikes I really like that yeah the one size fits-all fitting is getting is uh going to the Wayside and we are happy to see that because Ryan and I are definitely not the same siiz people all right that’s enough about these new models let’s see what they have changed
And revitalized on some of their older models all right next we have the radx fand 5 plus why is it called that because it is an addition and an improvement on the Old Rad expand 5 which of course was an improvement on the original rad mini step through
Pricing on the rad expand 5 plus is going to be $18.99 now what improvements are you getting well it’s actually a lot of improvements let’s start first up with the suspension one of the things that happened when rad first introduced the rad xan 5 from the rad mini was that
They got rid of suspension now it’s back which we’re happy to see and this does have a preload adjustment as well as a lockout which is comp in comparison to the solid front fork on the expand 5 regular and no through axle want to point that out on the new expand which I
Think that’s because the bike the expand itself comes shipped to you fully assembled besides we did have to put the handlebars on but the front wheels are on all you have to do is unfold it through your handlebars on and then do a pre-ride check and then you’re pretty
Much ready to go we also have Gemma hydraulic disc brakes that is a huge upgrade compared to the radius mechanical disc Brak they opted for the CIS index shifter from Shimano from the micro shift and one of the things on the radx fan 5 that I didn’t really like was the LED display
And of course now it has Rad’s new color LCD display it is a vertical display compared to the horizontal display though on the rapsters and these color LCD displays do not have RFID systems as well as them only being allowed to be changed between class one and Class 2 do
That by holding the bottom button here and can change class two over to class one and that should disable the throttle you now get the turn signals compared to the simple light on the radic fan 5 also a larger rear rack which is nice more space you still have the battery in the
Same location it looks similar but they’re using the safe shield technology that we talked about and it now H has the LED displays and one thing we are noticing about these batteries is 47.1 9vt 14.4 a battery and that’s going to be across all of the models and one
Thing that we’ve noticed that is a little bit different on the listing for the rad expand 5 plus is that we now have a listing for the new meters of torque that the motor puts out it’s the same 750 W Motor I believe but now with
64 newm of listed torque and as far as riding experience of course one of the main differences is going to be the torque sensor and just generally one of the reasons that we did like the xand 5 was because it was such an accessible electric bike red po bikes does a really
Nice job with their tuning we’ll see how that feels on the torque sensors in our upcoming full reviews but perhaps the biggest selling point or why I recommended the rad xand 5 and before that the rad mini so much was because this bike is incredibly accessible
Because of its frame design so not only do you have the 20-in wheels which are nice because it just changes the complete form factor compared to say the radster road which undoubtedly is a bigger bike but this is something that is just going to be easier for people to
Handle and that’s thanks to the nice step through frame and of course it just feels a little bit of a smaller electric bike which means if you’re around 5 ft this is the bike that you should probably consider especially if you don’t feel like you need something full
Size and I think that’s why this bike is going to continue to to be popular and of course it has wider tires for increased stability as well and even as someone who’s 6 ft tall I can still get full leg extension here and of course BMX style handlebars can adjust those as
Well next we need to get to the bike that is probably the bike that I’m most excited about out of all four of these that’s because I have kids let’s get to the radwagon okay I I had to bring out uh another important person with the radwagon because
We started our ebike journey with a 2018 radwagon so I want to get her first reaction of the brand new radwagon five are you ready 3 2 1 there it is she never seen it before wo the blue looks nice very nice the kickstand that looks real
Nice uh the battery location I like that um like the wheel cover thing on the back like the built-in skirt I think it’s what it’s called Uh the bell I got to check the Bell oh go check the Bell okay oh that is a nice Bell let’s turn the display on
Okay let me push the top button here a lot more buttons than you’re used to on that yeah is there blinkers blinkers okay whoa that’s a nice screen little oh oh wow pedal assist up you can really tell rain J yeah what I was going to say what is that number okay
Nice suspension front fork now oh so you’re going to be able to cushion some of those bumps as well as hydraulic disc brakes and oh that’s my biggest yep and torque sensor did I have that yeah all right let’s see uh let’s get a side angle here a valley hopping over cuz the
Frame has a little bit lower of a step over height yeah I can’t wait to get those side by side well and another big thing too with the rad wagon that is also not going to be apparent is that no longer 22-in Wheels rad said nope we’re
Going with 20s these are 20in wheels sit a little bit lower not a custom size really like that change stay tuned for the full review maybe we’ll get some more of Allie’s thoughts comment down in the comment section more Ally if you want to see your more on the
Channel some other minor differences so on the radwagon 4 which is still available they had this nice quick release stem with sweat back handlebars this is still going to be a more upright riding position thanks to the BMX style bars this down tube here is very robust
And then they changed a little bit of how the tubing went on the previous radwagon before we move on from that you can kind of see from this angle that the white frame is up here and then you can just see blow that’s where the blue
Frame is so this is straight on so the overall step through on the new radwagon 5 is a lot lower a lot lower this is way more accessible and the rear rack it’s not significantly lower but I’ll take any little bit because once you load these cargo bikes up they can get tippy
