McLaren’s convertibles have always been unique. They often appear as if they were intended from the start, sometimes even looking better than their hardtop versions. Despite the extra weight of a retractable roof, they usually don’t lose any performance. Models like the 12C, 570S, 650S, 720S, and the latest 750S Spiders, along with their Longtail versions, all look fantastic and pack a lot of power.

Now, it’s the Artura’s turn. This is McLaren’s first full-production hybrid to get a convertible version, and it comes with several updates for the whole Artura range, including more power.

The highlight of the Spider version is its retractable hardtop. It features a single-piece carbon composite panel or an advanced electrochromic glass panel, which can be operated in just eleven seconds.

McLaren has designed the Artura’s flying buttresses to be transparent, improving rearward visibility compared to the coupe’s solid ones. They not only look better but are also practical in traffic. The roof and its mechanisms add 136 pounds, bringing the Spider’s total weight to 3,439 pounds.

Aside from the roof, the Artura Spider’s standout feature is its increased power: 690 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. This is an upgrade from the original model’s 671 horsepower, and McLaren offers this boost to current Artura owners.

Existing Artura owners might be pleased with the power increase, but there are other upgrades as well. The 2025 Artura has stiffer engine mounts, faster Proactive Damping Control, a 25% quicker eight-speed gearbox, new brake cooling ducts, a better-sounding exhaust, and a new ‘Spinning Wheel Pull-Away’ mode. Additionally, the stop/start button has changed from red to papaya orange.

With the added power, the Spider can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.0 seconds, 0 to 124 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds, 0 to 186 miles per hour in 21.6 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 205 miles per hour. The slight weight difference between the coupe and Spider results in just a 0.1-second difference in the 0-124 and 0-186 times, favoring the hardtop.
