I drove an SUV from 1996 – 2008(explorer then montero), then switched to an accord hybrid. I now have an ioniq 6 and love my sedan. My wife has a minivan for when we need to transport something big, but for the vast majority of the time I simply do not need an SUV. With my pass through, I can get a 10 ft long board in in my car if I need to, and we can fit a surprising amount in the trunk with 4 people riding comfortably. Maybe if I only had a single vehicle for my family I might feel different, but I really don’t understand why everyone wants such a big car as a daily driver.

As much as many want to deny it, the aero is quite a lot better.

Plus the larger floor pan of wagons seem so much more useful and the short cargo areas of suvs.

For a similar sized battery pack and from the same manufacturer, anyone know how much more distance a sedan/coupe BEV can drive over a similar sized SUV BEV, are we talking 10% or 20% more driving range?

For non-BEVs, definitely sedans/coupes/hatchbacks make so much sense but with a SUV, the battery pack sits slightly higher up and have a lower risk of getting damaged (we’ve heard of the Hyundai 5 fiasco here in Canada)

I’m a sedan/hatchback kind of guy too as they are more dynamic/nimble and more fuel efficient but wondering if going small SUV BEV made more sense, because of the extra cargo space and slightly higher ground clearance during winter, at the expense of 10-20% higher charging cost.

Nothing wrong with consumers having more choices.
