Not the best period from MB, and especially not in their compact. Now, it gets interesting:
If it’s a 6MT, you’re a bit offbeat and got lucky (very few had a 6MT in the US)
If it’s a 5AT (7AT if it’s a post-facelift model) you don’t get any brownie points.
Regardless you are either:
* Looking for a cheap MB, but you didn’t account for specialized servicing (but they do generally treat you pretty well if you treat them well) * Maybe trying to improve your crash resilience on a budget (but you failed to account for age-related rust compromising the crash structure…another issue in the bad era of MB) * Not as fun and exciting as the guy who chose an old BMW 3er.

Either you’re getting help financially fixing it or won’t have it long once the first repair bill comes. I don’t know why, but I’ve always liked the look of this gen. I almost bought one a couple of years ago because there were several in my area that were cheap, but then I remembered it would be a cheap MB so it wouldn’t stay cheap 😆

That’s a pretty nice ride for a first car. What engine is in that W203? These are luxe feeling but tend to lack some oomph… which is also good for a first car.

For a first car, an older Mercedes is actually not bad. Could be an old 70s yellow camaro with nice black pinstripes with the drawback that it runs like shit and throws out smoke when it starts.
