I know that these models are looked down upon due their general malaise of power BUT the style of the Cobra (and Farrah Fawcette) will FOREVER be a happy memory…..

I had a Mustang II with the Ghia package, a manual trans and loved it. It was really nice and upscale after my 71 Pinto.

    I had a black 78 2.8 v6 4 speed 8″ rear with 3.00 gears. Was fun.

It’s going to be an unpopular opinion here, but I think the Mustang II actually more clearly meets what they were originally trying to accomplish (an affordable and sporty car for the masses) than what the original Mustang became (America’s Sports car with some guts). They sold a lot of both, but these were much better than the competition at the time.

I’ll never downvote a Mustang II because I will always want to see an interesting unusual car

Proof that beauty is in the eye of the beholder…..

This is not even the (laughable) sports package that at least had a better raked appearance and performance. This vehicle will forever be rated lower than the AMC Pacer overall. It’s a lazy response to the legendary status of the mighty Mustang brand.

It utilized the Pinto frame, did they even fix the dangerous gas tank placement problem that Pinto’s had?

These cars are badass in their own way. They were returned to the same dimensions as the original, and they were the right car at the right time, introduced at the same time as the 1973 oil embargo, which kicked off an energy crisis and runaway inflation. The thirsty 60s and early 70s muscle cars were suddenly obsolete dinosaurs. When I was a kid, these were EVERYWHERE. They were affordable, stylish-ish for the time, and most of all, good on gas. It was on the Pinto platform, but the old Mustang was based on the Falcon, which was just as humble. That made it easy for parts sharing and ultimately keeping the Mustang name alive. I learned to drive on a ‘75 with the four banger and the four speed. It taught me everything I needed to know!

My wife had one. She also had the late 70’s early 80’s big blonde hair. That was the best damn car to drive on ice and snow.

Not enough power to spin a one wheel squeal even on ice.

What I love about this era is that cars that people back in the day thought were lame and crappy are being appreciated as high art.

Probably the worst mustang ever built.

I had a girlfriend in college that had one of these in like 1987. We used to give her a hard time cause it really didn’t seem like a Mustang. Anyway she had a car and drove use around, probably shouldn’t have made fun of said car.
