1961 Ford Falcon

Any help finding out the history would be great, where do I start? Tried researching the vin online but can’t find anything. Most sites just show it’s a 1961 Falcon lol where do I find its history or those who have the knowledge to tell me? It’s a factory automatic 1961 Falcon, I’m not sure if it’s the Falcon 6 or Special 6 yet, still figuring that out even. Like I said, any help is appreciated! My son is just in love with Falcons, always has been since he was tiny, so when I found a factory auto for this price I jumped and got it. I know we are in for a lot to get it back to driving, much less the glory we envision, but we will do what we must to get it back beautiful!

  1. My first car, at age 16 – was a ‘61 green 3-on-the-tree falcon. The year I bought that car was ‘73, and I paid $75. Mine was a lighter shade of green.

I would suggest looking for a build sheet, not sure when they started build sheets but it’ll give you something to go on.

There are no records for Fords before 1966 or so. There was a fire where they kept production records and all was lost. Best you can do is take the VIN to the license branch and see if they will give you previous ownership records in your state. 4 door automatics were the most common Falcon, so finding body parts may be a little easier.

Go to [Falconparts.com](http://Falconparts.com) to decode your vin, that will tell you what engine you have and other general information. Also, if the valve cover is red, it’s probably a Special (170cui) six.

Fun, easy cars to work on. Even back in the day most trunks were rusted at the edge where yours is rusted. Your hood looks good (hard to tell), but those rusted a lot also at the front edge. I envy you. I probably owned a half dozen of these in my younger days as they were cheap to buy and I was poor. I remember buying 6 banger replacement engines for $50 a pop from junkyards. I would love to see some interior shots if you get time to post some. Good luck and have fun!
