All-new 2025 Volvo XC90 – Best Plug-in Hybrid Luxury SUV
The new 2025 Volvo XC90 has been revealed, showcasing a refreshed and more luxurious take on the popular petrol-powered SUV. The updated model features a facelift with sleek, modern exterior styling, giving it an even more premium look on the road. Inside, the XC90 boasts improved materials and a more advanced infotainment system, enhancing both comfort and convenience for drivers and passengers alike. Powertrain options include traditional petrol engines as well as more eco-friendly plug-in hybrid versions, catering to a range of preferences. With these upgrades, the new XC90 is expected to be priced around £65,000.
At a glance, it may seem that the Volvo XC90’s exterior hasn’t changed significantly, but this is far from a drawback. The SUV’s sleek and stylish design has received a subtle nip-and-tuck makeover to align it more closely with Volvo’s electric car lineup. The most noticeable change is at the front, where new, reshaped headlights now resemble those of the electric EX90. The front bumper and grille have also been completely redesigned, featuring larger air intakes lower down for a more dynamic look.
Along the sides, the XC90 retains its signature smooth, pebble-like silhouette, maintaining its familiar yet timeless appeal. A range of new alloy wheel designs, available in sizes from 20 to 22 inches, adds to its updated aesthetic. Additionally, a new dark red color scheme has been introduced, offering a fresh option for buyers looking for something distinctive.
The XC90 rear changes are minimal, with new smoked LED tail lights that look more modern than those on the current model. The rear bumper has also been slightly updated.
The cabin of the new Volvo XC90 has received a subtle refresh, drawing inspiration from the EX90. It now features a sleek horizontal design and incorporates more textured materials, including the option of eco-friendly Nordico and Herringbone Weave upholstery. The center console has been redesigned, offering a ‘2+1’ cupholder that accommodates an additional slim drinks can, along with a new wireless smartphone charging pad.
The most significant change inside is the larger 11.2-inch touchscreen, replacing the previous 9-inch version.
The XC90 offers a choice of five, six, or seven-seat configurations. Mild hybrid models provide 680 liters of storage behind the second row, while plug-in hybrid models offer 640 liters. With the third row in use, storage drops to 302 liters for mild hybrids and 262 liters for PHEVs.
The new Volvo XC90 will be sold alongside the all-electric EX90, but it doesn’t feature an EV option. Instead, it offers three high-performance petrol engines, including a plug-in hybrid T8 with over 70KM of electric-only range. The T8 retains the same system as the previous model, delivering an impressive 455hp from its 2.0-liter petrol engine and electric motor, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100Kmph in just 5.1 seconds. Two mild hybrid petrol options are also available, offering 250hp and 300hp, with 0-100Kmph times of 7.3 and 6.4 seconds, providing solid performance,
