Just got this ’66 Stang for $12k- good deal or bust?

Just got this Mustang yesterday, and I’m happy with it either way but asking for my own edification.

– 1966 Mustang (not a GT, previous owner added the fog lights)
– 289 V8
– 44k on odometer but who knows
– Vintage Air AC installed, just needs a charge
– new aluminum radiator, exhaust, and carb
– local classics mechanic gave it an inspection, said some items of note were there was a master cylinder brake bleed, some bushings were cracked, and some inner tie rods were a little loose

Overall, whatchall think? Bad deal? Fair deal? Or pretty solid find?

For sale red. I would get a mechanic to look at it on a rack to make sure there’s no funny business with frame/ suspension. Looks good though

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me

“Vintage AC air just needs charge”

That’s almost NEVER the case. More than likely has other issues. Still looks like a good deal. Just roll the windows down!

Looks great! If it hasn’t had any rust issues in the past then I think it was a deal. I did notice it doesn’t have 289 emblems on the front fender. Is it a six cylinder conversion? Would have a “T” in the fifth character of the VIN.

I’m jealous. I bought a 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V diamond jubilee edition with 53k miles for 9500 and was told it didn’t need any work done to it and just found out that it was a lie. Needs new shocks, new struts, new control arms, all the bushings need replacing, brake master cylinder is leaking, power steering fluid leak, brake lines are splitting and some other things. I could list everything if someone wants me to but it’s a lot

Great deal!!!! I would pay that without blinking an eye.

I like it. You should be proud driving that thing

Solid find for sure. Sounds like totally reasonable wear and tear for a 58 yr old vehicle. Not sure where you are but in the PNW it would have gone for WAY more than what you paid.

I was never a Ford man back when stupid shit like that mattered to me but I’d take that in a heartbeat, the due diligence has been done did and came back fine like you said. Yes indeed, I’m jealous.

Beautiful car, if you’re happy it was a good deal

Depends entirely on rust or lack thereof.

About how much mine costed between up front payment and various repairs and restores, but mine looks far worse, good job!

    It’s it’s a V8 it’s adequate. Way too much for a six.

    Can’t go wrong with a 66 Mustang

Doesn’t even matter, it’s hot as fuck

Is it fully stock? That’s an average price I think

Wow. A steal my friend. Pass that car down to your kids.

There are people asking more for shed painted 1995 f150s in my area.

Would love to see a pic of the engine…but yeah, good deal!

As long as you’re happy with the car and feel good about the purchase, it’s a good deal.

12k is pretty good for a 289. Since it’s not the original engine is it a 2 barrel or 4 barrel carb?

If it didn’t break the bank and you like it to hell with everyone else’s opinion

Nice car at a nice price and any work you do on it will be a labor of love. Don’t think drive.

How’s the body and frame? Have you done a tap test for bodywork?

Paint needs some attention, but I’d say a pretty decent deal for a ‘66 coupe. Seen people pay more for less!
