German Expert Confirms: Tesla’s Autopilot is Not Safe – Test Drive Aborted

Are more lawsuits incoming now?

In a court case regarding phantom braking and a faulty autopilot in a vision only Tesla, the court ordered a test drive. The expert terminated the test drive after a phantom braking incident.

• A Tesla Model 3 was tested with autopilot activated over a 700-kilometer route.
• Tesla’s adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist were among the systems tested.
• The route consisted mainly of highway sections.
• During the drive, there were 5 “implausible” situations.
• One of these was a severe phantom braking incident, which led to the termination of the test.

Wait this expert testifies under oath that they let the Tesla brake from 140kmh to 96kmh without taking over?

Did the judge take their license?

Then claims that “following cars could be observed evading and braking hard”, but doesn’t claim they actually observed that themselves.

    What was the expert doing?

My Model Y likes to reduce the set speed to 70 km/h suddenly while driving on the Autobahn. Not funny when it’s empty and dangerous when having a lorry behind you.

What needs to be said, every manufacturer has a bias towards their home region. Tesla would never have their indicators on the steering wheel if they had more roundabouts in the US. Idk how the speed sign recognition is in the US with Teslas, I assume its good but many German Reviews have said that Teslas speed sign recognition in Germany is not very good. The speeds also probably change more frequently in Europe than in the US. Things work a lot different in Europe, so I can imagine Teslas Autopilot running into issues that they havent run into in the US.
