Mileage better on VW but depending where you live cost to own probably better on Honda.
I live in New England, if I were you I would go Honda. Try and get away with an offer of $8500

The one that wasn’t driven by a chain-smoking dog owner. The one with service records in the glovebox. The one with four matching tires. The one that doesn’t have the tail lights painted black and 5% tint.

The answer is… from those numbers alone, it’s not possible to tell you with any certainty which car is the better choice.

Personally, I would choose a Japanese used car over a German used car for lower cost of ownership and better reliability.

  3. Unless the Accord is a cesspool or obvious basket case, I’d take it every time.

(Formerly owned both VW and Hondas)

You clearly have not seen any of the Wizards videos.. 1.8T is one of the worst engines ever made… Get the Accord so long it’s taken care of and wasn’t in a million accidents. VW will cost you in the 5 years of ownership as much as getting a new Accord lol

Repair and maintenance cost on the VW will be more than the Honda. As a 20+ year technician and service advisor I’ll never own a VW. Honda all day

Any time, any place – take Honda. Hondas are amazing cars.

That gen 1.8t suuucks. Carbon buildup, head gasket, turbo issues, valvetrain issues.

That gen accord is nearly faultless.

    Honda.

  8. Honda all day every day, VW did nothing but bad products at that time. And I say this as a owner of multitude of Volkswagens

As someone who’s only owned European cars, I’d pick the Honda

Assuming they are both in similar condition, the Honda. The 1.8 in that VW is notoriously troublesome.

The naturally aspirated one. Turbos suck on high mileage cars. Just another thing to go wrong sadly.

I own a 2018 VW Passat GT but the moment it throws its first CEL it’ll be gone. Not falling in the pitfall of insanity.
