Cars

You must use one of these as your only car for a year. Assume they each have about 70,000 miles. You must pay for fuel and repairs, and you cannot make any modifications to the car, including undoing existing modifications. Which one would you pick?

  1. The Neon, if for no reason other than fond memories of the one my girlfriend had in college. Red, coupe, auto. So, with this one being a stick, I’m +1.

The G500, I’ve always wanted a G and I would be happy to go broke for one.

  3. LimpMathematician247

If I get to keep them after the year is up, 1- G Wagen, 2- Bentley and 3- RX-8

  4. RoseWould

RX-8. Always thought these were so cool when they were new!

  5. socialcommentary2000

The Neon or the G Wagon, with the former being the better choice.

  6. Jugzrevenge

The Ford pickup! I only keep it for a year? I’d be hauling sooooo much gravel!!!

  7. PicnicBasketPirate

“You’ll need all 74hp”, just how much power do you guys think you need in a tiny little runabout that is lighter than a MX-5?

  8. iamtheduckie

    I want that S-Cargo. It’s a funky car.

  9. handymanshandle

I’ll assume the battery’s been done on the Leaf, so I’m taking that.

  10. Prize-Trouble-7705

    S-Cargo I guess, I’ve driven slower cars.

  11. Ancient-Street-3318

NO TIME TO ASK, GET IN THE SNAIL!!!

Since you didn’t specify V8 or W12 for the Bentley, I would go with the RX-8. Had one as a rental way back and it served us well despite getting atrocious mileage. Also I’m fairly familiar with rotary issues so it doesn’t bother me much

Neon because 1. Manual Transmission. 2. Unmolested. RX8 would not be too terrible. The Cressida, is interesting.

  14. Rapom613

G wagon 100%. May drink fuel like it’s going out of style, but it’s super dependable and looks awesome

  15. technobrendo

G Wagen, as I’m a wannabe G and like abuse and punishment

  16. brickson98

    RX-8 or Neon. Hands down.

If I “accidentally” run over my running sawzall and it “happens” to cut the mufflers off the RX-8, is that still a modification?

Gimme the brap, brap, brap, brap, brap.

  17. The G Wagon. That said, the S-Cargo would be really practical and I’m mainly just running around town. The Leaf is tempting, but charging would be a pain.

G500. Solid motor, running gear & indestructible trans. The biggest issue that gen of G wagen suffer from is rust.

  19. Abe-early

Superduty if it’s a 7.3 diesel or a gasser, if not I’ll take the S-cargo. I love big trucks, but also have a weird obsession with oddball JDM stuff.

Nissan Leaf, unironically would just own one outside of this challenge. The older ones like that have range issues, but still. Easily the most reliable and practical vehicle on this list.

  21. CookingDrunk

G500 easily. Driver’s power seat is just bad wiring. Service light can be dismissed after the service at an independent Benz mechanic who just happens to be a friend of mine. I live in the village so AWD and clearance are a must. It snows in winter, so you know.

  22. Responsible-Ebb-8820

The fun uncle in me says the Bosozoku Cressida, the responsible dad in me says the LEAF

  23. SkylineFTW97

The G500 or the Neon. Weird combo, I know.

The early G500s are really just a fancier ML500 underneath, the M113 and 722.6 are both known to be robust and easy to work on. I’ve worked on plenty and I have no qualms about doing so again.

The Neons are just really fun. I had a 1998 R/T 5 speed coupe and I miss it.

If mods were allowed, then I’d add the RX8 in and mod the oil injection system to burn from a separate 2 stroke oil tank. That would fix most of the reliability problems. Although I could just run premix as well, that’s not a modification.

Whatever the yellow car was, G Wagen or the Leaf.

The Leaf is probably the best one, little to no maintenance and the batteries are good for 10 years. Also you pay nothing for fuel since it’s electric. It’s not as exciting to drive as all the other cars on this list, let alone the other two I picked but it needs relatively little maintenance to keep running.

I could most likely do Uber or Lyft in one for a year and make as much money as it was worth to buy a Leaf in the first place.

  25. smokeybiker251

The neon is basic and dependable, the others could be fun but expensive to repair

  26. GoredonTheDestroyer

Either the S-Cargo because it looks adorable and I want one or the Leaf. The rules never stated I have to drive it all the time, and I live in an area where groceries are close by foot.

  27. ArtisticDegree3915

Neon. Then a toss up between the RX8 and S Cargo.

I do delivery. So gas mileage is going to matter. Maybe that Neon could last a year for me.

Not the Leaf because I don’t really have a place near me to charge it.

  28. Tough call between the S-Cargo and the Neon, but the Neon will simply be a better car overall.
