The only thing missing now is the announced $40,000 Cybertruck.

    >*Tesla has officially opened up orders for its non-Foundation Series Cybertrucks, which are now available at a starting price of $79,990 USD–that’s the same starting price as a Model X.*

This thing is going to cannibalize Model X sales like crazy — as if they weren’t already in danger enough from the Model Y and the huge field of incoming competitors.

  3. The order page doesn’t show this trim, only the $100k – $120k trims.

However, scroll to the bottom of the order page and you’ll quickly discover why they’re offering a lower priced trim. Estimated delivery date is October – November for the $100k trim or October – December for the $120k trim… of 2024. If you order one of these $100k-$120k trims, you could get it delivered as soon as this month.

So much for 1-2 million reservations…

That means there’s no backlog for these trucks at these prices. They have a full ass factory of capacity for CT that’s barely been ramped… and they have no backlog. Their only choice is to offer lower priced trims in hopes that demand picks up and they can benefit from economies of scale. Even at $80k… or even $72,500 after federal credit… or even $70k after federal and state tax credits, that’s still an expensive ass ~~triangle on wheels~~ truck.

And no one buying these things should be kidding themselves. All the on lookers they’re trying to steal attention from or impress know exactly why they bought their CT. We all know they don’t work a job that requires a truck. We al know they just want to be noticed and to flaunt their wealth. I’m sure some are doing it to troll people, to spray Musk in their faces, knowing now that so many people can’t stand Musk after all the atrocious shit he’s said and done, or maybe simply that he’s gotten rich off the government dole.

On another note… I’ve been pointing this out for years… but I can’t be the only one whose noticed that Tesla has an interesting knack for hitting their expected vehicle numbers nearly right on the dot in quarterly sales reports. I think Q1 and Q2 were the first times I’d seen them miss by so much, but then Q3 they’re within 1000 units again?

Wouldn’t it be really interesting to know why Tesla no longer breaks out their regional sales and per model sales… choosing instead to report only two worldwide delivery numbers. One for model 3/Y, and one for S/X/Cybertruck. I mean that second grouping doesn’t even make any sense. They have 5 total models GLOBALLY, and they can’t break it out with more specificity? Either they’re inept, or they’re intentionally avoiding transparency.

Anyways, what I’m getting at is that since Tesla opened their Shanghai plant, they’ve nearly hit estimates every single quarter. Pretty interesting isn’t it? I’m not saying they’re lying (although it wouldn’t be the first time Musk has ~~lied~~… “puffed”), just they always seem to pull off some oddly accurate sales figures.

Of course, estimates can be revised. Their actual guidance for 2024 global sales, based on their 50% CAGR through 2030 claim, was up around 2.4 million vehicles. It’s looking pretty certain that they’re going to miss that by quite a bit, and will likely sell 1.8 – 1.9 million vehicles this year. Through Q3, their sales are still below 2023 over the same period by about 30k vehicles, and they only sold 1.81 million vehicles in 2023.

  4. Funny how they lower prices and people still complain that they aren’t low enough after saying they’d never lower them from $100k.

So it just qualifies for the Federal tax credit, which is nice, but when you get into this range, a lot of potential buyers probably have incomes over the qualifying limit anyhow.

A Ford Ranger version of this on the MY chassis (more or less) at the $50k price point would be a good seller.

That’s awsome. Can’t wait for the RWD version

Saw a wrapped cybertruck on highway and it looked like a military vehicle. Looks amazing from the front. I was impressed in person.

Anyone who’s driven or owns a Rivian and this have any input on which they like better? Or what features are better and/or worse on each?
