What is the rarest and possiblly obscure car you’ve seen in person?

My first and probably only 1988 peugeot 505 turbo wagon. Lady was making errands in it. Said she bought it in Miami in 1988, has only 88,000 miles and needs to take it to the next state over to a mechanic who works on vintage French cars. My mind was blown.

I briefly worked on a ’73 ferrari 365 gt4 2+2. Euro import, no idea on production and a bitch to parts hunt for.

Just this week i saw a Chrysler Lazer Convertible – and it was perfect. someone loved that thing.

  3. Lupine_Ranger

Bricklin SV-1 in safety orange. I was working retail and saw it roll by the front of the store, I stopped everything to go out there and see it. The old dude driving was so relieved someone knew what it was, and not “cool DeLorean”

Someone locally – small town WI – imported a Nissan Figaro. Don’t know if it’s particularly rare in general, but it’s certainly rare around here.

The cool end? Maserati MC12. Regular Car? Passport Optima

  6. Expert_Mad

1957 Chevrolet El Morocco. Saw it for sale at an estate for a cool 150k and since they only made 7-12 of them (production numbers hazy) actual thought it was undervalued

I’ve seen a few of the late 1990s Japanese Honda Accord wagons and Torneos being imported, but I’ve only ever seen one of the sedan Accord SiR non-Ts. Not the most obscure car I’ve seen, but certainly one of the rarer ones that’s not that sought after.

Taking a trip to New Orleans right now and saw a 00s Ford Thunderbird pull past us and then saw it parked a few minutes later.

There’s also an old dustbuster Oldsmobile Silhouette permanently parked and abandoned in the lot of a dollar tree not far from my house that I wish I could rescue.

Ha, back in 85′ I lived in Phoenix and the local rock radio station had a contest called ‘kiss a Yugo’. There were 10 contestants that had to keep their lips on the car until only one was left and they won a Yugo! Yippee! I remember driving by the competition and I stopped and checked out the car because I had never seen one. After looking it over, I looked at the contestants and said is this really worth it? One guy raised up and said, it’s a free car! Then the judge disqualified him. He cussed me all the way back to my Trans Am. Yugo, a very rare car in the USA.

We had this 505 in grey when I was 6. Loved it. Btw They had an off-road version of the 505 wagon which is super rare. Would love to own that.

I touched a Tucker once, and stood right next to another one at a different time. There is apparently a green one owned by a guy somewhat near me that gets driven regularly but I haven’t ever seen it.

I got the pleasure to see a Shelby CSX come through my drive through at work. Couldn’t believe it and had a great conversation with the owner until I got yelled at to get back to work.

I saw a Packard Eight in a pristine condition out in the wild the other day.

  15. 2-StrokeToro

Early ’90s Plymouth Colt, Peugeot 404, Yugo, and ’70s Ford Fiesta.

It once saw a Daewoo (I forget the model) in the U.S.

  17. RoseWould

’83 Hilux. Was being worked in after being rolled in Alaska.

I got to drive a genuine 1950’s built belly tank lakester. Flathead V8 with triple carbs and straight pipes, hardtail rear axle. Completely brutal.

  19. Easy_Combination_689

Not rare but a friend of mine in high school had a first gen Carolla with only 8k miles on it and pristine interior. His grandma bought it new when she retired and used it to get groceries and that’s it. We called it the Time Machine

  20. HarveyMushman72

My high school girlfriend had a lime green Opel Manta.

I’ve seen a couple Nissan Stagea’s around town recently (in Texas).

    And an old Checker Marathon

When I had my BMW 740i I would go to a shop for advice and also the guy was a customer of mine where I sold auto parts. At some point he was showing me around the shop and has a gold ‘70s Citroen SV that he owned. I still have yet to see it on the road though.

Also a lady down the street had a relative that owned a Peugeot 505 wagon like in your picture. Except it was a grey metallic. This was in the late 90s to early 2000s when I would see it.

When visiting for a summer in West Virginia an older cousin that was closer to my grandmothers age had a Sterling 827 in the dark red metallic color. Had the same kind of window tint that came on the ‘89 Accord SE-i that had a gold metallic sheen to it. This was in 2002 the last I saw the car.

  24. Impossible_Okra

    A well-maintained and damage-free Nissan Altima

  25. Extreme_Voice_9767

I saw a kia borrego not too long ago, also a nissan nx200 and subaru justy if you consider them rare

  26. anno1040

I saw a Suzuki Kizashi yesterday. Very rare in the U.K.

  27. Holiday_Memory_9165

Rolls Royce Silver Spur (iirc), Aston Martin DB6, Sunbeam Tiger which I got to drive, Audi R8, Yugo swapped with a turbo VW (1.6 I think), couple Lotus Elise, VW Thing, Jaguar XJS-C, Shelby GT 500 ( ’07 or’08). And probably a few more I can’t remember right now.

  28. Depressedmusclecar23

As an Australian, a ford Taurus

  29. AegisKaisar

Renault 17, most likely owned by someone who works at a church in my area because I always see it there when I pass by.

  30. I saw a purple Vector W8 being driven on the road once. It belonged to a local car dealership magnate and being one of only 22 ever made, I doubt I’ll see another.

  31. Aggravating_Plan_671

A Ford Mustang svt (not the turbo version). I would have bought it, but no keys to it. It’s in one of my neighbors’ backyards. It probably has flood damage now because of a flood due to the first hurricane this year.
