yes, can never go wrong with a 4.6 panther

  2. CrypticQuery

Yes. Bulletproof, comfy as can be, fits 10 of your friends with ease, easy to fix, large back seat, etc. Just thirsty.

  3. CabanaFred

Well it’s a little thirsty & has a big back seat (wink wink nudge nudge) but parts are fairly cheep & it will shrug off many minor bumps better than most

  4. dobber72

The short answer is yes, the long answer is yes, yes, absolutely yes.

It’s not the coolest car, but for a teenager it’s hard to go wrong. Reliable, comfortable, cheap to fix, tons of room to pack all your friends in the back for shenanigans. Only problem is gas mileage but all your friends should be pitching in for that anyways

  6. Grandemestizo

That’s an awesome car, I’m almost 30 and I want one.

  7. poopoomergency4

i’d much rather pay for gas than mechanical repairs, so yes

If you don’t want this much of funky and fancy thingies the Town Car had, you can get Mercury Grand Marquis. Still comfy and well equipped

  9. My first car in 2005 was a 1987 Lincoln Towncar with velour bench seats. Amazing first car. Drive it easy and everyone will ignore you because they’ll think you’re 82 years old.

Too much room for friends and group chaos mentality.

    Otherwise, fantastic.

Lincoln town car enthusiast chiming in, absolutely a good choice. Stylish, ridiculously reliable and easy to work on. The only car I’d trust to buy and immediately drive across the country without thinking about it.

  12. A 4.6 Panther platform vehicle is a bombproof, time tested design at this point. Parts are cheap, the few times you’ll need them. Easy to work on. Plenty of room for school shit and friends. Rides like a dream. Tons of aftermarket support if you want to get spicy. Comfy as shit. Everyone is mentioning that they’re “thirsty”, but I can tell you from experience if you drive like a sane person and don’t mash the gas every time the light turns green, they do decent. Set the cruise control and they pull upper 20s mpg. Considering how bulletproof they are mechanically, a lil extra money in the gas budget is a small price to pay to NOT be that kid paying a $700 mechanic bill every 4 months. This is an *excellent* choice for a first vehicle.

Yes, for the love of God. Buy this and have a blast in the closed down Kmart parking lot this winter. Just keep an eye out for 12.

  14. 2004 Lincoln town car signature series is my sexual Identity

  15. Simple_Anteater_5825

This reminds me of high school when a 16 year old kid from the base showed up in the parking lot driving a new to him 1955 black DeSoto Fireflite. Riding in it always felt like I needed to be wearing a hat

Absolutely, I had a 99 crown vic in college. Bought at 100k miles, I added another 30. My friend bought it from me and put another 150k+ delivering pizzas on it. Sold it slightly before the 300k mark when the transmission started to go.

  17. If your gas was cheaper, would you drive it further? Or would you go to the same places just as often?

  18. SteveTheBluesman

    Big, safe and stylin.’

    Easy to work on too.

  19. Hongadingalongus

I will say. This thing is a future classic. Really a classy car for a classy dude.

  20. Dragonykz

Panther body is a fantastic first car.
And when you get bored of old man-ing around, you can make em pretty quick for pretty cheap.
Easy to work on. cheap parts.
Just have a large gas budget ready.

Was my first choice back in 2004. Was a 94 tho, then a 96, then I moved onto the LS and finally a LSE. Most recent Lincoln purchase was a 2017 MKZ. The mirrors didn’t adjust to the rear wheels in reverse. They fell so far lol

Look at what happened to Jack Baruth in one and make your own decision. Risk is risk, whatever you are willing to take on is your own prerogative.

  23. ttgoodspeed

I’m 30 in 2024 and this is a good choice

  24. Electrical-Bacon-81

No, but only because new drivers usually crash their first car, this car is too good to crash. Really tho, this is a fantastic first, second, or third car. Comfortable, reliable, and tough as nails.

  25. It’s very safe and roomy. I drove a 97 Town Car from Junior year of High School through most of college.

  26. phantom695

Son drove a white one. He really liked it. So did I. He crashed it about 4 times in 18 months. Could not kill the thing until the last one. Solo spinout in the rain. Tow and go. no worse for the wear.

Sheared off both tires on one side after flying over a curb. $3500 at a Suspension shop and back on the road. no worse for the wear. rear-end a car on freeway. nothing there either. Very safe car. finally pulled out in front of someone and totaled their coralla. Drove it home.

The sight lines are terrible and that bumper sticks out far in the front. We donated it after the 4th accident. Time for a change.
