Nissan’s FIRST Plug-in Hybrid! 2025 NISSAN ROGUE HYBRID

Can you believe Nissan doesn’t have a single hybrid model in the U.S. right now? Well, that’s about to change in a big way!
Starting in 2025, Nissan will be launching their very first plug-in hybrid model here in the U.S., and it’s going to be in the form of the popular Rogue compact SUV.
Now, the new Rogue plug-in hybrid is going to share some serious DNA with the Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid. For those of you who don’t know, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Renault are all part of the same alliance, so there’s a lot of tech sharing going on here. What that means for us is a solid, proven platform that brings some serious hybrid power to the table.
Under the hood, we’re expecting a similar setup to the Outlander—so that’s a 2.4-liter gasoline engine paired with two electric motors. That combo delivers a beefy 248 horsepower. For comparison, the standard Rogue with its turbocharged three-cylinder engine has 201 horsepower, so you’re getting a major power boost with this hybrid version.
Nissan’s timing with this hybrid Rogue couldn’t be better. The compact SUV hybrid segment is heating up, and it’s crowded with some tough competitors. You’ve got plug-in hybrid versions of the Dodge Hornet, Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and of course, the ever-popular Toyota RAV4. But knowing Nissan, the Rogue plug-in hybrid will bring that extra something to stand out in this competitive lineup.
Personally, I’m excited to see how it performs compared to the others in real-world driving. Will it have that smooth electric boost that makes hybrids so fun to drive? Will it offer more bang for your buck? Only time will tell, but I’ll be first in line to test it out when it hits the streets.
Now, here’s something even cooler on the horizon. Nissan is planning to roll out their e-Power hybrid tech in the U.S. starting in 2026. For those of you unfamiliar with e-Power, it’s a pretty innovative system already found in Nissan’s global models. It uses a gasoline engine, but only as a generator to charge the battery. The wheels? They’re powered purely by electric motors. So, you’re still getting that EV driving experience, but without the need to plug in. Sounds like a great middle ground for those who aren’t quite ready to go full electric.
