Kia EV5 2025 review: Is this a game-changing new electric car that will trouble the Tesla Model Y?
The 2025 Kia EV5 is already shaping up as a game-changing fully electric vehicle in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment, which is currently dominated by the – you guessed it – Tesla Model Y. The new South Korean model is specifically looking to shake things up with a very, very keen starting price that’s sure to tempt would-be buyers of high-spec internal-combustion alternatives.
The entry-level EV5 Air Standard Range starts from $56,770 drive-away in Australia, undercutting the equivalent Model Y by about $4000. It’s a front-wheel-drive with outputs of 160kW/310Nm and a driving range of 400km. The Long Range version ups the latter to 555km, while the all-wheel-drive Earth and GT-Line grades up the grunt to 230kW/480Nm.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Andrew Chesterton gets behind the wheel of the new EV5 at its local media launch to find out how well it stacks up against its rivals in the real world. There’s a lot riding on this one for Kia!
