Because they’re cool. Nice view for back seat passengers.

That’s a “conversion van” where an aftermarket company up-fits a van from a stock offering by a manufacturer. The roof and the rear windows you are pointing to, are added to make more head space and visibility from the rear most sets or sometimes a bed. The interiors are also customized for comfort and convenience. There are many custom configurations from touring to wheelchair access, etc.

These are called “conversion-vans, and are based on full size vehicles not sold in those markets. In fact, I don’t believe they are made at all anymore. 🙁

  4. I don’t know, but I assume that TÜV sagt Nein.

Most conversion vans have a bench seat in the back that transforms into a bed. The big windows are for when you’re in bed you can still see out

Can’t have a proper Shaggin’ Wagon without a great big grotto window!

Those are also known as “stabin’ cabins”

Man we don’t even have those vans anymore. That was back in the good old days. Don’t remind us of what we’ve lost.
