    This is just the beginning. Unfortunately, it’s a perfect storm growing.

    Users “want” connected everything. They don’t really but retailers are pushing for it and users are absorbing it and saying “yeah, I _do_ want my car/washing-machine connected to my phone”. So it’s a self-feeding beast.

    Now, as the retailers have created this market, they’re feeding it with low-quality shit and this is the result.

    The problem will peak in 3-5 years time when the retailers get bored and stop issuing updates to apps.

    I was buying a washing machine and the salesman was intent on getting me to buy an “internet enabled machine”. I asked him to explain a real-life use-case where I need to connect to my washing remotely….. (and no, knowing when it’s done is not important.)
