Toyota is building its own factory in the US to supply its own EV. Don’t see what protectionism has to do with the delay.

Their EVs and tech for them suck.

They are discounting their one BEV because it sucks and is not competitive. Not against China, against everyone.

Seems the good news is at the bottom of the article. Nissan and Toyota is building their own batteries, and Toyota already bought other battery company

Every time there is a story about Toyota in this sub, so many people just repeat the same simplistic Toyota bashing comments. It’s remarkable how unsophisticated the perspectives in this sub can be. It’s very clear many of you aren’t paying attention to industry policy, supply chains and market dynamics in north america.

Almost every article I see from them is a CCP hit piece nowdays.

I don’t know if these timelines are going to be delayed but if Toyota is building better batteries for 2026, makes sense to delay BEVs until newer batteries have been commercialized.
That’s just one year of delay and lower losses on BEV sales.
Who wants a Toyota or Lexus BEV with the older batteries when new ones are coming in a few quarters?

Seems very close minded to think it’s for America. Look at what’s happening China
They need better economies of scale on batteries first
Toyota is stuck in the past. People buy them because they’re “safe” but their tech and ride quality are decades old.
