I signed a the Eula for Uber Eats, so I couldn’t speak ill of Uber even if they disemboweled me.

Did a lift the other day, paid $5 more for an electric vehicle ride. It didn’t take any longer. I think a lot of the Lyft/Uber drivers have figured out that an EV ups their profits.

This is a huge factor crushing availablity of CCS stations in big metro areas.

The typical urban Uber driver lives in the urban core for lifestyle, and are in an apartment or housemate-ing. They do NOT have home charging and can’t get it. Also, they usually don’t own the car but rent it using Uber’s special deals with rental agencies. The rental agencies give them Hobson’s Choice of vehicle under that deal, so they can’t like, choose Supercharger compatible cars. They must take an electric and usually get a CCS car.

So they become “inelastic demand” – they MUST DC fast charge, and if the queue is 3 hours long, there they must sit.

So when an ICE traveler lands at LAX and is talked into an EV by the rental car desk and says “why not, let’s give EVs a trial” well they end up here posting a horror story because of the huge Uber induced lines at every DCFC.

I see that Uber Green is often a few cents cheaper than UberX. Green doesn’t guarantee a BEV though, you can also get a hybrid.
