Someday this old girl is going to roll down the road again.
I have had it since -05 and it got put in storage some 10-15 years ago due to a failed road inspection and me not having the time to fix it straight away. A few years ago i went to check up on it an all! the paint on the hood had just…let go, and it just getting worse so it really needs to be taken down to bare metal and repainted.

What a cross road make it a show car or maintain the original
I would just paint the hood with tremclad rust paint, leave the rest.
Looks badass as is.
Don’t fuck with perfection sir
It is a 2 door. Appears to be an excellent candidate for full restore.
I can see it both ways. In one hand it definitely looks bad ass as she sits but on the other hand a beautiful lady like that deserves to be brought back to her original beauty. Either way you’re a lucky guy 🤙
I’m a fan of patina, but this one doesn’t look great as-is (imo). I would repaint.
Wow! two 1955 Olds posts in as many days! Making me proud as a fellow classic Olds owner!
common swedish barn find
That will buff out.
1955 oldsmobile holiday 88. Restored a couple of these with a friend 20 years back.
Want this !
Sell to me
At least a couple. Come to autozone, I’ll get ya a stack of 20
I can see rust in other places under the paint from the photo. What appears to be rust when I blow it up, over the passenger drip rail, lower apron, etc. just leave it until you’re ready to have the whole car taken down and done right.
Show me the firewall and under the hood and the door jams to see if it originally black and just painted over poorly.
Everyone’s opinion is different and valid, but this is not what I call “good patina”. It just looks worn out, and unevenly. I’d strip either 1) all the white or 2) everything and paint it. The amount you spend can be hundreds or thousands, up to you.
Not even. You can buff most of that out. Oil change and she’ll be practically mint.
I would fix the mechanical issues but that paint tells a story and these old cars are only original once.
If it ran, it would be fun to keep it this way for a while. Get your old black jeans on, white t-shirt and slick your hair. Maybe put a cassette player in the back seat with original Carl Perkins songs on it. Go up and down the main drag until you find a hamburger place with curb service. Yes, this is a cliche or stereotype – but I personally feel it would be fun. Especially with the right Betty.
This deserves better than a “quick fix”. Repaint the car in the colors as is.
i’d drive it as-is lmaooo
If you want to fix it—do it right. And it might be in your interest to make a few under the hood upgrades and swap the brake drums with disc or ABS.
Mmm, probably grab two, just to be sure.
Fix any rust areas, then clear coat it. It has character.
